I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

All we have here are pigeons and rats! I guess that is city life for you

I did see a wolf in Wyoming. Does that count?

jabberwocky · 07/10/2007 03:29

I think I read somewhere that there are like 39,000 different kinds of spiders and only 4 are poisonous? Something to that effect anyway.

Does that make you feel any better, earlybird?

OverRated · 07/10/2007 03:34

That certainly gives some perspective

How is everyone?

jabberwocky · 07/10/2007 03:37

Both kids are down and I should be cleaning the kitchen I keep thinking I'll get this managing with two kids thing down at some point! Hasn't happened yet, though

chocchipcookie · 07/10/2007 03:54

I'm just back from the UK and I am really missing British TV. We get BBC America on Direct TV but there's not much I like on it. Is there any other option?

OverRated · 07/10/2007 04:01

Netflix. They have tons of British TV programs & films. I LOVE it!

Am sure you'll work it out Jabberwocky. Who needs a clean kitchen anyway

chocchipcookie · 07/10/2007 12:03

I hadn't thought of that. I'm going to post another thread about a website called the telly.net and see if anyone has used that.

Hello all,

Just popping in to say Happy Thanksgiving to Hellish & to any other Canadian MNers who are lurking out there.

OverRated · 08/10/2007 02:19

Oooo, is it Thanksgiving in Canada? How odd!

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is evidently worse than Christmas for travel

Ds2's birthday falls on Thanksgiving this year. Should I get a turkey shaped cake? Seriously, what does one do as a child gets older and has a birthday right at Thanksgiving????

Hands & Knees, Califrau, that's all you need

Jabberwocky - they have Turkey tins at Hobby Lobby

Earlybird · 09/10/2007 05:27

Exterminator has been for the second time in a week today, and has resprayed. I even got him to spray around the outside of the house. Hopefully, all spider episodes will be over.

jabberwocky - i've never seen a turkey shaped cake tin. Pumpkin cake with icing?

Will anyone be decorating their houses for Halloween? I hadn't planned to (other than carving a pumpkin), but it's clear dd wants something more....ah, festive.

OverRated · 09/10/2007 05:33

Fingers crossed for no more creepy crawlies, Earlybird. I live in the 7th floor so will not be decorating for Halloween. I do think, if you live in a more appropriate place, you should have lights, flags & various inflatables & other garden ornaments for every occasion

Thanksgivingy cakes here www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/thanksgiving-cake.html

a Betty Crocker www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/recipe.aspx?recipeId=34935 you can't get much more American than a Betty Crocker Thanksgiving cake, can you?!

jabberwocky · 09/10/2007 05:42

Thanks for the links I was so hoping that I would get pg in time for a Halloween baby as that is much more fun, lol.

Speaking of, you simply must go all out on Halloween decorations, Earlybird. It's one of the top holidays over here. We get - and I'm totally serious - about 100 trick or treaters every year. I just love it, though. I dress up every year to answer the door. Dh and ds1 always do some kind of father and son themed costume. Last year they were young and old Marlon Brando (dh was Godfather, ds1 was from the Waterfront).

Earlybird · 09/10/2007 12:30

jabberwocky - so if holiday house decorating is obligatory, any top tips on where to get Halloween decorations? I know they're available most everywhere atm, but wonder which places typically have good quality items that won't break the bank?

Hobby Lobby is always a good bet for things like that. I've picked mine up at one place or another over the years.

Goodness Cali, that sounds worthy of an award! Maybe post a pic of said decorations in situ on your profile so we can admire??

Jabberwocky - where is a Hobby Lobby near us? Maybe you and I can have our long-awaited rendezvous there!
