A general, friendly, supportive larger family chit-chat thread, anyone?

Does anyone on here fancy striking up a general thread, like the one that they have in the one-child families topic?

Preferably not with imaginary cakes and wine and butlers and virtual massages, etc though?

No need to post everyday unless you want to, just a chance to get to share the ups and downs with each other, as and when?

I'll play!

FiveHoursSleep · 20/02/2015 14:20

How big is a 'larger' family? I'm not sure we'd qualify

5ChildrenAndIt · 20/02/2015 14:33

Ach - you wanna chat - you qualify!

Misfitless · 20/02/2015 17:09

Oh great!

Two takers already! Smile

Hello - you both have 5/five in your name. What are the chances?

Well, any number of children, or none, it doesn't matter FiveHoursSleep. Only posted it here because...erm, I don't know really!

I've got 4 ranging from 5 yrs to 18 years. Half term here. We've had an at home day, catching up on dreaded HW. I hate HW and begrudge it if I'm honest. Just looked at the clock and realised it's gone 5pm, and I've have neither bothered getting dressed nor started the tea (groan).

So you've got 5 and an "it" 5ChildrenAndIt then 5? I like to state the obvious, and although I try hard, my posts are always ridiculously long.

PS - I'm not normally lazy and pyjama clad at this time of day, honestly.

How about you Fivehourssleep? Any DCs? Smile?

I have four too, aged 7-13. 3 girls and a boy.
We also have loads of pets, including two dogs, one of which is at the vets having her broken leg operated on as I type. I am waiting for the phone to ring, while the kids get on with HW and music practice.
It's Friday right?

FiveHoursSleep · 20/02/2015 17:35

Friday night is wine night in this house.
Wine

5ChildrenAndIt · 20/02/2015 18:10

I technically have four too - if you don't count the as yet nameless bump that I am currently lovingly feeding with bonbons and cheesy pasta twists. I changed my user name in a fit of 'oh feck - what have I done - how many???' .

The born-kids are aged between 2 and 10. The first 3 were a '3 under 5' jobby - so frankly the fourth feels like a holiday camp after that! We'll see if 5 tips the balance into madness. It's certainly the nail in the coffin of my lovely 5 seater car.

FiveHoursSleep · 20/02/2015 18:20

DH would have been up for a 5th but I had talked him into a vasectomy by then.
He loves babies but definitely doesn't enjoy the mouthy teen and preteen stages so much.

5ChildrenAndIt · 20/02/2015 19:29

Yes - DH was the biggest cheerleader for number 5!

FiveHoursSleep · 20/02/2015 22:18

Ugh, we've not had a good day. Our dog died after the operation she had on her leg and so everyone is devastated.
Except DS, who wants to know if we can get a new puppy...

SoonToBeSix · 20/02/2015 22:22

I have six need to update my name , will be seven next Saturday . This will be our last, am a bit sad but it wouldn't be the right thing for is to have any more.

5ChildrenAndIt · 21/02/2015 07:28

Oh - that sounds really shit FiveHours - sorry to hear that. Hope you have some space over the weekend to mourn as a family.

Oodbrain · 21/02/2015 07:40

I have 4. 15,13,4,1 . I can't have any more (not recovered from the damage the last one did) but it's probably the right decision as we can't afford another or find space for them to sleep!

Misfitless · 21/02/2015 07:44

Aw Sad FiveHoursSleep. I could tell by your pp (I think) that you weren't expecting that. What a horrible shock for you all. Flowers.

Our old dog is beautiful and the DCs, especially, adore her. They've already asked if, when she dies, we can get a puppy. I think they just can't get their heads around not having a dog, iyswim.

I remember when DC4 was about 3yrs, the subject of dying came up, and her telling me that our dog would never die. I explained gently to her that one day she would, to which she replied "well we'll still keep her, so then we can stroke her and cuddle her!"

I feel for you this morning, having to console them all as they wake up.

I expect your other dog will be missing his/her companion, too.

mammaof4girls · 21/02/2015 07:59

Misfitless · 21/02/2015 08:38

FiveHoursSleep · 21/02/2015 08:58

Thanks for your kind words guys. We were not expecting her to die but these things happen. I'm very upset though, as she was hit by a car a month ago and I've spent a lot of time nursing her through her injuries.
We will get another rescue dog as there are so many that need homes but not for a bit.
We've had tears this morning, except for DD1 , who is 13 who is trying hard not to cry bless her.
Teenagers are new to me and I'm finding this stage quite challenging.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/02/2015 11:24

I'm so sorry about your dog FiveHoursSleep. I hope your DD1 knows that it is ok to cry if she wants. It's an entirely reasonable reaction to the loss of a family member and I do consider pets part of the family.

I cried for a day when my first dog had to be PTS (cancer) and I was 18.

MrsMot · 21/02/2015 11:32

Morning all!
Sorry to hear about your dog Fivehours
Four here, 15,13, 10 and 7. Eldest girl then three boys.
#2's been on a school trip all week - it really throws out the usual dynamic. We're in a major hormone territory with three of them, lots of slammed doors. I'm thinking of bulk buying door handles....

FiveHoursSleep · 21/02/2015 13:35

They've all been giving me cuddles and there have been tears from DD3 (9).
DD1 is off for a sleepover tonight. I'm not hugely enthusiastic about the friend she's staying with or having to drive her there.
But one less is always good and we have no willing family nearby so have to take childcare where we can get it!

disneymum3 · 21/02/2015 14:05

Hello all can I join.
We have 3DC so far, we want more and are leaving it to fate. I have DS1(5), DD(4), and DS2(1). We also have a dog and a cat.

FatSwan · 21/02/2015 14:12

Hi Everyone,

I don't have a large family...at present I only have one. But I respect the hell out of large families. And I have questions. Can I join?

Also, very sorry about your dog Hours Flowers

shelley1977 · 21/02/2015 16:23

Can I join? I have 5 ranging from nearly 20 to 8 and one due next month and then my partner has 2 girls as well who spend weekends with us mostly Smile
