Any one else pregnant with baby number 5? I'm around 8 week 5 days!

I'm wondering how to tell the rest of the children as we haven't told them just yet!

On the contrary, the reason I am curious is we both earn 6 figures and couldn’t manage 5 kids despite professional jobs so I genuinely don’t understand how people do it.

Just to give some insight for my personal set up, my dh works nights/weekends and I work weekdays. It's tough going at times but once they are all in school things will get easier. (We have 4)

Thanks - gosh it sounds so hard but amazing you can make it work. I found school was a lot less of a relief than I assumed as the cost of wrap around care and holiday clubs is still substantial. Obviously less than the 2k a month that full time nursery is. I am assuming most parents of 5 find it cheaper to get a nanny or be a sahm.

My father was 1 of 5 - didn't claim benefits
My mother was 1 of 16 - didn't claim benefits
I am 1 of 5 and my parents have never claimed benefits.

My grandfathers and father. have all worked the arses off to provide. My point is, I suggest you keep your assumptions to yourself and worry about how you can improve on a better paid job if you want more children. You shouldn't be bashing women on the internet - it's bitter,

The comment about your taxes paying for others kids is ridiculous. Universal credit won't pay for more than two kids who are born after April 2017. So essentially, they wouldn't get more money for that 5th child. You sound very bitter and narrow minded.

My DH and I do not earn 6 figures and manage just fine. You clearly live beyond your means.

Agree! I know MN is anonymous but it still surprises me how many people come on here to parade their ignorance, display their meanness and flaunt their narrow mindedness.

Not at all; I guess people have different standards and want to give their kids different lifestyles. Ours have access to lots of activities and experiences and I’m pleased to be able to afford that. I earn over 6 figures and the only way could realistically increase that to the extent we could afford more kids would mean never seeing the ones that I have. But each to their own.

I definitely am ignorant about this as I haven’t done it because don’t feel we could afford it ; hence my curiosity about those who do and yes definitely have some assumptions which I’m happy to have corrected. Isn’t that the whole point of an anonymous forum, that you can speak more freely than real life ? And challenge each other / change minds ?

Muthaofcats I don't think that you have been offensive at all. I don't think pps are getting at you, it's the harsher responses they are aiming for.

You don’t think “I’ll enjoy paying for your children’s upkeep through my taxes” was maybe a bit offensive?

It always baffles me when people come to the larger families board to slag off larger families- it’s like when people post “oh I don’t care about fashion” in response to threads on style and beauty, bully for you but maybe you’re in the wrong place?

Happiestwhen · 24/09/2024 19:09

Fudgetheparrot sorry I didn't realise that was the same poster, yes that was nasty and uncalled for 😳

Muthaofcats · 24/09/2024 19:24

Yes that was probably uncalled for. Flippant reply to being rudely told to mind my own business. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable thing to enquire about. It is an unusual number of children and most people are struggling to make ends meet with 2:4 kids. As a higher earner I couldn’t fathom it so wonder how people on more average incomes do it or whether the stereotype of non-working families is a fair one. Happy to hear others perspectives and be corrected:

StressedQueen · 24/09/2024 19:32

@Muthaofcats I have 5 children (aged 15, 15, 12, 9 and 5) and we are incredibly comfortable and happy and do not rely on any kind of benefits. DH works as a corporate lawyer while I run my own business and generally do that from home. A lot of your comments do come across as very rude even if you were genuinely trying to ask questions.
