Arriving on Monday.. currently surfing from Wanaka NZ and could stay for ever here!

sunnydelight · 17/01/2007 21:02

I was wondering what had happened to you!!! Goody, now I can pick your brains DH is in the middle of the interview process for a job in Southern Sydney and we're a bit thrown as we had our hearts set on the North Shore (proposed transfer with DH's job has gone tits up which isn't a problem as there is a lot of work out there and it's just a matter of waiting for our visa) but it's silly to rent somewhere that will extend his commute. How do you find Sutherlandshire? (you had friends there if I remember correctly). Are you renting?, how are the schools? Hopefully will be joining you Easter time.

mogwai · 18/01/2007 11:23

in Hong Kong, arriving in Sydney tomorrow night!!

inoz · 19/01/2007 03:01

I live near Cessnock, 2 hours north of Sydney, but grew up in Sydney and lived in the UK for 3 years. I don't get on here that often anymore (4 kids under 6!!!!) but might be able to help anyone with info if they want it....

mogwai · 21/01/2007 11:01

ok I'm now in a very very hot Randwick, Sydney.

Been on the beach today. Now I remember why all this hassle seemed like a good idea!

tribeoffive · 21/01/2007 22:16

Hi guys glad to see some familiar names
Sunnyd Sorry to hear ur DH job went tits up glad he has something else on the go though.
We are really happy with where we are. Sydney 50mins on train, after rush hour 40mins by car. Sutherlandshire close to some great beaches the national park loads of great shopping malls.
ds starts school next week its refered to as 'the bush school' because its right next door to the national park
The schools were a great help with registering them gave me all the necessary forms to complete etc.
The girls have started a day nursery for 2 days a week and they are in their element and so am i
Yip we are renting got a great house with pool certainly cheaper this side than North
When I was looking at the maps of the suburbs it was quite easy to think certain subs were some distance away but I was amazed how close together they all are don't be put off by the maps!
If I can help in anyway just let me know.
sorry long message guys

moquai - I hear you were having brunch with bloss today (or would that be yesterday now!) - I'm so jealous. Hope to be joining you all soon. How are you settling in?

mogwai · 28/01/2007 03:36

Hi sunnyD

Robinpud and I had brunch with Bloss and her family this morning in the most beautiful house overlooking trees and birds.

As Bloss will testify, the mangoes are very good at this time of year!

mogwai · 28/01/2007 03:37

sorry I didn't answer your question. Settling in ok but haven't found anywhere to live. The rental market is a nightmare to say the least!

robinpud · 29/01/2007 11:40

We had such a lovely time - Bloss's house is fab and brunch was great.

The kids were just fine at school much to my surprise. I stayed up to the early hours hemming the school dress.. my god they wear them indecently short don't they? I also had vast amounts of stationery to label which was a nightmare. They look so sweet in their uniforms although I am struggling with having to send my son in white socks. The school is pretty anal about the uniform.
as for having to wear swimming hats for lessons.. I thought this was a laidback country.

Struggled with the heat yesterday bloss but today was great. We are going to take the kids to the Aquatic Park at the weekend for ds's birthday.

Had mango tonight; it was delish even tho' it was the WRONG kind R2D2 one.

Getting more up close and personal with the cockroaches here Mogwai if that makes you feel better.

Bloss how did your two get on at school?

robinpud · 31/01/2007 11:21

It's the end of the month and I am trashing my internet allowance updating the blog and so am treating myself to some mumsnet!

Any news on house front mogwai?

Just thought I'd say hello to youa ll. I am not a sydney mum yet, but will be. I am actually Australian , and live in London. We have been here well over 10 years, but after recent trip back home we have to decided to move back. We are going to take our time, no real rush. Thinking about going in the next couple of years. We want to do our house up and get best possible price for it. How is the housing market in Sydney, I know it went through the roof a while back, but is it stable now or still on the way up.?

mogwai · 02/02/2007 09:29

Hi BLoss and everyone else.

Re baby equipment, I do need a large-ish cot if you have one?

I've also been gorgeing on mango as you advised. I'm not quite so good at cutting it up yet but much better since you showed me how to do it! I used to work with a Ugandan doctor who brought neatly sliced mango to work for her lunch and I never thought to ask her where I was going wrong!

Cori - I'm not sure about the buyers market. The rental market in the city itself is very hit and miss. We've seen some very nasty properties. Bloss, you'll be relieved to know that we rejected the house in Bronte for $700 per week and we've accepted a really nice flat in Randwick for $400 ish. We're so unbelievably relieved! I can now concentrate on living in my beloved Australia without wasting another minute!

(Any news on jobs for you, BTW? Am looking forward to the Lake District already!)

robinpud · 02/02/2007 11:25

Well done Mogwai.. do you want help moving in if it's a school day and the kids are off my hands I will come and clean.. I am VERY good at cleaning!! Or I will play with your dd while you clean....let me know

Mango slicing .. well there's a saga. I asked the woman in the groces to explain and she ended up slicing one for me. sonce then I have butchered any number. It's an art form. I have figs, passionfruit, strawberries, watermelon.. you name it!

Yes bloss we need news.

Dh on his way home from watching the cricket.. he is their talisman.. they WON!!!!

Astrophe · 02/02/2007 12:41

Hey everyone - been lurking jealously. We have moved our probable going home date forward slightly (end of 2008), but its still a way away

Glad you who have moved recently are settling in well, and meeting up with each other.

Bloss, are you moving to the UK?
