Aus specific baby name question- please help!

Hi to All Aussie Mumsnetters!
I have a bit of a problem with a baby name choice and the opinions I am getting here (UK) seem to be very dependent on where the poster lives.
The focus of my confusion is the name Cameron.
I always thought of it as a traditional Scottish name, but apaprently it has suffered some damage due to Ms Diaz and is now regulalry given to girls and (in England at least) thought of as a bit chavvy (bogan).
Just wondering how it has faired in Aus?
Not too bothered about english opinions as we will be moving back to Sydney before DS has to contend with too many class issues, but just wondering if he would face the same issues in Sydney?
Any thoughts gratefully received.!

Not australian, but the only people I know with Camerons (two different families) here in SE london are solidly scottish, with scottish surnames.

Not bogan round here. And I know no girls called cameron either.

Is a good name IMO.

I'm an Aussie living in London. Don't know any Camerons here but know 3 in Sydney. All boys, 2 of them are under 5. Mostly tends to get shortened to Cam.

Not aware of any chav connotations in Oz with Cameron, I think it's a nice name.

Hi Bubbaluv, I'm in Oz and I'm not aware that it's particularly bogan. Try Troy, or Brayden to be be really bogan

Cameron is still pretty much a boys name over here in Aust, and has no bogan connotations. If you had a daughter and were considering Kahm'rohn, that would be another matter...

Lots of boys with Cameron here. Have not come across any girls. In fact friends of mine had a cameron about three years ago.

I know lots of Camerons. All typical 'middle class' families and not a bogan in sight. Never heard of any girls being called this either.

I have a British cousin recently emigrated to Oz with a son called Cameron - they haven't mentioned any issues.

Alhough on little Cam's kindy photos there were some really odd names. Similar to Kham'roun etc. And a few Braydens (also popular here in Singapore).

Solidly middle-class boy's name here in Sydney. Bogans are a bit more harmless than chavs but in the same vein. They like V8 racing, mullets and smoking.

Haven't heard it around the playground so it's one I tend to associate with men now in their 20s and 30s. It's not as distinctively generational as, say, Kevin, but Lachlan is certainly the Scottish-ish name of choice around my way. Can't throw a rock without hitting a Lachie or a Lachlan.

Not that you should be throwing rocks in playgrounds anyway.

I would have said boy's name, no connotations...BUT in the last week I met two girls under 1, one called Cameron, on called Camryn. So now I don't know.

Oh my God! I've just watched it closely and realised that Pegasus Ezekiel's mum got stopped outside our local supermarket!

I just need to contact Dakota's mum (and her friends) and ask their opinion on any names I'm considering. I think I should run them past Pegasus and Bentley's mums too. Any positive reactions would help me narrow down the field!

I showed it to DH last night and we were in fits of laughter that DD could go to school with young Pegasus, or indeed that we could end up as Pegasus's parents-in-law. Sebastian (also filmed outside our Westpac branch) would be absolutely fine, but I would struggle to keep a straight face if DD ever came home from school and announced Mum, I'm in love with a boy called Pegasus.

Better Pegasus than Maddison-with-two-ds, though.

Surely that Mum was just pulling his leg? No one could possibly really call their child Pegasus Ezekiel could they?

I am in Sydney with a 6yo,3yo and 9mo and can't recall having met any children called Cameron - though it certainly would be a boys name.
