It’s actually because Jews control the laser and the media. So if you try JewishSpaceLaser it should work

I know, but I'm not Jewish, so that would be misleading. I also like the idea of an Episcopal space laser. It would be warm and inclusive but a bit fuzzy and flexible on religious doctrine.

Oooh a fuzzy space laser! My favourite kind of space laser.

MissConductUS · 23/05/2024 18:29

The Episcopal space laser would work very slowly. The presiding Bishop would have to form a working group to study targeting and engagement rules, who would then circulate a set of general targeting and engagement principles. This would cause strong but respectful dissent by the more progressive dioceses, and the whole thing would be put on the agenda for the next General Synod.

So there's little chance of it starting wildfires in California or doing anything, which is probably good. I suspect the Jewish Space Laser would be much better managed and more effective.

Also, that hostage video thread is fucking gross

SpuytenDuyvil · 23/05/2024 21:55

I had to hide that thread. I was watching it but it went downhill rapidly. Terrible.

keenforhelp · 23/05/2024 21:59

Just been on there - sickening.

Yup. Absolutely gross. There was another one a few posts up by someone else where they've rated atrocities and the girls in the video didn't score very highly on their fun little scoreboard and I thought "what is wrong with people" but then the more recent one appeared and I've just shut down now. It's too much. I bet they're getting a bunch of "thanks" for it too. It's just plain revolting.

There seems to have been a deluge of wankers over there this week.

The thing that upsets me is not so much the poster(s) themselves, but...is this what people are generally thinking?

25milesfromhome · 23/05/2024 22:24

I don't think it is. It's things people can't say in real life because it's not acceptable to the majority of people and they're disgusting so they use MN as an anonymous outlet.

Humdingerydoo · 23/05/2024 22:36

I don't know. I'm not so sure. We've seen similar posts on here in the past and social media is full of it too. I'm only on here because of the amount of "😂😂😂" comments I saw on every single Facebook post by an Israeli asking if anyone had any information about their loved one on 7th October and the weeks that followed. They'd post a photo of their loved one, and the responses were laughter and just vile. Truly vile. So I think these thoughts aren't as uncommon as they should be.

Unfortunately I agree. Some of the feeds coming up unbidden on my social media apps are shocking.

Would there be pie charts? I feel like there would be pie charts.

Of course, there would be pie charts, along with Gannt charts, Venn diagrams, etc., all in PowerPoint slides. The conservative Bishops would want to include an opening prayer and the liberal Bishops would demand proof that God exists before including the prayer and require that the ESL target list include petrol stations and large SUVs.

We are a rather odd bunch from an ecclesiastical point of view, but we do a nice coffee hour and rummage sale.

Apologies for derailing.

It’s horrific humdingery and no longer a shock to even see these comments, because I am so used to seeing it, which in itself is deeply disturbing. I have friends who are very active on instagram and every so often they do a post with screenshots of the abuse and hate they get and the depths to which people sink is vile.

hillel fuld whose brother Ari died during a terror attack (he was a hero, as he was dying he chased the terrorist and stopped them attacking other people), gets the most disgusting comments about his brother. Nothing is sacred, nothing is off limits. The Bibas brothers posters being desecrated - it’s all just unbelievably vile.

It all sounds rather English, which is funny 😁
this would not be how it goes down in a religious Jewish shul meeting, let’s just say 😆

derail away, humour is the only way to cope in life

It's completely English, and not by accident. When the British colonized North America, they brought the Church of England with them. After the American Revolutionary War was over, the C of E in America became the Episcopal (meaning governed by its bishops) Church and broke ties with the C of E.

The C of E and the successor churches in the former British colonies later formed a loose confederation called the Anglican Communion. We get together once every three years to drink and argue about things. The Anglican Communion is cross with the Episcopal Church because we decided to ordain women (quite cheeky of us, I admit) and then later started ordaining openly gay men and women. The more conservative members, mostly from the African churches, would like to toss us out but can't because we supply most of the money that funds the operation of the Anglican Communion and the charitable operations in Africa.

They dislike us but accept that we're not going anywhere, so it's quite like Mumsnet that way.

Hi all!

Hope you've all been keeping well in my lengthy absence and keeping your strength up!

Unfortunately, there's a lot going on in my life right now - selling house, moving across country, separating with divorce process starting soon after selling and thinking about a change of career over next couple of years.

I'm also a witness in a case and actively assisting the police in their investigations. So far I'm the only witness and hopefully the perp will plead guilty. If not, more stress as I wait for a court date and to be called to testify. 🙈

I've been keeping up with latest developments in the conflict, including the Republic of Ireland's wet drip of a PM recognising a Palestinian State. As you can see from my attachment, the hypocrisy isn't lost on me! The Irish Gov may be influenced by some level of antisemitism in their State, but it's mostly about keeping their party ahead of Provisional Sinn Féin/Provisional IRA aka friends of Hamas. Shameless, cynical politicking. No doubt Eoghan Harris will be personally attacked by some Irish members but that'd just be avoiding the substance of his argument which is historical fact.

As for ICJ, the media isn't accurately representing what the court said. Pay attention to the words of 4 ICJ judges from Israel, Uganda, Germany and I forget where the last one is from. Basically, ICJ order is conditional and doesn't completely prohibit Israeli Defence Force operations in Rafah. Israel said it would comply based on what these 4 judges said which NO other judge actually argued against meaning its the correct interpretation.

Remember the speed the "ICJ ruled its plausible genocide is happening" distortion spread? Except ICJ never ruled that?

This new distortion that the ICJ ordered Israel to stop all military ops in Rafah will spread just as fast. Its also incorrect.

Finally, today I've been speaking to a currently serving Israeli soldier who privately messaged me on another platform where I mostly dissect terrorist propaganda, chiefly PIRAs but Hamas also since this current war started.

I highly doubt quality of debate has improved in my absence. 🤦‍♂️

Just thought I'd hop on to say a few words as I'm away offline for a while again!

Just posted on SA v Israel part 2 in the genocide case thread.

Usual suspects run ahead of the wording of the actual ruling.

That's me done for quite some time yet, unfortunately.

Keep strong!

Cheerio!

@DownNative You're back! Sorry you've been having a tough time. You and your posts have been very missed (I prob had a different name last time you were here).

But am happy to report that absolutely everyone on the CITME Board made-up in your absence and it's really just a space of peace, love and tranquillity now. In fact, we're hoping to have a mass meet-up soon for some good times. Come along, you'll love it.
