What happens in probate.
DAunt has suddenly passed away on Friday (58) No children.
She has lots of different accounts. We have found her will. We don't have POA.
In we I mean myself and my male cousin. Looking at her savings accounts we have noticed that a lot of money went out in the last few months.
In total about £30k. I'm worried that we will have to pay inheritance tax even though we haven't been given the money.
We both are the only beneficiarys. Her whole estate will add up to about £275k.
We don't know what solicitor to appoint or can we do it ourselves.

@PigletJohn Probate was granted in my case at end of March. It's showing on your link if that helps!

Be mindful of the fact the bank will question why cash has been withdrawn these days, due to money laundering regulations - I took cash out to buy a a car and had to say what for and why and whether I'd been coerced into parting with the cash. You may be able to ask the bank, by telling them you are concerned it was fraud and if they have a record of a legitimate purpose of the withdrawls as the estate may have to pay IHT.

We’re in the process of buying a probate property. We are not part of a chain ourselves and the solicitor said we should be in a position to complete by end of April. However I asked her to check what stage probate was currently at and the response from the vendor’s solicitor is that application for probate has been drawn up but not yet submitted. I also saw this ad in the paper which got my hopes up that perhaps we’ll be close to completion towards end of April but no idea if that’s the case or not really. Any advice or encouragement gratefully received. It’s mainly so we can get our builder booked in so that work can start once we’re the legal owners.
