I'm sorry to hear how hectic life is at the moment @DownNative . I hope you're ok! Take care of yourself

One more thing! Read Judge Sebutinde's dissenting legal opinion as she eviscerates the ICJ.

@DownNative You're back! Sorry you've been having a tough time. You and your posts have been very missed (I prob had a different name last time you were here).

But am happy to report that absolutely everyone on the CITME Board made-up in your absence and it's really just a space of peace, love and tranquillity now. In fact, we're hoping to have a mass meet-up soon for some good times. Come along, you'll love it.

😂

Brilliant!

I’m glad I could provide a little levity, and the Episcopal Church is very easy to poke fun at. But I know that these threads have a serious purpose, and I appreciate the fact that you’ve welcomed me here to support that purpose. And you’re also a lovely, witty bunch of mums.

@DownNative really interesting posts - thanks for popping back!

I've just been scrolling on twitter. I don't know who this person is - just an ordinary individual I think - but I found this quite stark and chilling:
https://x.com/kolboded/status/1794208809600364590?t=YvKD0tZHTTzHW8bAc3oLPA&s=19

...a lot of truth in there, sadly, neatly summarised in a short twitter thread.

We knew this anyway, but seeing it written down like that is pretty bleak. I still think in England we had the dress rehearsal during the Corbyn years, which has prepared a lot of that fringe movement to extend their very important Jew-baiting work of that time, which they undertook so studiously. And they still have the JVL crowd to prop them up, except they've evolved into 'I'm a Jew and go on the protests', and actively cause division. That they think they're behaviour makes them better socialists blows my mind.

The ideological cohesion aspect is happening already. The Jewish 20-somethings railing very loudly against Zionism and Israel (and not just the Israeli govt) are quite visible now. I'm not sure if it's their genuine ideological belief, or more a fight or flight assimilation thing and the need to collect brownie points as one of the good Jews.

Without wanting to catastrophise, it does feel a lot has changed in a short space of time.

Shavua tov everyone.

hi 👋 downnative- I’m sorry, you have such a lot going on 🫂😳

kol boded isn’t a name, it’s a transliteration of Hebrew words meaning lone voice. I’ve skimmed through his threads and I didn’t really resonate with a lot of what he was writing tbh 🤷‍♀️

@79helene or more a fight or flight assimilation thing and the need to collect brownie points as one of the good Jews. I think it’s this, I’ll be honest. If the nuance is lost, then it is fear speaking, in my opinion.

Very quick post about Israel having to let in agencies to investigate allegations of genocide:

This is NOT effective immediately as such a body has to be mandated by a competent organ of the United Nations.

That means the Security Council, General Assembly and the Human Rights Council. At least one of these.

So, no such body has been mandated so there is no current requirement on Israel in relation to this. Again, misinformation and disinformation has been spread on this.

Attached is President of the ICJ's conflict of interest. Unfortunately, there is no mechanism to remove him and he absolutely should have recused himself.

I take it back, I read more of what he is writing, and I definitely don’t agree with everything, but he does make sense in some things.

I often feel like I'm missing out by not having X 😩 But then I remember the reasons I got rid of it in the first place and I'm all good.

Anyway, we can all rest easy tonight as I've been reliably informed that Israel isn't surrounded by enemies. So that's nice!

EllaDisenchanted · 25/05/2024 21:11

Windows and doors firmly shut tonight, and laundry in, it’s lag ba’omer and there are bonfires everywhere.
The big one that’s always on Meron has been moved to Beit Shemesh this year because the north (and especially Meron) is being pounded by rockets every day.
It’s a good relief from the intensity and sadness of the last few weeks.

Tell that to Kiryat Shmona and Beersheva! Rocket explosion in a children’s playground in Beersheva a couple weeks ago. There was a weird sandstorm that swept in that day (I remember it because the sky was whited out and I was commenting to a UK colleague because if I recall correct they had blue skies) and apparently the kids left the park just before as a result.

Naaaaaah, that's obviously just fake propaganda.

People are so clueless. It's beyond frustrating as they're not even interested in actually informing themselves.

Will you and your family be celebrating lag b'Omer tomorrow? I've completely missed that it's tonight 🙈

I can’t engage with comments that deny there are ongoing attacks, it’s futile. I did hear that two days ago there was another huge barrage of 100 rockets up north, but I don’t remember where I saw it, and I don’t like to post unless it’s from a good source/confirmed, and I can’t be bothered to look now. It’s insane, it’s basically a war up north in everything but name.

Most of my kids are in school tomorrow. I think only the one in a SN class is home, which is interesting as normally they open when other schools are on vacation🧐. Tonight they have gone to neighborhood bonfires with DH. I’ve put my daughter to bed, half cleared up from Shabbat and gone to bed myself. They have bonfires tomorrow after school with their youth groups, they’ve been collecting wood for the last few weeks. DH sent me the pic attached

@Humdingerydoo What you said about your family on another thread was so sad. What is going on up north is so minimised and it’s really not ok. It’s like the refugees from up north are invisible and the effect of living under constant bombardment is ok, just because the army is literally constantly working to try protect civilians. It’s traumatic to run for shelter when there are sirens, rockets are not fireworks, the booms when they are exploded is scary in itself and the shrapnel is no joke. My daughter ran inside from the balcony twice this week because she heard an ambulance siren and she thought it was a rocket siren and we’ve not had in months thank Gd - it’s not nothing

OP posts:
Humdingerydoo · 25/05/2024 22:17

Oh @EllaDisenchanted , I hope your daughter is ok. Was she quite matter of fact about it or was she upset? It's horrifying how quickly these things become their new norm 😔

EllaDisenchanted · 25/05/2024 22:22

quite matter of fact. She ran in and said is it a siren and I said no it’s an ambulance and she went back outside.

There were rockets in central Israel today, no idea how Hamas actually has any rockets left but I guess their tunnels from Egypt are put to good use.

Ready to run to the shelter in the building's basement tonight, if it happens again.
