continuing on from the last thread which morphed from a discussion about antisemitism to tracking it globally.

I’ve probably missed people out

to start off with something positive - this was a few yeshiva students response to antisemitism ❤️🕎

“Three Jewish college students from NJ were dancing at Denver International Airport. They said they were motivated to do this after the mass shooting in Australia: “We will not be scared or give in to the darkness, we will only add more and more light.” Happy Hanukkah!”

they’re playing my favourite zusha chanuka song, and one of them looks like DHs nephew who lives in America! Had to do a double take and check it wasn’t him!😆

My dad who is in Australia told me about this. Posters on this thread probably recall that 2 Hospital staff were filmed after Oct 7 boasting about how they would kill any Jewish person who went to their hospital and one claimed he had indeed done so. It's believed that this below may have been connected to that. (My mother was undergoing extensive treatment at a private hospital when the 2 hospital staff were filmed doing that and she requested the staff remove her religion from her records and they said they completely understood why'.

Bondi shooting victim lashes hospital staff over 'terrible' decision

Rosalia was critically injured during the Bondi Beach attack. But she felt her identity was 'ripped' away when her name was changed by hospital staff.

(But on a rather nicer note- dad told me that their neighbours who are Indian and whose parents live in India) asked them to be 'Honorary Grandparents' for Grandparents day at the primary school. THAT's the kind of society I want. Where my white Ashkenazi father is presented as Honorary GP to their Sikh neighbours children. Smile )

Jd Vance also joining in with carefully not mentioning Jews.
the rot is deep

@ChristmasMantleStatue thats shocking 😳

An academic where I work has requested a full exhibition in the ground floor of my building to commemorate the Palestinian 'martyrs'. The explanation along with the photos is focussed on his concept of 'everyone who dies in Palestine is a martyr' with a spot to leave flowers and candles for 'the brave fighters' and I have a lot of confusion about this concept. Obviously if it goes ahead I won't go to work that week because that's super triggering but I am very annoyed - both at my workplace for never prioritising me but also at myself for finding this all so difficult all these years into it. I wish I could either find a way to fight back more loudly 'or' find a way to stop getting so upset about it.

SpuytenDuyvil · 28/01/2026 08:16

I don’t know how you couldn’t find it upsetting @PurpleThistle7. That is really terrible.

Everyone including Hamas? How is your work place not setting themselves up for a discrimination lawsuit/charge of glorifying terrorism.

I hope someone sensible steps in and explains why this isn't appropriate. Its awful that its even being considered @PurpleThistle7

Perhaps you could bring this to the attention of Campaign Against Anti Semitism? At least they could advise you as to what steps could be taken? Good luck 💐

Agree with @HappyFace2025 . Also Michael Rosen has been very vocal at how his university Goldsmiths is actively failing Jewish staff and students. Obviously I'm not sure where you work @PurpleThistle7 but I am sure he would be very interested in your situation.

That's super interesting actually - it's been a bit of a nightmare (not at the same place, I'm in Scotland). Am waiting to see if it's actually approved to go ahead but either way I think I'll reach out as the graffiti and academic talks and endless keffiyehs everywhere is exhausting. Wondering if there's something oddly unique about where I work or if it's just everywhere.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 28/01/2026 12:36

It;s everywhere. In Australia too- articles about how unsafe Jewish staff and students feel on Campus. It's quite terrifying.

I'd reach out to Michael Rosen. He's vocal, is really pushing this issue and of course is a respected voice in academia, media the arts etc.

That's interesting about Michael Rosen. I was under the impression that he was anti Israel/pro Gaza. e.g. a year ago he spoke at a pro Palestinian rally in London.

I'm not sure I'd wait until it is given the go ahead as it might be too late then to stop it. That's why I suggested you contact CAAS for advice.

Edited

I know his history can be a bit chequered. He apparently once wrote (signed perhaps) a letter saying that of COURSE Jeremy Corbyn wasn't anti-semitic. Hmm

I did not know about him speaking at a pro-Palestinian rally though. That would certainly influence how i feel about him.

I found it by googling (as I remembered it) but can't post the link. I've long felt that he has conflicting views to my own and don't buy his books.

The Green Party has selected Hannah Spencer as its candidate for the Gorton and Denton byelection. Not much improvement on Mothin Ali.

Diamond82 · 31/01/2026 00:23

@PurpleThistle7 sorry to hear about what’s happening at work, that must be really difficult. I hope the event is able to be stopped.
I know I’ve previously complained about the pro Palestinians not speaking up for the Iranians. I’ve seen some speak up finally but it seems a bit ridiculous, they platform Hamas for 2 years and now they want to speak out against the Iranian regime. It makes no sense unless they admit they are wrong about being so anti Israel which obviously is never going to happen. On the same subject, Huda Beauty, the one who made the Israel is responsible for 9/11, Oct 7th, World war 1&2 comments has now spoken in support of the Iranian government and then tried to backtrack.
Shes lost about 40k followers and there’s a campaign for her brand to be boycotted and dropped from Sephora. I support this but I’m a bit miffed that when she said those things about Israel a few months ago, no one seemed to care.

Shabbat Shalom all.

People on this thread might be interested in this one over in Feminism. I've posted it under the username FeministsAgainstAntisemitism - as that is the group I have joined and am doing some social media for.

I can't link to any of it without outing myself, but has anyone else noticed a marked increase on social media of people using "Bolsheviks" as a codename for Jews, and then sharing stuff about massacres by Bolsheviks against Muslims and Christians?! Any idea why that is all of a sudden a thing? It's so weird!

Diamond82 · 15/02/2026 19:29

Matt Lucas was videoed being harassed on the London Underground by someone questioning his problem with the Palestinian people and saying free Palestine. He’s never commented publicly about either side, he’s just Jewish.
