New drive

Hi was wondering if anyone could help... I had a new drive laid yesterday which isn't the colour of resin I chose. They provided me with a sample and I agreed that was what I wanted however it's completely different.

They agree it's not what I chose and that the sample is different but because it has the same name as the sample they gave me they think there isnt a problem.

They offered to take £500 off the price or re do it.... I asked for it to be redone and they then got nasty and said I was the most awkward customer ever and I'll be hearing from their solicitor.

I haven't paid anything yet... any advice welcome.

They were only willing to accept £500 less and as it was nearly £3000 .... also their attitude was so unprofessional it was difficult to get to a negotiating stage.

They are in the wrong, and this yes not what you want to hear, but I wouldn't be surprised if a drive made in the colour of the sample weathers quite quickly to a similar colour to the drive you already have.
With this in mind, are you sure you want the hassle of having the whole thing replaced? With no guarantee they won't do a quick bodge job second time round.
I think I'd opt for a cheap drive and negotiate for a bigger discount rather than a whole new drive.

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 10:03

It wasn't a case of weathering, it was a completely different colour which they expected me to just accept... when I pointed it out their first remark was to see what their solicitor said...either way the drive is now ruined by them and will have to be replaced.

Please PLEASE tell me you have them doing this on cctv?
I cannot understand just how many people on here (MN) have all these issues, knowing that something could happen or that they are in the middle of an argument that involves threatening behaviour but do not be prepared to get video evidence of anything that may happen.

OP it is very reasonable to believe that they have vandalised your drive. Completely and utterly Obvious even. However, proving it could be more difficult and a case may not actually be pursued.

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 11:33

I know I know...no CCTV

Oh crap. Sorry to hear that. Can I suggest you get something up ASAP? You don't know how far this will escalate.
I have a motion sensor battery powered one that works through WiFi but it depends on if you want a bit of street covered too (to get evidence of vehicles of potential harassers). If it's a high traffic area a motion sensor one (like my Blink XT2) will go off all the time and a constant recorder with a DVR might be a better option.

Even if they never reappear, cctv is absolutely worth its weight in gold IF anything happens. It also hugely dieters burglars.

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 12:07

Thank you.. absolutely good advice and I had been considering it because of this situation, just wasn't quick enough. I live in a quiet street but feel I'll be on edge for ever after this

I’d get some form of CCTV or camera up not. Even a Ring doorbell from Amazon in the short term and go back to the police about the damage to your drive.

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 13:25

Sparklyowl. I've been ringing round to get some CCTV up as soon as poss...not sure what the police will say tomorrow, hopefully something positive but not hopeful

OP, ask around your neighbours if they have any cottage that covers your drive.

mineofuselessinformation · 07/11/2020 14:01

CCTV footage, sorry!

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 14:32

Hi, they don't!

I am saying the colour you want would probably weather down to the colour that you've actually got.
So questioning whether replacing what you have is better than a discount and keeping it.
Don't cut your nose off to spite your face.

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 18:38

They laid an almost white resin when I'd asked for seashore which is a pale beige... anyway it's covered in red paint now so can't be kept anyway

BlueThistles · 07/11/2020 18:54

OP what they have done is is criminal attempt to destroy the evidence ... and it's also cr

BlueThistles · 07/11/2020 18:54

criminal damage 🌺

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 19:39

BlueThistles. I agree, they say they are coming back to take back what is theirs, it would suit me if they dug it up but I doubt they would then relay the concrete which was the original drive... I just feel helpless as if they can just walk into my drive any day or night ... they said at the beginning it wouldn't end well for me... which was their first threat. I've just ordered CCTV to be fired ASAP but I actually doubt it would stop them. They are awful, absolute idiots

OP posts:
BlueThistles · 07/11/2020 19:54

Have you told the Police that they keep coming onto your property to damage it? I really feel you are under threat OP in your own home.. I have a bad feeling about this... particularly as they seem to have no fear whatsoever about covering your drive in red paint... do you have a camcorder or a dog ? something that would alert you so you an record quickly ... its an awful situation OP but thankfully and this is where their anger stems from... you have not paid them ... so credit to you ... they guys that laid it will be getting hell from their boss too ... stay strong... 🌺

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 20:23

The police are calling me tomorrow, they sprayed it on Friday, put markings on as if to look as if it was directions to lift it up.. arrows etc. Whether they will come back to lift it, I haven't got a clue or if they are legally entitled to take it I don't know. However if they leave it it is going to cost me more to have it redone as it needs to be removed first....I can't relax as I feel they might even do something to my car, I have a guy coming next week to fit CCTV hopefully sooner rather than later

OP posts:
BlueThistles · 07/11/2020 20:29

I feel despair for you and completely sympathise and understand your fears.. is there nobody who can come sooner to install cctv.. even a temp one from B&Q until it is installed next week.. sorry OP I do hope you get some sleep .. you and your daughter 🌺

Cahu58 · 07/11/2020 20:43

BlueThistles thank you x

DreadingSeason2020sFinale · 07/11/2020 21:01

When is the CCTV being fitted? I'd be tempted to run out and get a camera first thing and set it watching your drive as a stopgap measure. Even if it's a web cam looking out of a window.

malealmost30 · 07/11/2020 21:16

Really sorry you are going through this, they sound like proper cowboys. I agree with DreadingSeason2020sFinale think faffing around getting people to come and fit CCTV is a waste of time. I would have been down Argos buying a GoPro and slapping it in the front window straight away. Hopefully everything works out for you though.

throwaway10000 · 07/11/2020 21:19

If your daughter will be at home just get her to film them? Her phone on a windowsill set to record all day would work

BlueThistles · 08/11/2020 23:07

How are you OP ... 🌺
