Our place had those too. I had lunch today with someone with a Taiwanese wife, he was eating eels (which actually can be very nice) the reaction on our table was mixed to say the least!

The only problem with reading the children some of my favourite books is that I get very disappointed if they don't like them!

They eat toads

Is Dinner old enough to appreciate the Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch? I just remembered it today and want to get it for me Mothering Sunday.

I bet beef bile is in lots of things we don't know about and they probably taste really good.

Those fish mongers are incredible, aren't they?

On the subject of odd food, does anyone know what pork cracklings are? I wanted to make mofongo, and found a recipe (that ended up tasting like dirt), and then found that other ones contained pork cracklings. I'm thinking that I probably am not that keen on knowing what they are.

SuperBunny · 06/02/2009 02:41

OO, I will order it then Cali - thanks. He is a little foodie!

Pork crackling is the crispy skin, isn't it? I used to love it when I was a child and would scrape the fat off with my teeth before chewing on the skin, bristles and all. Makes me feel queasy just thinking about it now.

The pictures are wonderful! My mum keeps a list of books Dinner might like and orders a pile for him every now and then. I will have to add that to the list. Thanks

That's what I was afraid of.

Great foodie books!

jabberwocky · 06/02/2009 18:24

I haven't heard of cracklings in years. Very deep South kind of cooking.

What are you doing in Portland? I don't know why, but I'm always amazed when people visit Portland. (I live in a suburb to the SE of Portland)

So I finally met Jabbers nephew last night

He's really very nice and very funny!!!! I am embarassed to say I was a tad inebriated as my 2 friends and I had been drinking from earlier in the evening, so hopefully I didn't make a complete drunken ass out of myself. My old roomie ended up hanging out a little longer with him at the bar after I left.... am waiting to hear her verdict LOL.

jabberwocky · 07/02/2009 15:48

Finally!! Glad you had a good time

SuperBunny · 07/02/2009 19:19

Mananny! You came back AND with an update

Sounds like a good night to me. Hooray!

Powells I still have books I bought there.
