Can you not just raise one eyebrow at them and tell them in your haughtiest voice that your child doesn't "do" processed food?

SuperBunny · 06/03/2009 02:28

Oh no, Jabber Hope he feels better in the morning.

Dooney, they already think I am a hippy and domestic goddess and I think they think I am quite judgey although I never judge allowed. I don't really care what other people's children eat, I just wish they weren't all competitive. It's as if they feel more popular if they have the best snacks. And then, they complain that all their snacks got eaten

SuperBunny · 06/03/2009 02:30

You know, cos anyone who doesn't use boxed cake mix is a hippy & domestic goddess

one of my neighbours told me 'how good' i was when i said dd & i cut out our biscuit shapes, she assumed i'd used 'roll out' whereas she'd been short f time & just cut rounds off a tube.

didn't dare put her right & say it was home made short bread. (we eat crappy other food as well, just not as much)

dooneygirl · 06/03/2009 02:38

Poor DS1. Hope he does better.

I had the nicest conversation with the mom whose house we were at today about how both of us are stuck with the "granola" label since we both cook a lot. It was actually loads of fun to talk to her. She's Finnish, and was surprised I'm aware of the fact that American cheese and chocolate aren't really food, and that I have a food scale.

that confused me, i kept 'flipping' the htread, but it looked the same top & bottom
jabber, hope your ds is better soon.

jabberwocky · 06/03/2009 18:14

thanks everyone, he seems much better today. I always get a bit freaked out over high fevers so am glad that seems to be over with.

SuperBunny · 07/03/2009 02:42

Good news, Jabber. High fevers are scary.

I'm working at the Chicago Flower show tomorrow I've been wanting to do some gardening for ages til I was actually in the garden today and stood with a rather surprised DS as gunshots rang out down the alley in which we had just been standing

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 07/03/2009 02:53

Not sure if Anorak is MNing but hope she is ok.

Where's mananny gone?

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 07/03/2009 03:15

I hope my arrangement with dnephew hasn't scared her away

SB - gunshots ???

kickassangel · 07/03/2009 03:25

yes, sb,tell us more

SuperBunny · 07/03/2009 04:01

Maybe she ran away with him, Jabber?

Nothing more to tell about gunshots - we hear them quite often. The end of my road and the surrounding blocks is well known gang territory - I've had to leave the park on more than 1 occasion when it became clear that the groups hanging around on the street corners and the kerb-crawling cars were up to no good. And 3 people on my block have had holes in their windows where bullets went through. Luck I'm on the 7th floor, eh? So, who's coming to visit?!

To be fair, I do feel safe here (I think not looking like the average gang member helps) and have never had any problems. I walk around the neighbourhood alone at night etc. It was just a bit disconcerting to be collecting leaves for compost from the pile in the alley one minute to jumping a mile at the sound of shots.

you've just reminded me of a weird thing that happened when i was a teen, getting a train. had stereo on VERY loud, heard a bit of a 'pop' noise, then realised this woman was freaking out. turned off sterao. woman was shouting 'it was a gun shot, we could all be dead, it was right by your head'
sure enough, right by MT head, was a perfect round circle. luckily, i had just been leaning forward to get something out of my bag!
think it was just an airgun,as no bullet found, but the guard made me move, in case the iwndow shattered. i was most put out, had got the desired FOUR seat & table to myself & was enjoying the privacy.

i made sure i didn't sit next to freaking out woman.

mananny · 07/03/2009 05:30

I am here and what arrangement have you made Jabber??? LOL.

Am a little the worse for wear after going out with friends tonight. A few too many Magners. Plus I have had 2 weeks from hell. Between the blown tire at speed, and getting the flu, and also having an insane amount of college homework to do, I don't know whether I'm on my ass or my elbow. On the plus side though I am doing a Psychology class at Harvard and on my first paper I got an A!!! An A from Harvard!!!! So I am ridiculously proud of myself.

How's everyone else doing? Looking forward to Spring?

kickassangel · 07/03/2009 15:14

well done on the a mananny, very impressive.

i think jabber had arranged for someone on mn to meet up with her nephew cos they were visiting near him? or something?

jabberwocky · 07/03/2009 15:19

Very impressive mananny

No other arrangements other than the one meet-up, lol.

SuperBunny · 07/03/2009 15:43

Woohoo! Well done Mananny! Fab news - I am very impressed.

Kickass, that was mannanny,

Thanks I am loving Psychology, in fact I am looking into the child psychology field as I didn't realize quite how interesting and fascinating it is!

Someone please chain me to my desk so I can do the 5 hours of statistics homework that I have been putting off all week!?! It's the first really warm (by warm I mean above freezing) and sunny day in ages but I have so much to do or I will fall behind and that's Not Good in statistics.

Alrighty, one more cup of coffee and I must get some work done.

jabberwocky · 07/03/2009 16:34

I had a really hard time with statistics. You are absolutely right about not falling behind. Not Good.

mananny · 07/03/2009 16:42

I like statistics but it is like a black hole, it sucks so many hours into it and I really am not a good numbers person so have to do all the friggin problems at least 3 times to understand them. I need a tutor to show me how to do it so then I will know, I am a visual learner rather than self-taught learner if you know what I mean?

OK this time I really am getting off MN and the interweb and going. Really I am.

kickassangel · 07/03/2009 20:23

so, statistically speaking, how many people struggle with statistics

mananny · 07/03/2009 20:24

P(people struggling with statistics)=1

jabberwocky · 07/03/2009 20:53

p value =

kickassangel · 07/03/2009 21:10

i'm guessing you two understood that
strangely, i was supposed to be good at maths when at school, took the exam early & everything. never understood a 'word' of it& made sure i forgot the lot asap
