Buyer keeps asking us to go back and collect items

We completed in my late father in laws bungalow 2 weeks ago. We were contacted as the buyer did not want items we had left ( believing them to be useful ). We duly collected these items as they were not fixed. They then contacted us again 3-4 days later asking us to get rid of more things again spare tiles etc which we again collected and disposed of. They have now asked us to go back again to remove a fixed coal bunker, the fixed shelves and workbench in the garage and a tool storage in the shed. The property is 100 mile round trip for us and whilst we have agreed the other items were not fixtures and fittings we are now becoming exasperated by them wanting us to go yet again and collect. The estate agent agreed they were now taking things too far and that we should block their number and that their solicitor would advise them that this was not something that we should have to do. It’s now two weeks after the sale and by no means is the property vast so they should really have listed all the items when they moved in. Do we have to remove these items as this is becoming very stressful

Good grief, you have certainly unleashed the vipers on this thread OP.

IMO leaving spare tiles from indoor decor is perfectly reasonable. Whenever you do redecorating you would always keep the spares in case one get broken. However, they didn't want them so fair enough.

From your photos I think expecting you to return and remove the garage shelving and coal bunkers is completely taking the piss.

Definitely block and let them go through their solicitor if they are unhappy.

We are about to sell MILs house and are rather dreading it, we'll have to be very careful who we sell it to as we are 100 metre up the road in a small village. Eek!

Do you have any idea how common it is to leave spares of any tiles currently on walls in a house? You seem a bit ignorant to any experience of buying or selling.

You also seem like something has gone very wrong in your life and you’re trying to feel like a big-I-am by being unpleasant to a Mumsnet OP. 😬

Can't you get them to do a definitive or final list of everything they want removed with the agreement that there are no more requests after the agreed final removal date?

I get your thinking that you were being helpful and my sellers left me stuff I still use a decade on, but also frankly junk that I had to tell them to come and get. It's subjective so you need to clarify this between you.

I wouldn’t do this, you’ve done enough. I would block them at this point. The pictures look fine.

If you read the attached message I made it clear these items were disposed of before completion so no husk was not left

Edited

This. Also she’s posted pictures showing it looks fine. If the sellers were complaining she’d taken these things then the same posters would be saying the opposite.

Ponderingwindow · 04/08/2024 17:00

Just ignore them.

leaving a small stash of matching tile or the leftover paint that matches the trim as long as it isn’t ancient is customary and incredibly useful. It was my own house and my own paint, but I just used that stash of supplies for a small repair that would have been a much bigger job without it.

God, pass them a bin bag and 60 seconds later…

OP - you’re good, block the buyers. Unfortunately, you can’t block individual posters on this thread 😊

leeverarch · 04/08/2024 17:01

They are just being silly now. Ignore them. Who removes shelves screwed to the wall or a coal bunker from a property they are selling?

When we moved in here, we found a box of spare kitchen tiles and some paint in the understairs cupboard, and some rolls of wallpaper in the loft. All of which we ended up using, and which came in handy.

MissPobjoysPonies · 04/08/2024 17:08

We had this with our PIL house sale, ironically they were on the doorstep before completion trying to get us out so we actually didn’t have time to clear some outside plant pots (also v emotional for PIL to effectively be kicked in by buyers).

After accommodating them, by retrieving at a later date, they then came back and threatened legal action. Our solicitor said they can but it wouldn’t be worth it financially to go to court - our estate agent said we’d done enough, I spoke to a KC family friend who said that vacant possession did not mean what the buyers were threatening us with…. BTW we also went back more than once but when they told me they wanted us to move a fence that had been in situ for a couple of decades I thought they were taking the piss.

so I blocked them (I’d been dealing with it) after telling them that they were welcome to discuss through solicitors. Haven’t heard anything since.

You have gone above and beyond - it's their house now.

I had a buyer who initially said he didn't want the appliances, but then changed his mind so left them free of charge.

He then tried to get me to pay for carpeting despite viewing the flat which had tiles, and kept sending solicitor letters asking for a contribution.

Some people will take the mick.

His solicitor must be an idiot! Who in their right mind thinks the vendor is liable for any renovation costs?

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/08/2024 17:13

Block 'em.

The time to say that they didn't want the fittings in the garage was pre completion.

I would have appreciated spare tiles, lots of people would so that wasn't a ridiculous idea (but perhaps ask first) but fixtures and fittings as seen on viewings, that are a part of the property.. and the bloody coal bunker... if you want those gone you say so before you complete, not after.

What next, will they want you to recarpet it, landscape the garden, take down the chimney.

How is this helpful Op? You've already been advised by the estate agent, you could also speak to your solicitor. They would both confirm that the requests aren't reasonable. Who the hell expects a coal bunker and shelving in a garage to be removed??

Strawberriesandpimms · 04/08/2024 17:20

We left spare bathroom and kitchen tiles in the garage (the brand is no longer made). We also left the shelving in the garage, like yours. Neither were listed on the fixtures form. It's on the buyers to sort after completion surely as it's not like you've left mountains of junk and old white goods!

One house we bought the previous owner left their cat and a house full of fleas! 🦟

Ok, have you twigged that this is a legal matters board then, and not AIBU? Because your relentless posting style suggests perhaps not.

Honestly OP they are taking the piss now!

They want you to a 3rd journey ?!!! Wow!

Couldn't they have pointed everything out after the first journey you made!

Nah you've done what's needed OP.

And I agree it sounds like some posters have never bought or sold a house before.

Honestly and @headpillowhit
what's up with you ? You've been out for OP since the beginning. Those shelves???! You're taking the piss.

Spare flooring tiles are definitely NOT junk and they removed those before the sale was complete. The items the buyers want removed now are basically part of the property the buyers purchased. Are you saying you'd remove installed shelves, a workbench, and a small concrete structure before completing a sale?

Don’t worry, they’ve been doing the same in my thread 😆

Yes, I wish the previous owners of my home had been able to do this. Spare tiles would have been particularly appreciated as I have one cracked tile in the bathroom and another in the kitchen.

Bloom15 · 04/08/2024 17:43

Just ignore and block them OP - they are using you as a disposal service
