I lied to police

Over a year ago now my ex split up with me and it made me so angry that I told the police he beat me and strangled me. Before anyone says anything I KNOW it wasn't the right thing to do and I shouldn't have lied to them. He was charged and on tag for nearly a year before he pleaded guilty and said he just wanted it over with. He tried to kill himself because of all of it and now I just feel so bad about it and IDK what to do I obviously can't tell the police but how do I make it right without being arrested? I feel so awful about it now I just want to make it right.

You HAVE to go to the police he needs this wiping off his record , you are affecting his future work, relationships, parenting. You will get a telling off by the police and get a caution , yoy really should suffer the same punishment

Do it now. Go to the police station

Flora2899 · 29/08/2025 16:57

Jesus!!! I knew a man who was on the other side of this. He lost his job, his home and everything because his ex said he had hit her. He said to me that it was the other way about and she hit him, and then the girl in question confessed a few years later it was all a lie. I saw that man's life completely ruined by her actions.

Thank god in time He rebuilt it all. He married a brilliant person but his career and reputation were shattered and we lived in a small town

Maybe you could write him a letter saying your sorry and admitting what you did was wrong? So he will always have that?

This
poor guy
What you did was so vindictive and the real life consequences for him have been awful

ILoveWhales · 29/08/2025 16:58

You have to confess but you know that.

lotsofpatience · 29/08/2025 16:59

Go the nearest police station and confess your felony.

WifeOfAGemini · 29/08/2025 16:59

Oh that’s bad. I have no advice but I really think you should try and fix it. Why can’t you tell the police?

Blackbookofsmiles1 · 29/08/2025 16:59

Seriously bad form. It the likes of you who give women a bad name.

Greycheck · 29/08/2025 17:01

Fucking hell.

You have to go to the police. You know this. The impacts will last with this man for the rest of his life.

Do the right thing.

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHaveDone · 29/08/2025 17:02

JFC that poor bloke. I really hope this is jackanory.
IF it’s true You have to tell the police so his conviction is overturned and his name cleared. He deserves his name cleared so it doesn’t affect future jobs, future relationships etc. He will have had family and friends turn against him because of it, it’s only right you confess so he can move on with his life.

CrazyCatMam · 29/08/2025 17:02

Fucking hell.

What a spiteful thing to do!

You feel awful about, as you should, but remorse is pointless unless you’re going to put it right. You need to go and speak to the police. It’s the right thing to do and the only thing that will wipe your conscience clean.

Lafufufu · 29/08/2025 17:02

This is rage bait nonsense

why would anyone plead guilty with NO evidence? Why would CPS proceed with zero evidence especially given the number of men (who even with alrvidence against them) CPS fail to pursue....

OP that's awful. I know it's probably really scary but you need to tell the police it wasn't true. It's a really bad thing to have put him through. No matter what other things he did. It will affect his employment and life in general.

I hope you know never to do anything like that again.

CosyNavyLeader · 29/08/2025 17:04

Speechless

Goldenboysmum · 29/08/2025 17:05

OP you can't fix it, the damage has been done!!

Jesus, the man tried to end his life it doesn't get much worse than that. What if he had succeeded? I lost my son to suicide, it destroyed me! That poor man 😪

But you definitely need to go to the police, and I hope you go to prison or at the very least a community payback order!

As a previous poster said, you are a cunt but I'd say you were an evil cunt 😡

afaloren · 29/08/2025 17:05

I didn’t think CPS would move forward with charges unless there was evidence? Men get away with beating women all the time.

Snippit · 29/08/2025 17:05

O.M.G!!! How could you do this, it’s so evil. You have ruined this man’s life, pure evil!

dontforgetme · 29/08/2025 17:05

If this is real, you are a disgrace.

Hi Angie

CosyNavyLeader · 29/08/2025 17:07

You cannot make it right unless you go to the police and take the repercussions.

No one is going to tell you otherwise.

Either that or go to hell basically.

CosyNavyLeader · 29/08/2025 17:08

I swear to god, if anyone does this to my son in the future, I will be the one who ends up in prison. You are a horrible, horrible person

amylou8 · 29/08/2025 17:10

Well presumably you made a statement and signed the oath on the statement. He was sentenced on the basis of your statement by a court. That's perjury which often carries a custodial sentence. Poor man.

elliesmummy19 · 29/08/2025 17:13

Jesus Christ, OP. I was expecting something minor when I read the title. This is awful. You’re ruining his life. You need to stop being selfish and tell someone. Tell the police.

pinkpedi · 29/08/2025 17:15

This has made me feel sick.
Last night, my lovely sweet 20 year old son and I were about to board our flight to go on a holiday together, I've been SO looking forward to it after a bit of a difficult time.
He got arrested at the gate, 7 policemen, handcuffed and taken away. It was AWFUL.
All because of a very bitter and actually unwell ex (she's been sectioned several times) who he hasn't even seen for 18 months telling lies. He was released a couple of hours later, no charge.
I think the police knew it was baseless, they were very kind tbh, told me to still go, keep his case and get him a flight today, they were even searching flight prices for me.
You MUST own up to this. I personally am going to look into harassment charges or something when we return to the uk and will be having words about protecting himself from women like this

Sorrynotsorry2 · 29/08/2025 17:18

What a horrible person you are...
Vile .
