Aunt has died and her friend reluctant to leave her house

Our aunt died late November and she had a friend staying when she died. The friend lives overseas and doesn’t want to go (yet, she says).

Just getting a bit nervy about whether she will decide to stay even longer, and what problems that might cause. She has been left a lump sum in the will. The house and belongings are left to the estate to be sold and shared amongst various family members. Aunty leaves no spouse or children.

Do we have anything to worry about or should we just proceed with probate, sale of house and just tell her you need to make arrangements to leave?

CrotchetyQuaver · 26/01/2020 09:31

ThanosSavedMe · 26/01/2020 18:19

So did she leave peacefully?

SunshineCake · 26/01/2020 18:22

Some people are greedy. I know of someone who was left a couple of grand but their half siblings weren't given anything. The parents of the half siblings got about £80k but they begrudged the £2k Sad.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 26/01/2020 19:36

Having read through the thread, ever since the OP mentioned dementia - who goes to stay for months with someone who has dementia? That’s utterly weird and piss-taking! If the aunt wasn’t well enough for POA, she presumably wasn’t well enough to consent to “friend” staying for months on end either!

Just as well the solicitor seems to have her measure, OP - what a piece of work!

PatellarTendonitis · 26/01/2020 19:41

Hope she is out!

Newmumma83 · 26/01/2020 19:52

Op I am hoping you have your feet up glass of wine in hand celebrating the removal
Of the so called friend ... my thoughts are with you

CoraPirbright · 27/01/2020 22:22

What a wicked woman. Hope she is well on her way home.

nibdedibble · 28/01/2020 12:20

Did you manage to get rid of her?

ScapaFlo · 29/01/2020 14:24

@JellyBook any news? How did it go? Hope all's well.

NoFucksImAQueen · 30/01/2020 08:56

@JellyBook

CoraPirbright · 03/02/2020 18:30

Any news OP?

AlexaAmbidextra · 07/02/2020 16:09

I think OP is sitting laughing at everyone’s desperation to know the outcome and has no intention of coming back. I wonder why? Hmm

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 07/02/2020 16:49

No surely not?

Come back @JellyBook........

ScapaFlo · 07/02/2020 17:27

Perhaps the nasty CF has killed her in a fit of pique

Jonb6 · 07/02/2020 21:03

Unfortunately because Op didn't have her removed within a couple of days of Aunt's death she is probably deemed to have an AST. Getting her out may need to proceed to court, and perhaps the 'friend' knows it.

informedisgood · 08/02/2020 00:33

Shouldn't be an ast if no money changed hands.
