Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

There are going to be some people really pissed off to see Luciana Berger working back with Labour. So that's excellent news.

Trulywonderful · 15/01/2024 00:43

I thought we all agreed not to talk about the Jewish space laser on here

You know because of the spying lurkers and everything

However as we are on the subject who let Giraffe into the control room. She isn't allowed to know all are soulless zionist sociopath secrets that was agreed at the last new world order meeting.

(Can't believe I feel the need to right this but just incase of any cave lurkers. That was a Joke)

Started already of course

So this is doubly good news

Firstly because I have always quite liked her and she is a strong Jewish voice

Secondly because certain people are already having a massive tantrum about it

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2024 00:55

I’m actually an undercover reporter for the Express hoping to find you plotting something monumentally stupid.

So far all I’ve got on you is a Corbyn calendar Etsy shop while the other lot are trying to crash the economy.

Trulywonderful · 15/01/2024 01:29

Did you have to wear a scappy-doo costume to be undercover with the other lot

Giraffe we have been on to you since the start. No way will you ever work out our real plan the Corbyn calendars are just bait we are using for the master plan. It also involves 20 gallons of chicken soup with matzo balls and the surviving cast of fiddler on the roof.

DownNative · 15/01/2024 13:44

That new ceasefire thread. 🙈

I think most need to stop posting about this conflict as they've no real understanding of these issues. Ceasefires CAN and HAVE resulted in MORE deaths.

A ceasefire, whilst sounding reasonable and a good thing, CAN and HAVE prolonged conflicts.

A quick look at military history would show that.

Thomas Sowell's 2014 article on this is still excellent:

https://eu.desertsun.com/story/opinion/contributors/2014/08/02/thomas-sowell-cease-fires/13533171/

The Desert Sun

In the long run cease-fires cost far more lives, by lowering the cost of aggression.

I guess the Houthis are now the good guys? We live in a weird, weird world.

stomachameleon · 15/01/2024 22:18

@Humdingerydoo the only comfort I take is that I literally know no one else in RL that shares the majority of those opinions.

My Houthi poll was about 25% in favour of the Houthi at one point this morning. I think that was when it was only really seen by those on the Middle East section as no one was posting on it.

Then today it appeared in Active and now it's down to 6%

I think that is worth noting.

To start off was it just so few votes had been made, like 5 people of 20 or something

I did notice earlier who was in the Houthis can be trusted to do as they say camp. The reason why they believe this is very clear to me. So I won't argue with that because I respect other people's beliefs if you get my meaning. Personally I would just let them say their bit and let them be. Unless what they are saying is dangerous or damaging to others in some real way.

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2024 23:13

I wanted to start two polls, one in that section and one in chat. I think this worked as close to that as it could have, really.

Also, re calling out daft opinions - I think it’s important to point out that we shouldn’t be trusting the word of people who have already proved themselves to be untrustworthy. There is a lot of propaganda flying around (on all sides) and a bit more scepticism would be a good thing.

Trulywonderful · 16/01/2024 01:21

At the moment Giraffe's Houthi poll on the conflict board has 369 votes made. However only 80 replies on the thread. Most of those were Giraffe and maybe a dozen others who posted multiple times

I think it is interesting to see just how many people are out there reading these threads but not posting on them.

stomachameleon · 16/01/2024 07:54

@Trulywonderful I think that people are reluctant to join the Middle East threads with sympathetic views to Israel because they get belittled and shouted down....

Ring any bells?

You make it sound like I’m talking to myself.

Have to say I love it when someone tries to belittle me or shout me down. Like, you’ve made an error there….

Sorry Giraffe, I meant it as you posted most because it was your thread and you were replying to people

However don't some people make you feel like you are talking to yourself or at least you might as well be. I think that is why half way through an argument I sometimes just give up explaining things to them and talk to myself or anyone reading. It tends to be a more interesting conversation 😁

"I think it is interesting to see just how many people are out there reading these threads but not posting on them."

Yes, I've been getting a lot of "thanks" from unknown (to me, obviously) usernames. Definitely a lot more people who read than post.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/01/2024 10:57

There is some seriously wacky stuff being posted atm.

Same here and one of them personally messaged me to thank me for my sensible, level headed posts. And for being someone who knows what they're talking about. 👍

The silent majority is out there and don't want the stress of lots of online intimidation.

Thanks, but I'm really just calling it as I see based on a different experience plus knowledge of terrorism in general.

Nothing special about me - certainly not working in any security agency! 🤣

But thanks all the same!

Trulywonderful · 16/01/2024 11:42

Don't sell yourself short

Your knowledge of things is brilliant and much needed sometimes. You can talk about military tactics or military history is such a clear and easy to understand way too. Then relate it to the current conflict. Very helpful on some threads.

DownNative · 16/01/2024 11:47

@Trulywonderful you're very kind!

Everyone here has shown resilience, determination and resolve to counter so many shameful, distorted things.

I salute you all!
