How old are you????

I know a lady should never be asked or reveal her age but I am interested to find out what age people on this forum started having children and when they stopped. The reason being today I went to the doctors. My eldest has had a terrible cough for over 6 weeks now so I just wanted to make sure he was alright. I had to take all 3 children (ds1 3, ds2 2 1/2 & DS£ 9 months). The way she (the doctor) spoke to me felt a little patronising. I just felt like a child who had done something without thinking i.e having more than 2.4 children. They boys were well behaved but she just kept referring to how many and how young they all are etc.

I had my first child at 26 and my last at 29. I was married (I still am), I own my own home; I'm educated so why then do people presume to have children in your twenties as oppose to your 30s is a juevenille mistake?????

Dts @ 32
Dd4 @ 35
I am now 38 and no5 is due one week before Christmas .

Gobbledigook · 18/10/2008 20:21

Zola - I had a few disapproving looks when mine were all little too as they are very close together in age like your.

Ds1 when I was 28 (now age 7.5)
Ds2 when I was just 30 (now almost 6)
Ds3 when I was 31 (age 4)

All same father, was married when I had them all.

Stopped because I always wanted 3 children so once I had them all it was just natural to stop.

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen · 18/10/2008 20:23

Im 23 and my boys are 2,3 and I have a 30 week baby bump.

I get alot of looks,

I had my first at 20.

I just ignore them because I know Im a great mum, my age is irrelevant,

I know 40 year olds with less kids who are cringe-worthy parents

Gawain · 18/10/2008 20:27

ds1 just 22
ds2 23
dd 25
Am now 27 and pregnant (still fingers crossed) with number four will be 28 when its born.

I also get the patronised feel sometimes yet when I first got pregnant I was married (21) and we owned our own home (20). Still am/do both those in fact. SO even if they wanted to take the moral high ground on what basis are they doing it?

Twelvelegs · 18/10/2008 20:29

ds1, 27 ds2, 28, dd1, 32, ds3 34

midnightexpress · 18/10/2008 20:32

You can't win can you? If you're in your twenties you get told you're too young and if you're in your thirties or forties you get told you're too old.

When are you 'supposed' to have them, I wonder (I had mine at 39 and 40. Way too old, obviously ).

4andnotout · 18/10/2008 20:34

Random I had DS in 1978, and was unmarried (married the prick of a father after he was born, divorced him two years later) and I was put in a separate room as I was unmarried!

BibiThree · 18/10/2008 20:43

WhateverHappenedtoBabyJaamy · 20/10/2008 01:21

Zola - how old is your doctor? Perhaps she is TTC and a bit worried that she's left it too late. Wouldn't take it personally.

missymoo2411 · 01/12/2008 19:17

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 06/12/2008 17:21

I had my twins at 38 and I have yet to meet two people more ignorant about babies, children and how to be a parent than DH and I were.

Being old does not necessarily equate to being a good parent. I wish I had a younger person's energy to be honest.

Squirdle · 06/12/2008 17:36

I had DS1 at 19, but sadly he was stillborn. DS2 at 20, DS3 at 29 and DS4 at 31. I'm now 35 and people ask if they all have the same father.....er yes. They also constantly say 'ooh you look far too young to have a 14 yr old'...er thank you very much ...but I assure you I am old enough to have a 14 yr old.

I also noticed a big difference when having our first sons to having the little ones, but that could well have been that I was older, wiser and less likely to stand for any patronising by then.

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 06/12/2008 17:37

Ds1 29
Ds2 32
Dd2 34 (31 weeks atm)

We actually said we wouldn't have kids in our 30's

I went to the GP's a fortnight ago with them all in tow and he raised his eyebrows when he saw my bump.
He asked me if I would like to consider something more permanent after this birth! Cheeky little sod!!

Good job I've been with him since I was 2yo.
