Anyone know how long a container takes from Perth?

We're going back to the Uk, hurrah! So, the company my dh works for is paying for our container back, and flights.

Just wanted to know what people's experiences were of shipping a container the other way. It took about 10 weeks coming to Perth, which sounds ages.

We don't have a date to go back yet, but the company has to oblige, and it used to be 28 days to return on a 457 visa, but it's 90 days to find a new job, or go home. Luckily dh, wants to go home, as its left a bitter taste in his mouth with the way his company is treating him.

Dh was made redundant, so everything is happening so quickly. But, the guy dealing with it, was a prize prat, and hadn't a clue about dh's questions Hmm so it's all up in the air, as they don't know what they're doing.

But, we're making plans, and he's home on gardening leave to sort everything out.

Getvitcall in writing about the shipping as they don't have to pay for that.
Arriving at this end it only took eight weeks for all our shit to arrive

I believe its in his contract, that they pay for the return flights and container if they no longer need him. Its the first year that was stated that, should he leave, we'd have to pay fir container and flight costs.

It took our container about 8 weeks from Adelaide - its a lot quicker than getting there.

I can't get out of Perth quick enough either lol. Really pleased, as spoke to mum and dad on Skype and they look really well, and happy now we're coming home. Mum's already planned some babysitting, and sorting out toys.

What made you choose Brisbane giggly ? I've lived in Sydney and Melbourne and now Perth, I'm wondering whether I really have given it a fair go and should call it quits or whether I should try and move within Australia - not that that would be any less disruptive lets face it.
I hate not being able to travel, hate the lack of variety but I do love Perth's weather. Hmmm

Well, dh has just had it confirmed that his company are paying for the container back. I thought it strange, as they paid for a container out, that they wouldn't pay for one back.

So, they're sending us the info, and I think someone will come around and assess our crap wordly goods.

He's also getting redundancy for the previous years he did with the company in the Uk. So, we should be ok for money for a good while. He's been searching for work in the Uk, and I've been looking too to see what there is.

Really excited, but scared at the same time!!

Why does everyone hate Perth so much??? I understand being homesick, but actually hating Perth...?

It's where I was born, grew up, and live now. It's my home. I know it has it's faults, but I love it.

Notafoodbaby, I love Perth, moved here six months ago and plan to stay. Bring on the summer. :)

My container to Perth took eight weeks, so I guess it takes approx the same time back.

I think in twenty years time Perth might he fantastic if they spend all the money they've made wisely on infrastructure and invest in keepingvthecyoung people entertained, educated and employed.
I'm just not sure I can face the twenty years it'll take though.
Dickhead is planning to stay which suits me, the kids will have the best of both worlds.

long Just one thing to check is if you're going to definitely get your own container or a shared one. If shared, sometimes you have to wait for whoever is sharing to put their stuff in it, so there can be a delay.

We had a whole container last time. I believe they'll be nice enough to give us a whole one again. We'd never get all our stuff in half a container. Although we will be selling, ditching and donating.

Mosman, we have spent more time in previous years in Brisbane and the surrounding areas and like the choice between the beach and the hinterland the Perth "hills" just don't cut it and I want the affordability of travel within/out of Australia.

It's not that I hate Perth notafood, it's just a bit to suburban for me to much of the same from north to south with a little variety in between , you could land in one suburb and it looks no different from any other.

I don't mind the fluctuations of the east weather as opposed to the way to hot to do anything apart from the beach of Perth.

Well bollocks!

They're not paying for the container. For some reason or another dh refused to accept the offer of another position within the company in the Uk, but wants his redundancy money. Ffs!

I reckon they would have paid for a container if they found him another position back home.

We've got the container guy coming tomorrow, and his dibs sees it fit to go off fishing leaving me to it. I've had a word, grrr!!

Would it make sense for him to accept the UK position?- I'd have thought so, as at least it buys you some breathing space. Make him crawl back to them.

I don't know why he went for the money? I think he's being his usual greedy so and so self.
I do think that if they found him a job in the Uk, he would have just slotted in. It could be as he doesn't like the hours. And wants to spend time with the girls. But, change jobs.

And to think I gave up my lovely job for this.

Cottesloe's too pretty to spoil.

The cost of the container vs the payout and no job in uk???

I would have taken the job, got the paid container. Then he could have started job hunting once back in the uk and given notice.

Yeah, mine too. But that would also depend on if there was actually a job at the other end, as they couldn't guarantee finding one.

I've got the removals firm coming in minute. Prepare formy jaw to drop on the ground.

He's been and gone. He was saying he has a contract with my dh's company. And dh is trying to negotiate with the company. I don't think he's going to go quietly, which is typically him Hmm with his pushy attitude.
