Unauthorised photography within my home and sharing of the photographs

I found out that a contractor has taken photographs of the inside of my home that I did not authorise, one of them has got my child in the corner I’m fucking furious about. Obviously it’s gone from one employees phone to another and then it’s been forwarded onto who is thinks is me but actually I’m using an email address that isn’t the one that he would have on my contract if that makes sense so I think he’s on thin ice with that.

This can’t be legal surely ?

No toddler was in the front room watching CBeebies. Completely unaware that it was about to be photographed. Not smiling or anything

It!?

And why would your child be smiling? Most kids don't care about being photographed at that age!

TheWurst · 09/11/2022 19:57

I am going to make some big assumptions because at least if OP refutes then it might help narrow down wtf is going on here…

-OP rents house and something is broken
-Landlord/social housing arranges contractor

  • Contractor gets to house and it’s too cluttered/poor access to whatever is broken/ large angry dog etc
-Contractor takes photo evidence of this and sends to landlord/SH -Landlord/SH sends to OP with reason why they couldn’t do job and informing her that breaches tenancy agreement. -OP mad about being caught out and child being in photo.

Is any of that correct?

We need a diagram op. I'm confused - your kid is in the lounge watching tv, the builders are in the hall and you're at the back of the house? Why did you take them to the back of the house when they needed to photograph the living room? I'm so confused!

The work they were doing was from the hallway to the lounge through to the kitchen.

obviously it’s been communicated as to why they couldn’t do it. I think the reason that they couldn’t do it is absolute bollocks and therefore I want my money back. They disagree and provided a photograph that I didn’t know they had of my house and of my child.

I basically would like this to be resolved by them returning my money and fucking off and deleting the photos of my house and my child. I haven’t posted this on am I being unreasonable because I am not being unreasonable this is not in dispute.

what I needed to know was is it legal for somebody to walk around your house taking snaps of your house and family if with ascertained that is indeed legal then I think consideration needs to be given to who gets through your front door going forward.

You're overreacting OP. We all do that sometimes. When you calm down you'll realise it's not that big a deal.

thinkponk48 · 09/11/2022 19:42

I can't blame them for taking a photo. They where probably facing not being paid for a days work they couldn't do.

They need evidence for their own protection.

You've just made that up

No none it.

Would it have made a difference if the toddler had been smiling? Baffling.

fruitbrewhaha · 09/11/2022 19:58

I think you are angry about the wrong thing OP. You should be cross that the contractors did not carry out the work. The photo is neither here nor there.

😂😂

BadNomad · 09/11/2022 19:58

They weren't trying to photograph your child. He was just in the background. And they didn't post it on social media or anything. I don't think you can use that in your battle to get your money back.

Zoomingo · 09/11/2022 19:58

What is the reason

TheWurst · 09/11/2022 20:00

Changerofthename1 · 09/11/2022 19:58

No none it.

Ok well that narrows it down.

You paid a company to come and lay flooring. They turn up and it’s not clear so they can’t lay it. Take photo send to head office who email you and say breach of contract and we are keeping your deposit. You fly off the handle. Any closer?

This is really weird Grin I love a delightfully bonkers MN thread of an evening

How is this bonkers?! The only thing that's bonkers is the behaviour of PP who are deliberately misunderstanding what OP is saying, in the hope of another pile-on

Josette77 · 09/11/2022 20:00

I am wondering if there is a hoarding situation or something? That would explain the pictures.

Have they said why they photograghed the first room?

CandyLeBonBon · 09/11/2022 20:00

Sounds like they thought you stomped off in a huff and didn't want to annoy you further, op, so they took the photos they needed and left.

I'm more concerned that you've just left a 2 y/o in front of the tv by himself knowing there were strangers in the house, whilst you went to the back of the house, presumably to talk to the builders about the works - so could've been a lengthy conversation.

TheWurst · 09/11/2022 20:01

@ChristmasisRuined - if you understand please do enlighten the rest of us because I am honestly baffled.

MichelleScarn · 09/11/2022 20:01

obviously it’s been communicated as to why they couldn’t do it.

there's nothing obvious about this communication!

Zoomingo · 09/11/2022 20:01

I think they can. It's like the evri people can

ChristmasisRuined · 09/11/2022 20:02

@NiceTwin Yet another poster making shit up. Try RTFT for god's sake. OP has already made it clear that she most certainly did not leave her child home alone

No ones deliberately misunderstanding, it's just not possible to understand from the ops posts

GoonerGirl5231 · 09/11/2022 20:02

Don't know if this helps – I suspect not – but I just found this on a professional photographers' website, so the same will apply to your contractor.

They weren't breaking the law taking that pic, according to this.

What about the right to privacy ?

I don’t think such a concept exists in this country

medicatedgift · 09/11/2022 20:02

I'm sorry op but if your communication with them is as clear as it is here I would be confused too and I'd think a photograph would be helpful.

Brightpinkleopard · 09/11/2022 20:02

Your house must be very open plan for the photo to be of the lounge, hallway and back of the house.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 09/11/2022 20:03

Are you concerned that they've spotted where you're hiding the sea serpents, OP? Grin
I hope when you cool off you see the funny side of all of this.
