New Georgia abortion ban

oreoscoco · 12/05/2019 15:12

What's your opinion? Georgia has made a new law where women cannot get an abortion if they are 6 weeks and over. And women who get abortions can be faced with prison sentences for doing so.

OP posts:
acatcalledjohn · 12/05/2019 16:44

A compromise to her mental and physical health is a better outcome than a death.

Wow. I'm speechless.

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:44

@PinkieTuscadero might I ask what's so repulsive? A woman can work through health issues, a child that is killed cannot be conceived again.

ThatCurlyGirl · 12/05/2019 16:45

I am of the opinion that life begins at conception. I am entitled to believe this and I did not post this to try and into a debate, I was simply giving my opinion in response to the OP.

That's why I said in my post that I respect your right to your opinion and that you didn't have to reply.

I just find it baffling and (genuinely, not snarkily) hope anyone who feels the same way never has to go through some of the horrific reasons women choose not to continue with a pregnancy.

Like you say there's no need to debate, we are both entitled to our opinion and I said explicitly that I respect your right to yours.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:46

Chilling isn't it? The blithe manner in which these 'pro-life' people casually dismiss a woman's physical and mental health as being utterly dispensable.

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:46

In all honesty I'm not looking to debate this today and will leave this threat before things turn any more sour. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I haven't attacked yours.

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 16:48

Like you say there's no need to debate, we are both entitled to our opinion and I said explicitly that I respect your right to yours.

Ah, but your opinion is wrong ... so therefore not as valid ... (not my view, but what people will use to then oppress you ....)

(Incoming in 3...2...1)

acatcalledjohn · 12/05/2019 16:48

If you are too chicken to back up your opinion with solid arguments then yes, please take your opinion and stuff it.

Oh; and please leave your right to bodily autonomy here. You don't need it.

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 16:49

In all honesty I'm not looking to debate this today and will leave this threat before things turn any more sour.

Sometimes, it's the little things that challenge my atheism ....

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:50

They always scurry off.

Karwomannghia · 12/05/2019 16:53

When I read that women who miscarry could be investigated for manslaughter I felt terrified. When you have a miscarriage you question whether you could have done something different and feel grief and guilt without the added horror of someone interrogating you. It’s like a horror movie. Women who go to another state to have an abortion can be tracked down and charged- there’s no escape. No one takes abortion lightly.

tenbob · 12/05/2019 16:54

A woman can work through health issues, a child that is killed cannot be conceived again.

Would you like to know the gory details of what it’s like to be a child born to a mother with severe mental health problems? Because I’m happy to share...

Also, just out of interest, how much additional tax are you willing to pay to provide sufficient mental health provision for women to ‘work through’ all these health problems caused by this Utopian law..?

ThatCurlyGirl · 12/05/2019 16:54

@Pinkyyy you asked @PinkieTuscadero a question then said you didn't want to debate - be fair, if you're going to voice a firm opinion and challenge other people's you should offer a right to reply. But you've pro-chosen to leave the thread so nevermind.

For anyone else who finds some people's lack of empathy for other women on this issue triggering / upsetting - you aren't alone. I'm sorry for anyone who has had to make such a difficult decision ThanksThanksThanks

sweetkitty · 12/05/2019 16:58

Was just going to come on and say Gilead was begun

Don’t agree with abortion, fine don’t have one
Not your body, not your choice.

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 16:59

Mind you, here in the UK, with the rape clause for benefits, we're closer than we might care to admit Sad.

Karwomannghia · 12/05/2019 17:02

Me too and this is very close to my heart, as a good friend who almost died giving birth to her 8 month old ds and was told not to have any more, just found herself pregnant to her dh who has just left her after having an affair and he had had the all clear from his vasectomy. How much more must women have to bear? A murder charge?

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 17:09

I've chosen to leave the thread because it's just going to be a constant attack on me. I don't need to share facts and figures to 'back up' my opinion, it's an opinion not a research project. I'm not here to be attacked so I'd rather leave, thanks.

Atalune · 12/05/2019 17:10

Can I just ask as to why? Why do some US states want to prevent abortion, even in extreme cases of rape and incest?

What benefit does it give, the pregnant girl/woman? The child? Society? Why? I just cannot wrap my head around it on a individual or societal scale? Is it simply the religious ideology prevents any critical thinking here?

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 17:11

I don't need to share facts and figures to 'back up' my opinion

especially when they don't ....

mollysshadow · 12/05/2019 17:13

There are no facts that can back up forcing an 11 year old rape victim to continue with her pregnancy. Utterly abhorrent.

Atalune · 12/05/2019 17:15

pinkky I’m not going to have a go at you, however could you just say are you against abortion in the most extreme circumstances such as child rape, incest?

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 17:15

She's only an 11 year old rape victim. She'll get over an enforced birth in no time!

ThatCurlyGirl · 12/05/2019 17:16

@Pinkyyy Don't directly ask other posters to back up their opinions then. Bye.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 17:16

Is it simply the religious ideology prevents any critical thinking here?

A particular type of religious ideology that says abortion is murder but the death penalty isn't.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 17:22

Of course with a lot of American right-wing politicians it's do as I say not as I do. Because when their mistress gets pregnant they seem to have a much more relaxed approach to abortion. Funny that...
