is this okay for the school Headmistress to do this to me? they say i parked illegally this morning, took a photo of my car and have now emailed every single parent at my DS's school with all the information. nothing has been proved! i know i've probably annoyed a neighbour but is this fair how the Headmistress has acted? Surely I must have some rights too? It's just sooo embarrassing as I count lots of the mummies as my good friends. I don't think she should have been able to do this and would like to know my legal rights and complain about this treatment. Really awful for my DS too.

It wasn't irony OP. Or you learned your definition from Alanis Morrisette.

CainInThePunting · 10/11/2015 16:45

Good! Serves you right.

For some reason school drop-off seems to make people drive, park and behave like utter lunatics, with no consideration for others' safety, least of all the children ffs.

Gives me the rage.

Topseyt · 10/11/2015 16:46

If you are blocking someone's drive or obstructing the road so that vehicles cannot easily get past, or pedestrians (very possibly with children in tow) have to walk in the road to get round then you are illegally and dangerously parked.

What if an ambulance, police or the fire engine were unable to get past to attend an emergency call. That is one of the reasons for the rules on parking.

vindscreenviper · 10/11/2015 16:46

I think you have been treated very poorly on this thread OP, in fact I think that you do have grounds to take legal action against the Head and the school.
I recommend making an appointment with a lawyer ASAP, in fact not just a lawyer but a QC, bear in mind that the best chance you have of getting legal redress is to hire the most expensive QC you can find.

Good luck Grin

prh47bridge · 10/11/2015 16:47

What I wanted to know is are the school allowed to publish a statement that I parked illegally without any consideration of the facts.

If what they have published is untrue that is libel and you could, if you wish, take action against them. However if it is true they haven't done anything wrong.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 10/11/2015 16:48

No, Vipers, she's right.

I have empathy for the poor OP - getting kids up and out the house in time to do a school run is really challenging. And, by the time you get there there's no parking, and you'll make the kid late if you park at the next space which is miles away. Only solution is to park and dash as fast as you can and hope that the neighbour doesn't need to move out their house.

I wonder what everyone else does to manage these difficult situations. Twice a day, every day.

Mystery.

Oh, no, hang on a minute. We get up early enough and value our school communities enough to not piss off the neighbours.

To answer your question - there's not a law in the land who would chastise the HT for acting in the way she did. You do this regularly, don't you?

HT was giving you a warning shot - next time she'll call the police and then you can ask them about your legal footing, that'll be handy.

who said the Headmistress took the photo?

You implied it in your OP when you said:
is this okay for the school Headmistress to do this to me? they say i parked illegally this morning, took a photo of my car and have now emailed every single parent at my DS's school with all the information

Where in my original post does it say I broke the law?

In your second post you said:
People regularly park across my drive and the neighbour has the right to be cross, of course.

Which, coupled with the fact that both the neighbour and the headmistress think you parked illegally, rather implies you were parked across a driveway.

SoupDragon · 10/11/2015 16:50

without any consideration of the facts.

What are those facts then?

vindscreenviper · 10/11/2015 16:56

I can just picture us all in the dock, mute and shame-faced, while the op's £5k per hour lawyer berates us for our lack of solidarity.

charlie0123 · 10/11/2015 16:57

HOW DID YOU PARK?

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 10/11/2015 17:03

Too funny!

And FYI my comment on sisterhood was how everyone seems to like to jump in on a bashing session.

Just because we all agree that you are wrong doesn't make it a 'bashing session'. It might just mean that you are actually wrong.

Seriouslyffs · 10/11/2015 17:16

If only there were photographic evidence of your parking- then we could judge it. Wink

verycrossandembarrassed · 10/11/2015 17:18

Think this will be my last post on this so here goes... (not running away upset by responses, more shocked by the appalling language and vitriol which is never helpful). I didn't realise I had to give you all chapter and verse -it's a legal thread (and perhaps it should be renamed) so it seemed a legal question could be asked. Not, how can I get out of this but I'd hoped (not expected) that perhaps someone might say, it's not within the school's powers to declare that someone has done something illegal and to a fairly wide audience. Yes of course the Head can say people are parking in such a way neighbours are complaining - and can use my number plate in that connection. Yes this does feel tough given the number of really dangerous parking incidents at my DSs school. Parking on the yellow zig zags (never by me but occurs daily including by people connected to the school) stopping in the middle of the road (never by me) and stopping traffic getting through. None of these have been "named and shamed" (just borrowing what someone else said, no my name has not been published) I wondered if it was something that should be pursued differently so that my side of the story could be put TO THOSE AFFECTED (ie the Head and any residents with an interest).
To those asking, I have put my hand up to possibly annoying behaviour - see above. I have said I won't do it again - see above. How many of you have never annoyed anyone? No cars (ambulances, fire engines, police cars etc) were blocked. It did not impact on safe crossing of the road for children (or anyone else). Some people posting have made reasonable, rational comments. In some parts of the Highway Code doing something "for a minute" DOES make a difference. Thanks to those who thought maybe the Head could have handled this differently. As to the rest, please go and make a more positive contribution to the world. Trolling me isn't constructive, now is it? Even if you like feeling so superior. Thank you and good bye!

I am new to all this....but since DD started reception I have been Hmm and Shock at some of the parking of the. Same. Parents fuckwits!

OP why did you park over somebodies drive (or partially)? Why didn't you park your car another 100m away....oh yes, that's right you couldn't be bothered to walk that little bit extra!

My DD's school regularily publishes number plates in their newsletters, as they should!

fastdaytears · 10/11/2015 17:20

Seems appropriate

school emailed round my car reg telling whole world i parked illegally
P1nkP0ppy · 10/11/2015 17:21

Whatever.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 10/11/2015 17:21

Snort.

People aren't trolling you.

From the fact that you still don't want to say how you parked, I think they've got the exact measure of you.

And the grown up response to a telling off is not:

  • can I get you back; or
  • someone else did worse miss,

which seem to be the only things you've said so far.

You'd have had your arse handed to you wherever you posted this. Just because you wanted people to focus on the legality (which plenty answered) doesn't mean that there isn't a legitimate context.

vindscreenviper · 10/11/2015 17:21

Was this you op?

school emailed round my car reg telling whole world i parked illegally
fastdaytears · 10/11/2015 17:21

Oh and goodbye

RhodaBull · 10/11/2015 17:22

(Bet she parks over that drive again tomorrow.)

NerrSnerr · 10/11/2015 17:24

Bloody hell OP, the fact that you haven't answered exactly how you parked and what your very good reason was is very telling.
