you sound pretty calm and organised yourself Ernest. Is this day 8 or day 7 of the countdown?

OP posts:
admylin · 02/06/2008 10:40

I know I am wondering about the calmness, it'll probably all burst out of me nearer the time. I'm concentrating on going to Houston in July and trying my best to relax and enjoy it - although I really don't want to go, I know it'll be too hot and the SIL's and BIL's will be hard work too.

Am going to start packing next week - half dc's toys and all winter stuff and most books etc so I haven't got anything to worry about when we get back from Texas. I will have 3 full days to get over jet lag then we move. Tell me anyone with experience, how bad will teh jet lag be? I've had it coming from the other side of the world time zones but never been in that direction.

ErnestTheBavarian · 02/06/2008 10:41

Hospital Sunday pm, baby whipped out Monday yikes

is it boiling everywher or is Munich sitting under a heat lamp?

admylin · 02/06/2008 10:43

Have you got ventilators or one of those portable air conditioner things? If not get one soon, they'll be sold out if it stays like this and you'll need one. Baumarkt or Mediamarkt have them.

SSSandy2 · 02/06/2008 11:16

I would need a day to get over the jet-lag but it doesn't throw me too much usually

OP posts:
admylin · 02/06/2008 11:20

That would be good if I get over it so quickly - all I want to have to do when I get back is wash and get dried all the holiday clothes before I disconnect the washing machine and pack the last few items. Actually I'm going to have to feed them all aren't I? S*d that - we will be having cereal and toast for 3 days. I will very cleverly pack all pans and cooking utensils at the bottom of loads of other boxes so I can't cook anyway!

admylin · 02/06/2008 11:23

By the way Bero, do you do the Steuererklärung by yourself? I've done one once years ago but h doesn't bother - however this year with the move and everything I think he should do it (for next year I think) as he could get some money back seeing as the Hochschule doesn't pay towards relocation expenses at all. Trouble is I don't know if I will know ho wto do it, is it straíght forward - answer questions and send in reciepts?

admylin · 02/06/2008 11:40

Also have just been reading the GEZ info sent by one of the removal firms I contacted and they say that if you don't have a TV but do have a computer with internet then you have to pay the full price, something like moderne empfangs geräte - not just the radio price. (something like 5 Euro for radio and 17 Euro for TV/computer and radio)

I was thinking of not taking the TV when we move but if I still have to pay because of the computer, then I might as well keep a TV.

SSSandy2 · 02/06/2008 11:41

it will be summer, you needn't cook. Bag of ready mixed salad, cold meat and some bread rolls and fruit or as you say cereal

OP posts:
admylin · 02/06/2008 11:45

Yes and h can go and get his curries at the nearby Indischimbiss!

admylin · 02/06/2008 11:55

SSSandy, just read your email , sorry I didn't see it last night. will answer soon.

Kindersurprise · 02/06/2008 23:42

Ernest
Wow, seems like the last time I was on here you were just pregnant. Have I been away so long?
Car insurance: we are with Bayern Versicherung for all our insurance. Not the cheapest but they are very good if there is a problem.

Admylin
Are you doing the packing yourself or do you have a company doing it?

Who asked about the Steuererklärung? Admylin? I used WISO Steuererklärung, it is really good, very easy to use. You pay around 30eu for it and it is pretty self-explanatory.

We were in Holland at the weekend, it was a bit cooler on the coast. I do miss the seaside sometimes. We had a lovely day, even if we did have a big argument on the way home. At least the kids were asleep so they did not hear us.

It is thundery again tonight, heavy rain. I hope it stops before morning as I don't have a car at the moment. Bloody TüV. The DCs are happy because they get to use their fancy umbrellas.

SSSandy2 · 03/06/2008 10:02

am actually quite looking forward to the thunderstorms here KS, could do with freshening the air up a bit. Quite oppressive.

OP posts:
finknottle · 03/06/2008 11:19

Ernest, do you know this?

Might be useful?

Kindersurprise · 03/06/2008 12:23

Well, we had enough thunder last night for everyone. It was very loud and scary. DD climbed into my bed at around 3am, which is unusual for her, she is normally quite fearless. DS sleeps like a log, I don't think that he would wake if a whole duffdada band came marching through.

A friend's little boy loves the Schützenfest brass bands and always shouts, "Hier kommt der Duffdada!" We went past a guy with a trumpet last week and he said, "Hallo, Duffdada-Man"

It is a bit cooler today, the sun is shining now though. I hope that it stays dry so that I don't get soaked again when I pick up DS from kita.

SSSandy2 · 03/06/2008 12:30

never heard Duffdada before. Is that a real word or something your dc made up?

OP posts:
Kindersurprise · 03/06/2008 12:56

It was DS's little friend who started talking about duffdada.

SSSandy2 · 03/06/2008 13:00

nice word. When dd was about 2 and we were on holiday in Spain, we were walking around the cobbled streets of central Cadiz and there'd be all the wild young men racing up and down on their mopeds which rattled and bumped their way along the cobbles and she'd say "uh oh here comes another tak-tak" and you'd have to flatten yourself against a wall - fast! We only ever call them tak-taks in our home now!

OP posts:
hupa · 03/06/2008 13:04

It´s cooler here today aswell. I thought I´d melt yesterday it was so hot. I stupidly bought flowers and then spent the afternoon in the searing heat planting them only for them to be flattened by a huge thunderstorm a few hours later.
I hope it´s cooler down in Bayern for you ernest - it can´t be much fun being heavily pregnant in this heat.

ErnestTheBavarian · 03/06/2008 14:11

It's a bit cooler here today too, just about bearable - I spent most of the last few days in the basement. Unfortunately, as it looked so grey this morning, sports day was cancelled, or rather postponed till Tuesday - by which point I'll be in hospital, so the boys will be disappointed I won't be able to come. Oh well.

Thanks for the link FN.

Ds3 is now poorly, so I guess it's good sports day was cancelled. He's sat on the tv snuggled in a blanket. Maybe I can create some order in this chaotic house then.

admylin · 03/06/2008 14:38

KS thankyou for that tip about WISO, I've heard of that and might get it as I think the 2008 steuererklärung would be worth it for us with the move and all the extra costs. I read they even take into account the double rent (we'll only have 1 month of that but still)

Too hot here, wanted to go into the shopping area to look at summer shoes for the dc this afternoon but no way am I going back out 'til after 6pm and then it won't be worth going as the shops will have been picked through!

It must be hot because my 2 are actually playing lego quietly together instead of fighting. Hope it lasts.

SSSandy2 · 03/06/2008 15:25

well I've promised we'd go out for an hour now to the shadiest playground we can find but I have to say I utterly do not feel like doing it.

Goodness Ernest you poor thing being 9 months pregnant in this heat. Definitely get a fan before they're all sold out. At least one.

I got an advert for Lidl today; on Thursday they have lots of British specialities on offer. Fish and Chips, steak pie, s&v crisps, caramel shortcake, scampi, shortbread, liquorice allsorts, cheddar, ribena...

SSSandy2 · 03/06/2008 22:20

They have ribena, really? Saw that flier and I had it mind to get a few of the steak pies. Thanks for reminding me.

Hadn't picked up on the caramel shortbread etc. You temptress!

OP posts:
finknottle · 04/06/2008 10:01

mmmm, real cheddar, thanks KS.
Wonder what the beans are like, when we visit my parents the children ask for beans on toast nearly every day. Kattus used to do them here but stopped.
