Oh poor you Justa. You must feel rubbish. I too am stuck at home with sick ones. Just a nasty bug. DS2 has had it since Friday, DS1 since Sunday and now DP seems to have it. I want my peace and quiet back!

thelittlestkiwi · 18/07/2012 00:01

Justabout- hope you and DS are okay. DD is a tiny 3 year old and I know how violent she can be when having a tantrum so older/bigger kids must be very hard to manage.

Being stuck in with sick kids is horrid. DD and I had flu last week and I'm still struggling to get back to normal.

WhatSheSaid · 18/07/2012 05:26

I've just been out in the garden, on this gorgeous sunny day and there is a daffodil nearly out. It must be nearly spring!

lollystix · 18/07/2012 06:39

At conference today and glaring sun when standing outside - almost blinded but my washing may be dry.

6.5 weeks till official start of spring but it's definitely getting lighter in the evenings!

4.5 weeks till I go to Vanuatu. I cannot wait.

xMinerva · 18/07/2012 14:22

Hi.

Can anyone give me some info please.

Dp has lodged his visa application for NZ and it has been passed onto a medical assessor due to a couple of things that popped up in the medical exam.

If you had your applications passed onto a medical assessor how long a wait did it add onto the time waiting for your visa? Dp is really worried about them rejecting his application now but the couple of things that where flagged up aren't that bad, I don't think. (high cholesterol which he's trying to sort out with diet and exercise and High gamma gt levels which could, but not definitely, be a side effect of his life long epilepsy medication)

How strict are they when it comes to the medical side of things? Did any of you have problems with your medicals?

xMinerva · 18/07/2012 14:23

And I'll bump this again later when you are more likely to be awake.

WhatSheSaid · 19/07/2012 03:20

Hi Minerva I'm afraid I don't have any experience of problems with medicals, I suppose it depends how serious an issue they think it is.

A friend of dh's did have to redo some tests when he applied for residency as his liver function tests were not in the normal range. He redid them a few weeks later (after a long no-booze period) and they were ok so no further problems.

Sibble · 19/07/2012 04:29

Hi No personal problems, I do know somebody whose daughter was found to have a heart murmur, she had to have further tests and medicals but a visa was approved. I think it is probably likely to boil down to what the potential long term cost will be and the ability to self fund???

thelittlestkiwi · 19/07/2012 06:55

I think it really varies on how serious the issue is and who you get dealing with your application. There are a few people who have been through the process on emigrate nz who could probably advise on the best way to supply the info etc.

shelscrape · 19/07/2012 11:46

Minerva - I got referred onto a medical assessor, but I expected it to happen as I have a hearing defect. In the end all they wanted from my surgeon was a report confirming that the issue would not prevent me from working in NZ and I would not be a burden to the NZ health service.

The immigration service were very very pendantic about getting these exact words. I can't really help you on what happen with your DP as clearly his issues were unexpected. In certain situations that case worker does have to refer the application onto the medical assessor who will look at the information themselves. If he medical assessor wants anything clarified or if they want more information they let the caseworker know who then tells your DP in turn. if you have to supply more medical information to INZ you will be given a time limit to do it in, they key I found was to keep the case worker up to date on what was happening and ask for time extensions if you need it. HTH

xMinerva · 19/07/2012 13:39

Thank-you all.

We kinda expected the high cholesterol as he doesn't eat to well (despite my efforts) but now he's actually been told to his face by a medical professional he's starting to do something about it.

Shelscrape Hopefully we're one step ahead then because dp managed to get a letter from his gp saying pretty much the same thing to lodge with the application.

It's all becoming so real. So close yet so far away and too bloody excited.

AB. I'm so sorry about your little girl. Sad and what a beautiful name you gave her. Hope you are taking care of yourself.

Can I join you? I've just found this thread

thinking of another move, we did Sydney for a while, now back in UK, but both of us just know it's not for us anymore

DH is an accountant/auditor, can anyone offer any hints as to our chances of getting 'into' NZ with this job? Shortages etc.

great thread, I am daydreaming already! Visited Auckland many yrs ago, loved it, so am very keen to know more

thelittlestkiwi · 19/07/2012 21:54

Welcome peppa! I know a few ex pats who work as accountants - mainly for the big companies like Deloitte etc so they must be used to employing people from the UK.

Can I ask why you left Sydney?

WhatSheSaid · 19/07/2012 22:57

I just did a quick google Peppa and This long term skill shortage list came up here which has auditors on, under the finance section.

I'm quite intrigued by the appendix after it, appendix 5, List of people associated with Robert Mugabe! Guess anyone on that list doesn't have a hope of getting in.

WhatSheSaid · 19/07/2012 22:58

That link brings up the wrong page sorry, you want to click on appendix 4 which is long term skilled shortage list.

thelittlestkiwi · 19/07/2012 23:53

Well it's good to know they have some standards. After they let Michael Barrymore in.

Changing the subject completely - has anybody been watching Corrie - poor Ashley, what's going to happen to Rita? Talk about cry over a stupid programme. As for tonight - Sally has to confront Kevin - can feel a glass of Chardy coming on....

WhatSheSaid · 20/07/2012 06:14

I love Corrie, I have quite often remarked to dh that if it wasn't on NZ tv I'm not sure I could have stayed here :). Even 18 months behind.

I know who dies and who lives though as I googled it ages ago. I can't wait for Sally to confront Kev, I'm sure there will be a slap or two in there.

The main rule in our house is that all children are in bed by 7.30. Because that's when Corrie starts.

xMinerva · 20/07/2012 08:47

What is NZ tv like?

We just cancelled most of our sky package to save money and Dp is all "Oh I suppose I'll have to get used of it for when we move to NZ and only have crap tv"

xMinerva · 20/07/2012 08:48

WhatSheSaid I don't even watch corrie and we still have that rule in our house. Grin

Loads of NZ tv is British and American programmes. We have Sky and I find quite a lot of stuff I like to watch on there.

Some nights virtually the entire line up of an channel's TV will be BBC stuff. I don't find the TV terrible but I've been here so long perhaps I've unconsciously lowered my expectations Grin.
