New Georgia abortion ban

What's your opinion? Georgia has made a new law where women cannot get an abortion if they are 6 weeks and over. And women who get abortions can be faced with prison sentences for doing so.

I didn’t know this and I’m shocked and sickened.
I’m shocked that any woman could support this also. If you don’t believe in abortion, don’t have one.
What about termination for medical reasons?

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:06

Without abortion and guns the Republicans don't really have an identity anymore, beyond being the party of Trump and all his illegalities. Re. gund, well the NRA seem to be in disarray so ramping up the ante against women's healthcare is probably being done with an eye on the 2020 election. Keep the base onside.

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 16:07

There is an interesting suggested protest ...

Although I am going to guess that a legal system that limits abortion like this is going to be less bothered with the concept of marital rape either.

forestafantastica · 12/05/2019 16:13

I thought studies has shown that banning abortion doesn't even massively decrease the number of abortions carried out. Just the number of women who die in the process. There is literally no gain. I guess maybe some unwanted children are born who are more likely to be abused or neglected and end up getting in trouble later in life.

A terrible law that will only do harm.

Thesearmsofmine · 12/05/2019 16:15

I think it’s frightening. As someone else has said it will lead to back street abortions.

FromEden · 12/05/2019 16:19

I don't know, the goal is controlling women so that's a gain for them. They don't care about women dying either.

What I don't get is most people who support these laws are also vehemently anti any kind of state financial help for poorer families. So once the unwanted or unaffordable child is born they are happy for them to live a shitty poverty filled life and literally don't give any fucks about them. They don't care about children or babies at all, it's only about imposing their will on women.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:19

Irrelevant to these people. It's about controlling women's bodies. Hence the disingenuous description from these politicians describing the contraceptive pill as an abortifacient. It's about ramping up anti abortion fervour at any cost.

AndAnotherName · 12/05/2019 16:20

found this, seems optimistic? but I'm not sure......

AndAnotherName · 12/05/2019 16:22

actually after digesting the Washington post article, I think it's a bit "calm down women it's all going to be fine"

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:25

No you're not. You're anti-choice.

Whichever way you look at it, I'm against abortion.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:29

Whichever way I look at it, anyone who is applauding this law as being a 'wonderful thing' has no regard for women's health. What you're for is back street abortions.

FromEden · 12/05/2019 16:32

Whichever way you look at it, I'm against abortion

So you don't have one then. Why do you feel the need to force everyone else to adhere to your belief?

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:32

Georgia will be able to proclaim to all their fellow forced birthers, 'look at us and our abortion free Christian state. Isn't it wonderful?'. As women bleed to death. As children are born to parents who can't afford them. As they say 'absolutely not' when people ask to increase food stamps or free school lunches for these children. 'They shouldn't have had children if they can't afford to look after them'.

mollysshadow · 12/05/2019 16:34

Pro lifers don't seem to care much about the life or well being of the woman

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:36

I do care about the health of the woman. But I also care about the child being killed and never having a chance at life.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:38

No. You cannot possibly care for the health of women if you call this law 'wonderful'.

acatcalledjohn · 12/05/2019 16:39

I do care about the health of the woman.

No you don't: you actively applaud the removal of choice from women, thus compromising women's mental and physical health.

mollysshadow · 12/05/2019 16:40

A law that could lead to countless deaths of women and others being left scarred mentally and physically is not wonderful is not wonderful and does not show you care much for these women.
Ireland did the right thing after Savita's tragic and avoidable death. This is a huge step backwards.

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:40

A compromise to her mental and physical health is a better outcome than a death.

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 16:40

I thought studies has shown that banning abortion doesn't even massively decrease the number of abortions carried out.

In general, banning anything doesn't work. Which means you have to question why it's done.

A lot of laws have very little to do with public good, and an awful lot to do with enforcing someones morality. Usually not yours.

ThatCurlyGirl · 12/05/2019 16:41

@Pinkyyy I respect your right to choice when it comes to your personal experiences (which is why I am pro-choice) but if you don't mind me asking do you consider yourself blanket 'pro-life' or are there some circumstances in which you change stance?

You don't have to answer of course, just a curious question from a pro-choicer.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 16:41

A compromise to her mental and physical health is a better outcome than a death.

And here we have it., True colours revealed.

Utterly repulsive.

DGRossetti · 12/05/2019 16:42

I do care about the health of the woman. But I also care about the child being killed and never having a chance at life.

I think the two "I"s in there tell us who you are really caring about here ...

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:42

I am of the opinion that life begins at conception. I am entitled to believe this and I did not post this to try and into a debate, I was simply giving my opinion in response to the OP.

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 16:43

@ThatCurlyGirl yes I am blanket pro-life in general.
