Are DH and your mum being helpful? When does your mum stay until? Have you managed to sleep?

AngryBeaver · 15/07/2012 10:44

dh is at work. And is being...well,a man about it (emotionally). Tells me he loves me a lot. Did the ironing and let me have a lie in. Has moments of sadness, deep sighs, but then gets on with his day.
Mum is going home in a few days.
I sleep from maybe,1 til 4.
Just as Im drifting off again about 6.30,the kids wake up and want to get into bed

I imagine my DH would be the same. I suppose everyone wants you to be happier but no one knows how to make that happen. Time I should imagine is the only way.

AngryBeaver · 15/07/2012 11:14

I don't blame him for it. He can't possibly imagine how bad this hurts

Could you ask your mum to stay a bit longer AB? She might not want to offer in case you want her to go. You need to lean on those who love you right now.

jusabout- that is great news. Being warm is a big deal. I've had flu and I'm wondering if lack of light the last few weeks has given me seasonal affective disorder. Either that or I'm allergic to the cold/work.

I am so very sorry that you had to say goodbye to your little girl, AB xx

Being warm is a HUGE deal. I hate the whole "harden up" mentality with regard to basic warmth.

AB come here to talk to us all about anything you need to as much as you need to. I thought about you all weekend - especially when the DC were trying my patience cooped up on a wet weekend x

lollystix · 16/07/2012 05:33

Dh told me today Scotland has had 1.5 hours sunlight July to date (yes thats an hour and a half!). Auckland has had 29 hours. But today was a dreich day and feels much like home except for being warmer.

we're just cold and I am thinking there is this kind of dampness lingering about. I have about 10 damp towels floating around the bathroom that I don't quite know what to do with.

Funny what you said about the first winter being a novelty and then it not being so funny next time around. This is still a bit novel to me but tbh I am getting a bit sick of being really cold especially in the morning.

Glad you got your HP though. How are the kids? DS3 and his leg?

I'm also very jealous of the heatpump. Even my winter-weight Ikea duvet isn't always up to the job (I don't know why - it got a lot colder in Belgium and we never had heating on in our bedroom, and it was fine then)

As of tomorrow I am officially a student again. I'll be sitting in a stats101 lecture with all the 18 year olds Grin

shelscrape · 16/07/2012 10:29

Good luck for tomorrow vvviola!

Also very jealous of the heatpump, but electric blankets are our saviour at the moment as it means beds don't feel damp and cold. I think it feels colder than it really is because of the damp, it's very hard to dry towels and stuff out and I am cursing DH's no tumble dry clothes

anyhow, I have survived another week at work and my admission to the bar - the firm were really nice and put on a huge buffet and brought the squeaky drinks trolley out in the afternoon with lots of chilled fizz - no idea how I managed to get any work done that day.

WhatSheSaid · 16/07/2012 19:14

2 duvets ( in separate covers) = very warm at night. Even with not very flash duvets, one of ours is a Briscoes cheapy, it makes a huge difference.

Damp house - dehumidifier if you have one. Open windows in middle of day (if at home in day) even if cold/rainy, it airs the house out and helps a lot with damp. That DampRid stuff also helps.

House cold in morning - get a heater with a timer and set it to come on an hour before you get up. Unfortunately expensive to do for several rooms, we just do it for main living area.

I don't know if you get depressed by the winter after years of it, I think to an extent you adjust. Though of course no one should be in properly cold, damp houses.

justabout how was the first night with the heat pump?

thelittlestkiwi · 17/07/2012 01:04

I bought all of DD's bedding from M and S international delivery a few weeks ago. Kid's duvets were 15 GBP I think and the cover sets about the same. As long as you stay under about 110 GBP including the 15 GBP delivery you don't pay duty. They are so much nicer than I could have gotten here for the same price.

Damp towels are always an issue for us too Lolly. I've been thinking about getting one of those air driers that blow air out the rails. Or just a drier.

Good luck with the study V. OH teaches a lot of students and he really rates them.

Oh no justabout! You poor thing. And poor DS2. Hope he feels better soon. (will it affect his start date at school do you think?)

Give me a shout if there's anything I can do to make life easier...
