Nightmare Neighbour

Hello

Please can I have some advice.

We moved into out new home 2 years ago. I live with my husband and two young girls. Unfortunately our neighbour us constantly rude and runs us down at the the top of the voice and shouts things over the fence when our young children are playing. They are an elderly couple and I know the women falls out with everyone and by her own admission her children, grandchildren and great children have nothing to do with her. Her partners children also have nothing to do with him so clearly she has issues.

We are a quiet family, the girls play out between 4 and 5:30pm in the summer months ( they are in bed by 6:00pm) and the minute we open our door to out garden she's shouting abuse. It even happens if I simply go to let my dog outside for a wee.

I'm aware they drink heavily and often are very drunk by the afternoon.

I have reported it to 101 however nothing comes of it.

What are my next steps as I'm pretty sure they are taking pictures of my kids in there bathing suits in the paddling pool also.

Get your phone out and record what you see

Or next time they are out, ask them

TaylorSwiftFan · 16/06/2023 23:23

Phone the police

applespearsbears · 16/06/2023 23:33

I had this, they got issued with an ABC for harassment. Keep a record, record them if needs be and report

purpleme12 · 16/06/2023 23:37

When you say the shout abuse, what exactly do they shout?
And was this just once or how often?

croft89 · 17/06/2023 00:12

If they're shouting abuse over the fence then the hose pipe would definitely be coming out

Neighbours12 · 17/06/2023 08:09

Hiya

So it's been ongoing for 18 months.

They shout "they are going to poison my cat". " "tell my kids to shut up" they run my dresses down, our garden, our children, our cat, our dog.
Everything we say they ridicule.

How do we get a harassment order?

Thanks

Helena

Record the audio of what they are saying, ensuring it's got a time stamp, once you have a few incriminating recordings plus photographs of them filming in the paddling pool, you need to approach the police, it's harassment but the filming of girls in bathing suits is potentially a more serious crime.

purpleme12 · 17/06/2023 09:04

I'm unsure what you mean by 'they run my dresses down, our garden, our cat, our dog'

Why do you think they're taking photos of your children?
This is a horrible question but do you think they actually are doing it with sinister intentions or do you think they're doing it as another way to make you feel uncomfortable?

Having had experience of neighbour harassment -

You need evidence. Video recordings/voice recordings.

'I'm going to poison your cat ' is a threat so police might take notice of that one. But it'll only go somewhere if you've got evidence either way.

Shouting tell your kids to shut up I'm unsure to be honest if police will be able to do anything unfortunately.
Although you might have more luck with the council on that? For anti social behaviour I mean.
Again, more evidence you can get, the better.

Enterthewolves · 17/06/2023 10:01

Your local authority will have an anti-social behaviour team. Contact them, they will be able to help more than the police

Fiddlechops82 · 17/06/2023 10:03

Who else has the woman fallen out with?

Fiddlechops82 · 17/06/2023 10:04

You seem to know a lot about the woman

Neighbours12 · 17/06/2023 10:54

Ah so what I mean it's honestly everything. She will comment if I'm wearing red again etc.

The filming makes me worried sick as in the sunny weather we are having our kids are using thier paddling pool and I feel they should be able to.

The women has fallen out with all the neighbours and she has very very loud conversations outside to someone on the phone saying her kids have nothing to do with her. The day we moved in she randomly told me she her kids have nothing to do with her.

She never has any visitors ( i work from home) and she never leaves the house. Sits in all winter and then in her garden all spring summer ( that's her life) .

She drinks heavily ( I see her) and her words are sloshed by the afternoon.

She hates all the neighbours cats, people camper vans, peoples dogs, peoples clothes, peoples gardens, peoples kids, everything basically x

Can you get a ring camera up in your garden to record her verbal abuse? Then you can focus on filming them with their cameras. I would call Environmental Protection too. Surely that’s antisocial noise. I would contact the council annd police and let them know every - single - time that you are being harassed. I would contact your MP too.

Sunnydaysareuponus · 17/06/2023 10:59

Invest in a small radio op. Bit of background noise on quietly is great. I have misophonia and it helps with ndn's barking bloody ddog..

Neighbours12 · 17/06/2023 14:42

I will look into a camera, just scared about the costs etc and the damage she could cause to the camera. Literally sat outside experiencing her bile now.

She is going berserk because my children and I are sat having an ice cream x

Cant you record these outbursts and log complaints with the council...and get a camera, make sure it only points on your property, of she damages it then its another thing you can report her for.

What does your neighbour “going berserk”

whilst you eat an ice cream in the next door garden look like?

id be investing in some fencing. Really good quality. I have no visual whatsoever in to my neighbours garden and vice versa
hence me sunbathing in my underwear!

you should try to point cameras away from neighbours' homes and gardens, shared spaces or public streets. But this is not always possible, and it is not illegal to do so.

WhineWhineWhineWINE · 17/06/2023 16:00

I think I'd be putting a 6ft fence along the boundary. They sound horrible. Record everything you can, ignore and don't respond. Build up your evidence and then report them for harassment.

Ilikewinter · 17/06/2023 16:07

My point here was that if the camera covered the neighbours property she would use it as a reason to abuse the OP further. However if the camera only points on the OP house/garden then the batshit neighbour - who would still kick off - cannot claim that he OP is doing anything wrong.

Thegoodbadandugly · 17/06/2023 16:32

My neighbours absolutely hate me, they are both narrcasistic and I have serious concerns about their children and what they are doing to their children, without going into to much detail as it is very outing but she has come out with a hate campaign against me as she knows I am onto them! If your neighbour is that bad I would record everything that way you will be able to prove it.

Fiddlechops82 · 17/06/2023 16:37

You said make sure it “only points at your property”

I wanted to clarify the legal position

Fiddlechops82 · 17/06/2023 16:37

Presumably you have been in contact with SS to convey your concerns?
