I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

I can't believe you remember that, Jabberwocky. I remember being incredibly excited that there was actually another American in America on this site. I can't believe I've been on here since Colin was 9 mo old. At least you were smart and didn't have to name change when you had your 2nd.

I don't know what it is about your victory, Cali, but I've been meaning to congratulate you since yesterday, but somehow I keep forgetting to tell you that. I think you need to go back to your old name, because it confuses me.

jabberwocky · 27/08/2007 02:44

Yep, I was/am confused too

C&CM, I remember our first "talk" about both living in America. It was nice to know there was at least one other person in my approximate time zone

alipiggie · 27/08/2007 02:53

Yah to SanJose . Knew you could do it. Oh SB, hope DD is doing better now . EB - ugh been really hot here today nearly 100, but huge cool down (10degrees) this week which is good, maybe the Fall is on it's way. Already had first snow up in the Rockies.

We've survived the first week at Kindergarten with huge smiles and very happy ds1 thank goodness. Had a busy / good weekend: concert in the park, parties etc etc. So shall be retiring early to bed myself.

Have a great week everyone.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 27/08/2007 03:06

Glad to hear you had a lovely weekend.

We had a really fun one, too. We went to the Street of Dreams here. If you don't know what it is, it is a street of $1-3 million houses that are all brand new that you tour before people move in. (the tag line for this year was hilarious, it said "See how the other 0.05% lives) The houses were nice, but they all had the feeling of they ran out of ideas with what to do with all that room, and made odd small rooms and nooks here and there, or saw how many bathrooms they could put in one house.

We also went to 2 farmers markets and a big open air antique fair. I think I get so excited about doing stuff like that as a family, because we never did growing up, and I'm excited my kids get to be with their daddy as much as possible.

alipiggie · 27/08/2007 03:26

. My kind of house, not. Blimey. I love Farmers' Markets too, but the one here in Boulder is so busy the boys feel intimidated by it. Supposedly, weather permitting going to see Diana Krall at Red Rocks tomorrow. Should be fabulous. First night out since my birthday (June ) so I hope that it happens.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 27/08/2007 03:29

Wow. I'd love to go to something at Red Rocks sometime. A whole lot of coming your way from the state of Oregon right about now. I think it has been longer than my birthday (1st of May) since I've been out. A whole lot more of coming your way again.

alipiggie · 27/08/2007 04:16

I know I shouldn't knock it should I . Last night out was to see The Police too, who were awesome btw!!!! I think it's because I never get a break from the kids as a single mum that I crave a night out .

GreatGooglyMoogly · 27/08/2007 15:31

Don't know if they all do it but we go to K-mart for photos as they have Olan Mills in store (they haven't gone under in the US!). It isn't very expensive.

expatinscotland · 27/08/2007 15:33

Red Rocks rules. Saw some fab concerts there.

jabberwocky · 27/08/2007 15:54

I love Diana Krall! She was in Nashville a few years ago and we went. come to think of it, that was the last concert I've been to I've really got to get out more...

Cali - how was first day at school for ds2?

Are you thinking pedi at 8.30 Am? Not sure you'll find much luck with that unless you have a regular person who might come in early for you?

I'm glad you're back to Califrau. It makes me much happier.

mamama · 28/08/2007 04:28

Happy Birthday Caitlin (for tomorrow) - she's only 3 weeks older than my DS. I should get round to birthday party planning, I suppose. Hope you have a lovely day.

I might go and see Diana Krall in September, so I'll need to hear the review Ali - sounds fab, hope you enjoy it.

Off to look at Earlybird's thread...

Hi Mamama. Thanks. It was actually today. I think the time difference on this site when I posted last night made it look like it was tomorrow instead of today.

I didn't realize our little ones were so close in age. Hope you come up with a great party. It is tiring, having just had one for DS, and then DH's 40th is just over 2 weeks away. And then 2 weeks after that is our anniversary, which we will be celebrating in Rhode Island whilst being jet lagged.

mamama · 28/08/2007 04:44

Oh the time difference always confuses me! Glad you had a good day. Did you have a cake? I have to make a Thomas the Tank Engine one & I have no idea where to start!

You certainly have a lot of celebrations going on. Enjoy them all. And the well-deserved rest in Rhode Island!

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 28/08/2007 04:47

I don't do home-made cakes, unfortunately. I cook and bake really well, but decorating is another story. DS had a Spiderman cake, and Caitlin had a Dora cake. Hers wasn't as big as Colin's was last week because everyone came up for his, but didn't want to turn around and come back again later. She's really cute, we've been practicing that I ask her how old she is and then she says two, but today I'd ask her and she'd say 5 and start laughing.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 29/08/2007 04:21

Okay, I'm bumping this one up, because all those Aussies have put their threads above ours. Today my ramble is about our day. We had a goodbye to summer thing and the kids and I just played. We went to Bob's Red Mill (anyone heard of that?) for 2nd breakfast. Bob himself was there. He's been there before, and Colin is just infatuated with him. Colin started freaking out and pointing and saying that Bob was his friend. Fortunately Bob is a very nice man and talked to Colin for a bit.

We went to the children's museum too, and had a great time. They had story time, and I could not believe how terrible pretty much all the kids were. There was this poor woman from England of all places leading it, and the kids were so out of control. Most of the parents ended up leaving far before it was over. The kids were loud, running around out of control and almost all of the parents did nothing. When we got up, we saw that the mats they had the kids sit on were just thrown everywhere, and there was a big potted plant that I'd say almost a quarter of the dirt had been thrown out of and was all over the ground, and the parents didn't do anything and just left it. I was embarrassed at how I'd say all but 2 of the other kids were acting, and how the moms didn't do a thing about it.

alipiggie · 29/08/2007 04:31

Shall help with the bump shall I. Well I'm a legal alien with a social security number now and my very very own bank account . Feel like a little kid in a sweet shop such a wonderful feeling.

Went to Red Rocks last night and saw Diana Krall and Chris Botti - amazing. Sat in a rain storm but somehow it all added to the amazing atmosphere.

Already involved at DS1's new school on the School Improvement Team (co=opted on by a friend).

Finally had about 30+ realtors plod through my home today. Fingers crossed we might be able to sell it now. I live in hope even if the stock market keeps crashing .

Life's reasonably good, just wish I didn't feel that going to work was depriving DS2 . He's not very happy at the moment.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 29/08/2007 05:07

Congratulations you legal alien, you.

Glad the concert was amazing.

I hate, hate, hate the realty tour. We managed to escape it last time because our house sold so quickly. Hope the housing market gets better for you and for us, because we're losing money a bunch in the market these past few weeks.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 29/08/2007 05:08

I hit post too quickly. I meant to say poor little DS2. 4 is such a hard age, isn't it?
