Hi all. Used to be a regular on MN when I lived in London but since moving back to NZ have found it harder to make the connections due to all the brits being asleep when us down under are online! So if anyone is keen to start a thread for those of us in this predicament please reply! My DD has just turned 5 and started school last week (scary). Have just found out I'm expecting number 2 - due roughly Xmas day...

buzzybee · 07/12/2007 06:42

Yes well I just told her to plan whatever she'd feel like eating...she also asked me what DD likes which threw me a bit as I thought she knew her GrandD's preferences fairly well by now!

Must admit I do feel sorry for DD, this year may not be much fun for her. Big part of my reason for hoping LO comes early so that I am (hopefully) feeling up to trying to make Xmas day a bit more fun for DD. Sadly her cousins have moved to London this year and will be greatly missed at Xmas as well. Fingers crossed the weather's at least nice!

What! You're not going rise from your delivery bed to cook a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings?? Very slack IMO

Seriously, I'm sure your dd will remember this as the Christmas of her new sister - I doubt if anything could make it more exciting than that.

Sending labour-in-good-time-for-Christmas vibes to you and Shells...

Anna, hope you're well (as you can be) and enjoying little Amelia.

Admylin - any news on the interview?

buzzybee · 07/12/2007 06:55

That's what I'm banking on Welliemum (assuming she HAS actually come by then!) - the amount of love and kisses she's lavishing on my tummy right now I'm getting a bit worried she'll smother baby!! [not really, she's plenty old enough to understand ]

OP posts:
welliemum · 07/12/2007 07:04

Aaaaah, that's really sweet!

AnnainNZ · 10/12/2007 23:43

Shells, any sign of that baby yet?

Buzzy, are the last couple of weeks of pg going OK? I remember my hips started seizing up right at the end and I was hobbling around like a little old lady!

Dh took Amelia when she woke up this morning and went off to do some Skype-ing to the UK with her. I went back to sleep till 9.30! Luxury!

Shells · 11/12/2007 05:50

I've had my 'show' today. Finally! I'm 5 days overdue and very very fed up and sore. However I know it means nothing and could still be days away. Am booked in for induction on Monday, so it would just be great to get this baby out before then. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

welliemum · 11/12/2007 07:36

How exciting, Shells!!

Have fingers crossed it all happens soon. I bet you won't need that induction - plenty of time between now and Monday.

You'll be glad to shed a bit of weight in this heat! Not to mention meeting your baby...

buzzybee · 11/12/2007 07:57

Hooray! Come on baby Shells (pippi?!)

Anna, I'm OK - after having a quiet week last week offered to help out on an urgent project at work this week so will be busy right up to midday Friday when we have our group Xmas lunch! So now hoping she might come this weekend (with Shells maybe!!)

Too hot to sleep properly though...

Good luck Shells and Buzzy! reckon it'll all kick off when it's cooled down a bit - that's what happened with me.

31 here today or something and we are way, way too hot. It's still 26 or something now, at 11pm

gawd if I'd wanted this kind of weather I'd have moved to Oz

buzzybee · 11/12/2007 19:26

Hmmm MrsJC, must consult the metservice website!!!
Managed to sleep a bit better last night - fingers crossed for you today Shells!
Right better get off to work...

hi everyone, well i'm having contractions about every 10 mins. getting slowly more intense. was hoping it would go a bit quicker than this. midwife wants me to stay home until I'm 5 mins apart or less, which is fine as we're quite close to hospital. anyone got any handy hints on how to speed things up?

welliemum · 12/12/2007 02:08

Gosh!

Walking around worked for me. With dd1 I went out (with DH) and fed the chickens, ducks and geese. Assuming you don't keep poultry, can you walk around the house or garden?

Good luck!

AnnainNZ · 12/12/2007 02:43

Staying upright and active is meant to help isn't it.

I lilke the idea of poultry-feeding as a labour aid! Maybe they could have poultry sections in labour wards.

Good luck Shells! Keep posting if you can (because obviously you have nothing better to do, like, oh, give birth)

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 12/12/2007 03:19

good luck Shells!

keep walking and walking

welliemum · 12/12/2007 18:29

Thinking of you, Shells!

buzzybee · 12/12/2007 20:45

Shells had baby girl at 8.45pm last night! Given that she emailed me at 5.10pm from home that's pretty impressive

OP posts:
welliemum · 12/12/2007 21:18

FABULOUS!

V. impressed with the emailing too!

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 12/12/2007 21:42

gosh that really is pretty impressive
Well done Shells!

AnnainNZ · 13/12/2007 00:12

Many congratulations Shells.

Any details on name/weight/etc?

Shells · 13/12/2007 01:05

Hi there friends, i'm back home (without my $100!) with my baby girl. Roisin Eleanor Murphy, to be known as Rosie. After a long slow day, things went horribly quickly and I nearly thought I was going to have her in the corridor of the hospital! Barely had time to get my shoes off and she was coming. All pretty intense and painful and no time to consider menu of pain relief etc. But at least it was over quickly.Had a sleepless night on the ward, so decided to come home this morning. Feel pretty shell shocked, but she's feeding well and all her brothers are excited. And all is well. Thanks for all your nice thoughts. Will keep you posted. Lots of love.

welliemum · 13/12/2007 01:27

I felt quite breathless reading that!

And you managed fine without any chickens at all

Lovely names, and I look forward to meeting her someday soon!

Hope you can get a bit of rest, and if there's anything I can do to help - just shout.

AnnainNZ · 13/12/2007 06:21

Wow, all sounds very speedy! Hope you're recovering well.

Beautiful beautiful names - both on my shortlist! Roisin is SO pretty. I really like Eleanor too...hmmm, think I'm getting broody...

buzzybee · 13/12/2007 07:32

Yay Shells and Rosie!!
Were you in one of those awful 4 bedded rooms in the PN ward? And to think you did so well to avoid having the worst part of labour through the night...oh well seems whichever way it happens you don't get much sleep
MW just left and she thinks a little more engaged (3/5?) which is good. Some protein but I'm inclined to take that as a good sign - maybe a show on the way?!! BP good and no swelling so not worried.

If it wasn't for them wanting LO to be seen by a paedeatrician after she's born I could almost be going back to plan A homebirth...

Anyway feeling quite relaxed now. Half day tomorrow, xmas lunch with my colleagues then just sitting around at home waiting! MW booked again for next Thur but she seems convinced I won't last that long

OP posts:
AnnainNZ · 19/12/2007 05:06

All very quiet - must be the heat. I am dressing Amelia in just a singlet at the moment, it's just so humid. She has had a monster growth spurt, 4.2 kg to 5.0 in just over a week - I still work in the old money - that's 9lb4 to 11lb!

Best thing is I'm really starting to enjoy her - i've been trying to but the sense of loss and grief was too much, I was just on autopilot - changing her and feeding her and thinking she was a lovely baby but not really being able to enjoy her iyswim. Anyway, last week I was lying on the bed with her and I smiled at her and she absolutely beamed at me - her first "proper" smile I think. Since then I just feel I've turned a corner and I am feeling a lot more... i don't know what, I'm just feeling a lot more!

Buzzy, no twinges yet?

Shells, hope you're not too sleep-deprived

buzzybee · 19/12/2007 07:26

Anna, I'm not surprised. I think many mums feel like that anyway with lack of sleep etc and you've had to cope with so much more. Now that she's starting to interact hopefully you'll feel a much stronger connection.

Nothing yet here sad to say! Starting to get myself psyched up for her to arrive Xmas Day...at least that would be quite "special" as opposed to say Boxing Day. Anyway whatever will be - have booked in with an acupuncturist for my due day (Friday) in the hope of a little non-chemical induction assistance. Will keep you posted!!
