Oh my gosh I am sooooooooooo nervous and excited about tomorrow!!!!!! A day in NYC will be fun though! They are flying me out first thing in the morning, then I get a few hours to myself (shopping yay ) before meeting them for a lunch interview and flying back here in the late afternoon. Then I am doing an overnight with the 6 week old starting at 9pm, am going to be bushed on Tuesday!!!

SuperBunny · 24/05/2009 18:25

Good Luck mananny. You'll be exhausted! Will keep everything crossed for you.

I like Trader Joes. They sell normal food at reasonable prices. No good for fresh fruit and veg but they sell a big box of Weetabix for $2.50. It's $6 in Whole Foods and $8 in my local shop As you can see, I have done my Weetabix research. DS eats lots of it!

Whole Foods isn't much loved here. They pretty much threatened a local chain and then bought them out when they came to town. They have some lovely things, but waaaaayy too expensive. I do LOVE TJ's, though. My kids obsess over finding Pirate Joe. And I agree they're not good for produce, but they are good for finding weird-ass produce that I can't find anywhere else, sometimes.

Total barbecue weather here. We had avocado chicken burgers with plantain "fries" and grilled asparagus last night. I'm making a coconut-mango bread pudding for DH's friend, as he's coming over tonight for a BBQ, and loves bread pudding. He brought some nasty store bought stuff last time, and I told him to leave it at home next time, and I would make it for him.

SuperBunny · 24/05/2009 19:05

Tell me about Pirate Joe.

I might have to make bread pudding now. Or bread and butter pudding. Stodge. Yum.

Oh I love bread pudding that coconut mango one sounds divine - recipe please?

dooneygirl · 24/05/2009 22:34

Mango coconut bread pudding. I can't say I like bread pudding at all, but I'll eat this one. If nothing else, make the sauce. The sauce is what makes the dish, I promise. Sometimes I just make that and eat it.

Pirate Joe is a monkey stuffed animal. If you find him hiding in the store, and your child tells the cashier, they ring the bell and announce that he's been found (my kids love this part as they love the attention) and then they can go to the treasure chest and pick out a "treat". Sometimes it is candy or cookies, but I like that it is fruit or something else, too. They move him every day, so it isn't like if you found him once, you know where to find him again.

mananny · 24/05/2009 22:39

I always wondered why the bell rang every now and then in Trader Joes! I'm going to make that sauce this week and eat it on coconut icecream, yummy thanks Dooney!

SuperBunny · 24/05/2009 23:04

Oh, I wondered about the bell too! I wonder if that is what the little stuffed dog we find in the store is for. DS finds it every week and I make him put it back because I thought some poor child must've lost it and might come back looking for it.

Bread pudding looks yum

we have a local chain called Busch's which is very like waitrose. i go to meijer (like tesco) about once a month for all the 'store cupbord' stuff, then busch's for fresh produce.

now that we're off, i've emptied the fridge for dh. he's going to go bachelor, and either eat cereal, take-out, or nothing for dinner each night! i did get him in some british baked beans as well.

will have to try out trader joe's sometime & see if dd can find a monkey (or something)

good luck mananny, hope the interview goes well.

Have a good trip, Kickass.

There's been bun fights galore on here recently. And I had someone follow me around then steal my name It's an odd place.

Cali, did you know that Pepsi now makes a "Throwback" version that has sugar and not corn syrup. Thought about you.

Earlybird · 25/05/2009 02:58

We have a Whole Foods that opened here last year. It is doing very well, as it is located in a part of the city where people are willing/able to pay more for organic food, the beautiful displays and convenient location.

I took a cooking class there last week. It lasted 2.5 hours, and we got a few glasses of lovely wine, and were served the food the chef had shown us how to make. It was a very enjoyable evening.

jabberwocky · 25/05/2009 03:10

Is that the one that used to be Wild Oats?

jabberwocky · 25/05/2009 03:11

Oh, and to date we are up in rainfall 600% this spring

SuperBunny · 25/05/2009 03:15

That's a lot of rain, Jabber.

Nice to see you, Earlybird.

Earlybird · 25/05/2009 04:45

jabber - Wild Oats is now Trader Joe's. Whole Foods is part of a new shopping area in Green Hills (where HG Hills grocery used to be). And yes....we've had more rain here too. But, we FINALLY had some sun earlier in the week - thank goodness.

Hi superbunny - good to 'see' you and everyone else! Real life has overtaken me a bit lately, and I haven't been around much. Will have to read most of this thread to catch up on what has been happening with all of you.

Dd is out of school for the summer on Thursday. Life is about to be very different for both of us!

mananny · 25/05/2009 21:34

Holy crap they offered me the job on the spot and I've accepted!!!!

jabberwocky · 25/05/2009 22:44

Congratulations!!!

Hurrah!

Well done Mananny. Am so happy for you

OMFG - flights at the end of June are $950+ EACH [sob]

OP posts:
mananny · 26/05/2009 17:10

Seriously SB go one way with Aer Lingus via Dublin, it breaks the journey up a little and flights are soooooo cheap! It's a third of the cost you've been looking at, so totally worth it even if it might be a little harder work.

SuperBunny · 26/05/2009 18:27

Well, I have no choice but to look into it, with those prices. But I don't know how I'll manage with a laptop, hand luggage, car seat, 4 suitcases & a 3 yr old. Crap!

OP posts:
mananny · 26/05/2009 18:46

Call the airline and explain your situation and see if they can have someone help with your luggage at least. They might offer a service to help? I wish you were on my flight, I'd totally love to help.
