We are considering moving to New York for 2-3 years for dh's job. I have mostly agreed but am now having a lot of second thoughts.

I know the city well, and know we could enjoy life there. But I'm not sure if I want to leave our families, all of whom our children are very close to. And I'm not sure I can face all the organisation either.

He doesn't need to work there but it would improve his career prospects. And he currently has to visit NY anyway for a week every month, which actually is quite hard for us all. So at least if we lived there he would be around all the time.

I am really torn. Please come and tell me your experiences.

Yes, I did mean Nigel. I shared an office with him. It was awful. He was the third person to die during my time there. (Don't think this had anything to do with me.) When did your DH move to EUMS? Am still wondering if I knew him? (I did OPS at last place).

I know Moorsel is in the opposite direction to you - I don't know why she schleps her kids all that way. I think she just preferred the school to the Gemeente school in the dorp itself or the very Catholic one.

Mrs S, you probably did know him, he was IMS until October 07, and he knew Nigel fairly well. I got a copy of Nigel's eulogy and asked the comp I taught at in Cornwall to put on the website as Nigel went to school there.

What are you if not tall? Did you know the Nurses?

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/02/2008 15:35

Thing is, I only really knew the IMS people that did OPS with me. I didn't know many others. I think I may have known the Nurses vaguely. Do you know the Turners and the Austens?

In response to the OP, we have moved with dh's job and lived in Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, UK, Cameroon and now Nairobi. I have never once regretted any of the moves, I have met some amazing people and seen some wonderful sights. My 3 dc have all adapted very easily, and thanks to fantastic communications we have been able to keep in touch with family and friends with no problems and have found the time we have spent with them on holiday to be 'quality' time.

Calif, I tried to change it and got an identity crisis - I missed my old self too much.
