That is a deep hole if you put it like that. The kids should enjoy a bit of digging though

OP posts:
finknottle · 27/05/2008 13:34

Deep indeed.
Sigh.

SSSandy2 · 27/05/2008 13:37

doesn't sound too good finks. I don't think you sound at all lazy but then I'm comparing you to myself!

Actually I was reading all those venomous gloves off SAHM - WOHM threads the other day and hearing about how SAHM are parasitical lazy gits and bone idle and lose all initiative in life etc etc and wondered how everyone knew so much about my life!

Or is it the infamous Frühjahrsmüdigkeit?

OP posts:
finknottle · 27/05/2008 13:45

Just been really busy, weekends too, can't remember the last time I had a whole day off. My garden is sadly neglected and will now probably shrivel without water.
Plus not sleeping well lately. Suppose all the recent upheaval is to blame. Summer hols should sort me out, schools here break up on June 20th.
New school year starts August 4th, can you believe it?

Must go and help s2 with his sodding homework, that always cheers me up

SSSandy2 · 27/05/2008 13:46

Yes, think you could do with a good break finks. It has been a tough time. They're going back very early, aren't they? Still not long till the holidays.

OP posts:
taipo · 27/05/2008 14:30

Blimey finknottle, you don't sound at all lazy to me!

I'm not sleeping well atm either but I blame the weather. It's 30 degrees here today and incredibly muggy. We were warned that this part of Germany can be hot and humid and I should be used to it after Hong Kong where it was like this for 6 months of the year. At least we had air conditioning there though!

finknottle · 27/05/2008 14:38

Muggy here too, though I love the warm mornings and nights.

Where are you again taipo? Am "supervising" s2 writing an essay, it's v strenuous Dd is also at the kitchen table drawing and has counted down her remaining days in kindergarten, only 18

taipo · 27/05/2008 14:57

We're in BW, just south of Karlsruhe and right on the edge of the Black Forest.

Is your dd looking forward to starting school? Ds is very underwhelmed by the whole idea but then he's witnessed the homework battles I've had with dd

SSSandy2 · 27/05/2008 16:30

30 degrees is very warm taipo compared to here. Odd weather today, hot when the clouds pass then chilly then warm then chilly.

Not far at all really. I know your area quite well actually as dh is from Kaiserslautern and his sil and niece and nephew live in Neustadt which is lovely with all the vineyards surrounding it.

Ds loves numbers and letters and his particular obsession atm is lists. We read a Horrid Henry story last night where he makes a will and afterwards ds said 'I want to make a will'

You have reminded me that I wanted to get some tomato plants this year. I've probably left it too late now, haven't I?

I hope you get your standpipe disaster sorted out.

admylin · 28/05/2008 09:32

Blimey, finknottle - bad luck with the pipe but I do like your h's 'Don't worry, everything is fixable' atitude! You need a really long hose pipe attached to the bathroom tap now then?!

2 great big hunks have just been to look at our stuff to move so they could make a quote. I want this company - unless they all look as good, even gorgeous blue eyes, tanned with vests on and muscles every where (you know the type, even the neck has big muscles) wonder if dh noticed me drooling. He told me I had to get another company in and do the bargaining bit better apparantly I didn't handle it well and they would have gone down even more in price but I didn't let them - old scrooge. I've already got the best price down from 950 to 790 not bad really.

This afternoon we're going in the garden with new bike and ds is going to have the set task of trying to get the dynamo off his old bike and fix it onto his new one! What should I do with his old bike? Can't be bothered with the hassle of selling it or should I try? I've got so much to organize at the moment.

SSSandy2 · 28/05/2008 10:37

yes I agree finks' dh sounds lovely and calm. Mine would sigh and huff and make out I'd sunk the Titanic although underneath all his annoying ways he is a good guy.

Wondering what plan B could be finks, hope it can be fixed without too much hassle

Roving eye admylin? For hunks you cannot beat Norway. I am always trying to get dh to go there on holiday but it never works. He always complains the weather is crap there. Yes, but it is not the WEATHER I'm going for....

OP posts:
admylin · 28/05/2008 10:50

The only thing that I'm worried about is that this company - after I had phoned them - made a bid on my auction on MyHammer.de. They can't see your real name or anything on MyHammer so they didn't realize it was us. So I told them (to be fair and to save time) what they had bid for and they said OK. But then he said you don't need to bother doing the 'Auftrag erteilen' stuff on MyHammer because the winner of the auction pays a sum to MyHammer so he would save that. I just wonder what happens when I don't accept any of the offers on there? I hate things like that and I've read the AGB's and can't find anything.

You know I always wanted a big chunky dh - it was my plan, so if I ever put weight on I would still look smaller than my dh! Ended up with a tall skinny one so even if I starve myself I will never look petite next to him.

taipo · 28/05/2008 10:51

Norway eh?

790 euros sounds very reasonable for your move, admylin, especially if they look that good

SSSandy2 · 28/05/2008 10:58

no need to look petite though admylin, let's go for magnifique!

NOrway is the goods taipo. Perhaps we should hold an MN meet-up there. Now that's an idea. I'm tempted to leave admylin to organise it in fact. I am a bit in awe of her these days. A case of the more you do, the more you can do, admylin?

OP posts:
admylin · 28/05/2008 10:59

It really is reasonable when you think that the Package they offer for moves within Berlin are about 600 so they aren't earning that much more when you include the Km to Hannover and back.

It seems as if dh isn't even coming on the day we move - has to stay on at old job etc well I knew he wasn't moving at the same time as us but I thought he would atleast be coming on the day I leave Berlin. I have to move a week and a half earlier because of school starting on 25th of August and i need to get the dc settled. He'll be joining us on 29th of August to start his new job on 1st of September. I'm in a bad mood really, I just think a normal husband should tryto take his last days of holiday owed and help me on that day. I'll have to go ahead on the train with the dc and meet the lorry when it arrives so he'll have to be off that day or morning atleast. Can't just leave the removal men to it can I - or can I?

SSSandy2 · 28/05/2008 11:01

do you think you make life too easy for him admylin? Can't believe he is expecting you to do the move on your own

OP posts:
admylin · 28/05/2008 11:03

I am too soft - he even thinks I'm organizing the painting of old flat, well he can think again - I have erased those thoughts from my mind.

SSSandy2 · 28/05/2008 11:04

I think you should put your foot down

On some vulnerable place...

OP posts:
admylin · 28/05/2008 11:07

Dh had a science friend visiting last week or so ago and he was always very good at reminding dh how bloody good he has it with me looking after EVERYTHING so he can concentrate 100 % on his career. Luckily said scientist is coming to Berlin again in June so he will jog his memory abit again. He was telling dh all the chores and family stress he has to deal with on his days off and maybe that's why my h has been quite well behaved up to today and the news of me doin gthe move alone - grrr. (And deffinately no sex for the next 3 weeks unless he improves)

taipo · 28/05/2008 11:10

I agree with Sssandy about putting your foot down.

Mind you, I can't talk because dh did the same thing to me when we moved from England to Germany. He didn't want to them down in his last job or keep them waiting too long in the new one so he had less than one week between one finishing and the other starting. It meant that I had to go on ahead and receive the removal men in the new flat while he was still working in London.

admylin · 28/05/2008 11:15

OK, so how did it go? Was it a British company ? I've read some of the websites of these German companies and they do seem to suggest offerings of food and drink should be made. Extra stress for me although I suppose I can leave them to unload and go to the nearby Lidl and get a 6 pack of pepsi and some bread and cheese? Or some sort of burger or Wurst at an imbiss stand?

I don't have to help unload do I? This is my first move with real removals - all the other moves I had to carry and unload etc.
