Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

Hello and thanks for the welcome. I've enjoyed reading about your Thanksgiving preparations . To answer your questions:

I'm going to be living in Midtown (2nd and 48th).

DH will probably travel up and down from DC on the train. One of his team is based in NYC, so he'll do a day a week in the NYC office and tag it on to a weekend.

I got my job in NYC first (but don't start until next year). There weren't any other jobs with our organisation in NYC coming up, but there was one in Washington. DH applied for it to show willing, not expecting to get it, on the basis that it would put him in line for a NYC job if one came up. But he got the Washington one, with an immediate start, so had to go. It's possible that a large proportion of DH's job will move up to NYC in the next couple of years, so he'll (I hope) be able to spend more time with us.

DS2, who is 7, will be going into 1st grade from his SE London primary school. I'm a bit worried that it will be too easy for him, but the school insist that it will be OK - do any of you have experience of that age?

SuperBunny · 26/11/2008 23:46

Hello Tangarine,

I taught KS2 in England and the moved to Grades 1 & 2 when I first came over here, so I have experience of that age. Work will depend a lot on the school. Is it private or public?

Sweet pots ready. Will prepare dough for rolls when I get of my arse find time. Not sure whether we should attempt the parade tomorrow. Seems a bit early. And cold.

tangarine · 27/11/2008 01:31

Hi Superbunny and thanks for your reply,

DS2 is going to be going to the UN school. They have "tested" him - he had to do a bit of maths and a comprehension which he said was "too easy". We have American friends whose son is 2 weeks younger and who attends a private school in DC. He seems to be doing what DS2 did in Y1 last year. DS2 is almost the oldest in his class and regularly complains of being "bored" now, so I'm concerned that if he's repeating work he will become even more so. But he will of course need to re-learn his spellings, and he will be starting French .

Mmm, sweet potatoes. DH is spending his first Thanksgiving with friends in Virginia.

dooneygirl · 27/11/2008 04:13

Rolls, soup, sweet potatoes and pies are done, and the turkey is brining as we speak. In-laws are here, and friends are coming tomorrow. And then Friday we shop. MIL wants to start at 4. I'm not seeing it happen.

alipiggie · 27/11/2008 04:26

So Turkey Day plan number got canceled thanks to Ex H's lover/woman whatever being sick. Great, happens everytime we plan a big occasion. So luckily I've got awesome friends who've stepped in to save us from no food in the house other than home made ice cream . So I think I'm planning to have a back up plan for Christmas too. Sigh. Suffering a bit with a sore throat myself, but refuse to have anti b's and fighting it with vitamins and hot toddy's.

So enough moaning. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE. Enjoy your family, friends. I know I've for sure got a load to be thankful for.

Oh, Ali. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised but for you and your boys. Thank goodness for friends, eh?

4am is a bit dedicated to the cause. I shall be sleeping!

I was woken up this morning by Dinner snuggling next to me, stroking my hair for ages. It was so lovely - he's never done it before and when I asked him about it later, he just said, "I just wanted to" I had straightened it and I think he likes how smooth it feels. When I leave it curly he likes to pull the ringlets and let them ping back up. Anyway, it was a perfect start to Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful day y'all. Enjoy the rellies, friends, food etc. And thanks for being here.

dooneygirl · 27/11/2008 05:16

That's so cute. He's such a little sweetie.

Sorry to hear about your plans, Ali. Actually, since you have a backup, maybe not so much?

4 am is stupid early, but I had this thought that there will be 3 of us here in the afternoon, and maybe I could even sneak in a nap.

dooneygirl · 27/11/2008 05:16

Actually as soon as I hit post, there was a commercial saying Macy's is open at 5. I'm so in now.

I don't know if any of you brined your turkey or not, but it was amazing here. We took it out of the roasting pan, and it just fell apart. Everyone thought it was wonderful.

What was actually wonderful was the men sent the women out of the kitchen, and they did ALL the dishes. That was the best.

We always eat around 2, and that way I only have to make one meal, and everyone just eats leftovers for dinner. We also have people that travel 2 hours to get here, so they can get home fairly early. I hope yours turns out as well, I'm telling you, I was soooo impressed.

Caitlin is thoroughly embarrassing me, as she is shamelessly flirting with DH's 41 year old friend.

SuperBunny · 28/11/2008 01:15

Sounds lovely Dooney. Ours was good too. We went to the parade downtown this morning. They have the huge inflatable balloons like they do in NYC but they were so tall, they kept getting stuck under the El tracks.

It's 7:15 and I am meant to be icing christmas cakes but may wait and do it over weekend with my sister.
