Mumsnet is getting worse

Seriously. Is it the same few people just name changing or is it really this toxic in the UK? There is so much poisonous Jewish hatred on here. I'm not talking hatred of Israel, just vile antisemitism on so many posts now.

I truly think I have to step away before I lose faith in humanity. Why does MN seem to attract so many hateful posters? Maybe it's the anonymity.

I can't keep calling it out. Im exhausted and actually deeply disturbed by it now.

It'd be great if we could discuss the affect of the war on Jewish people worldwide without bringing the IDF into it. Some posters seem truly unable to separate Jewish people and the government of a country that many of have never even visited.

That would be nice!

It's not a great feeling to post about being scared as a Jewish person here in the UK (heightened security at DD's chanukah parties, for example) and have the same old posters weigh in with "WhAt AbOuT tHe IDF tHouGh??"

On that note, it's really come to something when a three-year-old child sees a police man in town and says "Look! Just like at nursery!"

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 11:56

@Humdingerydoo no need to apologise. I just wanted to back up the point I was making. It's not a road I particularly wanted to go down though!

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 11:57

@PurpleChrayne what makes me chuckle is the implication I or anyone else on the threads have a direct dial to Netanyahu and can explain what's going to happen next? Because I can speak unilaterally for everyone....

cauliflowerwaterfall · 15/12/2023 12:11

They expect us to say Bibi will be popping in for a BBQ and rosé later today, I’ll pass on all your messages and I’m sure he’ll change his ways

Really? You think of him as a rosé kinda guy?

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 21:14

Holy moly, what are they on today?!

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 21:24

@Humdingerydoo I take my hat off too you! Bravo!

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 21:30

@stomachameleon ha, thanks. I'm giving up now though. They can't even agree that Hamas are terrorists and that them killing Jews in Europe would be a bad thing, so it all feels a bit pointless.

Pizdietz · 15/12/2023 21:33

There are some deeply sinister things being said, sometimes without the slightest effort to veil them!

Along with the usual rudeness and personal attacks.
I can't be arsed explaining myself for the millionth time to the same people.
It's all a very pointless exercise.

Happy weekend! Flowers

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 21:40

@Humdingerydoo I don't get the ' they agree (Germany) so they are fair game then'

It's another thread we are being bullied off though.

I have complained to Mumsnet. I feel there are a lot of split personalities Hmm and it's not ok.

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 21:48

@Humdingerydoo busted me thinks.....

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 21:54

Hopefully things will calm down a bit now.

As I've mentioned previously, I'm incredibly naive 😅

etmoiandme · 15/12/2023 21:59

Fuck me, that thread looks insane. All power to you, mes amies!

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 22:01

I am going to say what I said on there..

What I don't understand is why on a thread like that our opinions, fears and concerns (legitimate ones) are belittled, ridiculed and minimised.

Why is that ok?

And rather proving our point?

It's because they only care about one thing. It's an obsession. It's been this way for many, many years. I've possibly mentioned it on here already, but the day after 9/11 I had a maths and science teacher who explained to us all (we were 13) that the reason Palestinians were celebrating on the streets and handing out sweets was because of how oppressed they've been by Israel for so long, so they were happy that Jews were finally dying as it would raise awareness for their plight.

Yes, you read that correctly. That's how intense people's obsessions have always been. She didn't talk about the terrorism. She didn't talk about the many deaths. She made it about Jews and Israel. It's literally all they care about. Anything and everything can be made to be about Israel.

Unsurprisingly, shortly after this I started being targeted by pro-Palestinians. My locker was the only one they covered in stickers. I was constantly asked to defend Israel, a country I'd last visited when I was 3 and honestly didn't give a shit about as it wasn't makeup or boys (again, I was 13). I was told Jews should all leave Israel and move to Florida as there are so many Jews there already. People started wearing keffiyeh to school and draping them over me.

The teacher wasn't even given a talking to by the head teacher after my parents complained, and she ended up giving me lower marks than I deserved in four separate subjects. (I'm not originally from the UK so our schools work completely differently and grades given by individual teachers without any outside monitoring or input).

Absolute obsession.

Towerofsong · 16/12/2023 19:32

I asked CST for advice on the antisemitism on MN and that it is not being moderated properly. They referred me to the Mumsnet Netiquette guidelines but said that specific comments could be screenshotted and sent to them to investigate.

I hate that we get followed over to this board. There are things really bothering me but I cannot say a word because the antisemites would be reading and gloating. There seems to literally be no safe social media space to talk.

Cropcycle · 16/12/2023 19:37

Towerofsong. Good idea to have asked CST. Just maybe (probably wishful thinking though ), if MN know concerned posters are referring examples of their poor moderation on to the Jewish security agency who deal with antisemitism, they might just be a bit more proactive. A friend of mine got a huge amount of help from when she came up against antisemitism in a women’s group she goes to.

Cropcycle · 16/12/2023 19:39

That should read ‘Got a huge amount of help from CST’

noblegiraffe · 16/12/2023 19:40

I read some stuff out today to DH and his response was, and I quote “you have got to be fucking shitting me”.

Which was a useful reset tbh, to get a view from someone who hasn’t just got used to seeing this crap every day. What’s being posted is appalling.

stomachameleon · 16/12/2023 19:48

@Towerofsong that's good to know and I hope Mumsnet are taking note!

Hi, just checking in to say that I've stepped away from the ME boards for a bit as I was finding the levels of anti-semitic hatred too troubling, and this is as someone who is not Jewish.
The worst part is how so many of the posts are allowed to stand - as you have all rightly pointed out, the absolute normalisation of it.
I do realise that MN's moderation policy is reactive and relies on reporting, but I frankly don't think it's working well for that board. Some of the posts I've seen could and probably should be reported to Prevent.

Again, I am so sorry that you are all having to endure this - in your lives, and on social media. It isn't right.
