New Georgia abortion ban

What's your opinion? Georgia has made a new law where women cannot get an abortion if they are 6 weeks and over. And women who get abortions can be faced with prison sentences for doing so.

OP posts:
Emu99 · 12/05/2019 15:21

I think it's a shame. Not many women know they are pregnant until they are past 6 weeks

Emu99 · 12/05/2019 15:22

(Name change)

DameFanny · 12/05/2019 15:29

I think it's Gilead in action

Atalune · 12/05/2019 15:30

Who makes these stupid ducking laws!

Women should have full body autonomy.

mollysshadow · 12/05/2019 15:31

It's horrific and I fear it's only the start

SecretWitch · 12/05/2019 15:34

It is untenable. This will greatly affect poor women as their wealthier counterparts will fly or drive to states with much more liberal access to abortion. This law is receiving considerable blow back, which I hope will help take it off the books.

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 15:38

I think this is a wonderful thing. I am pro-life though.

HoustonBess · 12/05/2019 15:41

Does Georgia have any exports we can boycott or anything? This is horrendous.

You can't stop abortion, you can only make it illegal.

Emu99 · 12/05/2019 15:42

@Pinkyyy everyone has there opinion! Many are completely against it full stop others not so much.

Atalune · 12/05/2019 15:44

What’s their accessibility to brith control?

Whats their education like on sex health?

I fear that this goes hand in hand with right wing Christian doctrines which are a gross misuse of state money. It’s rubbish

Pinkyyy · 12/05/2019 15:44

@Emu99 I agree. Although I suppose the benefits of there being no law means that everyone is able to choose for themselves. I just feel so sad at how it's considered no big deal.

SecretWitch · 12/05/2019 15:46

HoustonBess peaches and Vidalia onion! I’ve read that many filming companies are pulling out of Georgia until that horrific law is overturned.

Marmite27 · 12/05/2019 15:47

Is this the same state that’s planning to make contraception that prevents implantation illegal too? If not, there is one that is.

Welcome to Gilead indeed. Angry

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 15:47

I think this is a wonderful thing. I am pro-life though.

No you're not. You're anti-choice.

SpeckofStardust · 12/05/2019 15:50

SecretWitch Those wealthier women who plan to or do travel out of state had better be damned careful not to trust anyone with the information they are or may be pregnant before they leave then since they will face criminal charges/prison as will anyone helping them. Miscarriages will be investigated to make sure the woman didn’t do anything to ‘cause’ the miscarriage. They are also looking at denying contraceptive cover for IUDs and the pill or anything that might stop a fertilized egg implanting. It’s totally fucked up.

Nquartz · 12/05/2019 15:50

@Atalune

Possibly based on stereotypes/what I've seen in the media/read etc but I imagine it is the type of state which teaches no sex before marriage, abstinence instead of birth control.

I think this is disgraceful, particularly as said upthread it will disproportionately affect poorer women.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 15:51

As I understand it the new law is designed to be challenged in the hope that it will then be brought before the Supreme Court, the main aim being a bid to get Roe v Wade overturned.

Frightening times for American women.

Keeping in mind always though those women in a certain part of the UK for whom abortion is still illegal.

acatcalledjohn · 12/05/2019 15:52

I think this is a wonderful thing. I am pro-life though.

It's wonderful that women can be given the death for murder for exercising the basic human right that is bodily autonomy?

Jesus wept.

Danglingmod · 12/05/2019 15:54

I don't want to be on this planet anymore nor to have any further descendants.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/05/2019 15:55

Texas legislature trying to bring in the death sentence for women who have an abortion really shows that 'pro-life' bullshit for what it is.

Atalune · 12/05/2019 15:57

It’s awful.

AndAnotherName · 12/05/2019 16:01

I was just about to post the same as SpeckofStardust

The law is abominable and It's frightening that miscarriages will be investigated and anyone going out of county will still be prosecuted along with anyone who helped.

AndAnotherName · 12/05/2019 16:03

isn't Ohio doing something similar too? I can't remember off hand.

SecretWitch · 12/05/2019 16:03

SpeckofStardust I can’t even fucking imagine! I live in a very liberal state (for which I’m grateful) but am furious on behalf of Georgia’s women.

mollysshadow · 12/05/2019 16:04

Abortion has always existed. Banning it won't stop it, it simply drives it underground and back to the days of horrific back street procedures.
