Seriously. Is it the same few people just name changing or is it really this toxic in the UK? There is so much poisonous Jewish hatred on here. I'm not talking hatred of Israel, just vile antisemitism on so many posts now.

I truly think I have to step away before I lose faith in humanity. Why does MN seem to attract so many hateful posters? Maybe it's the anonymity.

I can't keep calling it out. Im exhausted and actually deeply disturbed by it now.

You're being a bit unfair.

There are also disgusting and ignorant things being said today by regular posters.

😂

SomeCatFromJapan · 24/11/2023 16:42

Some of your posts are so sad and difficult to read. Sending love and strength to all who need it.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 20:40

@Humdingerydoo you and your loud voice....

I know, I really need to learn to keep it down.

Tonight has been... Interesting. I'm about to give up

Earlier the boards were fairly quiet. Just got back from work had a peek and boy they are out of the woodwork tonight

Who has been poking the useful idiots and Hamas supporters whilst I was gone?

Remember also that some are not worth arguing with, especially when they start with the barely hidden tropes. You won't get through to those ones and it encourages them.

I try to pick my battles but saying it's a war of Jews against Muslims seems a bit too dangerous for someone to be implying without it being challenged 😳 Maybe I should start keeping Shabbat just to avoid MN for a day 😅

Humdingerydoo · 24/11/2023 21:08

Argh I definitely need a break. A not so very great fuck-up on my part. Will stick to just lurking on that board for a bit 😳🙈

Cheers! Nice to know. 👌

How did your conversations with your husband go, out of curiosity?

IIRC he was agreeing with you (I think it was you anyway)! There was posters claiming Hamas are freedom fighters actually not terrorists(!) and according to them that's how all NI Catholics viewed PIRA. He always just saw them as bog-standard terrorists! I think you were probably saying similar? He gets a bit irate because he's seeing a romanticised 'freedom fighting' view of that period developing amongst younger folk on the far left that's directly feeding from this idea of a Gaza/NI equivalence, which he thinks is bull too.

I purposely haven't looked today- has it been dreadful? Should I have a peak over in the lion's den?

No, don't bother. It's not worth it. There are too many of them, although one poster seems to think Jews (not pro-Israelis, Jews) have the loudest voices on MN. This was news to a few of us, I think.

etmoiandme · 24/11/2023 21:33

@Humdingerydoo Jeez, if only we did! Hope you're OK.

SomeCatFromJapan · 24/11/2023 21:41

Bloody hell just how much mental work must it take to put an Israel-is-the-bad-guy slant on every. single. thing. that gets posted. I'm actually tired just reading it.
And what was the term about Hamas? Sneaking regard?

etmoiandme · 24/11/2023 22:06

Put on the hard hat and had a peak and oh there’s the Grayzone back! It's a curious (and very funny) thing that so many seem to have recently discovered that state-funded propaganda is a thing. And obviously it's the worst thing ever because only Israel apparently do it, hasbara yada yada. Yet there's an unrelenting stream of links to articles and journalists connected to Sputnik and Grayzone. It’s the most delicious irony.

Xenia · 24/11/2023 22:13

I'm not even Jewish and have found it exhausting (I just happen to support Israel. I am Christian). I just cannot believe the numbers on the other side. I now see for the first time how the Labour party was rent asunder by this.

SomeCatFromJapan · 24/11/2023 22:30

I really don't think it's most MNetters though, it is a tiny group.
Most people would much rather a good parking thread, I suspect.

Hasbara is different though, because Israel provided handbooks with things to say and things to avoid. So that's obviously worse. Like, they didn't just tell their people what to say, they wrote it down!

Holy moly, I genuinely love myself a good parking thread! And I don't even drive. I also enjoy a good MIL or SIL bashing thread. I'm not picky, really. I know I'm currently quite active on the ME board but my heart belongs in AIBU

25milesfromhome · 25/11/2023 00:03

The CST thread…I just cannot…

etmoiandme · 25/11/2023 00:05

@Humdingerydoo The uploading of the handbook for scrutiny yesterday nearly had me crying laughing. Because, in such a tragic shitshow these little nuggets are required relief.

If the new thread that just popped up isn't zapped I think I'm done here. It's gone way beyond anything even remotely acceptable now.

etmoiandme · 25/11/2023 00:09

@25milesfromhome Genuinely gobsmacked it's even worse than her 'you've all been indoctrinated by your evil Zionist parents' thread.

Humdingerydoo · 25/11/2023 00:12

Yeah, it's a bit sick. That's the third thread she's said this stuff on that I've seen 🙈 She's adamant she's right. She clearly has no idea what CST actually is or how it works. And obviously also not how needed it is. My DC used to go to a Jewish nursery and they had minimum two guards posted outside at all times. At a nursery 🥴 And also, the funding CST gets from the government is nowhere near enough!! We paid an absolute fortune for security at nursery and pay even more for it now at school.

Yes, that's the kind of thing I was saying and polls certainly do show most young people in the Republic of Ireland don't understand the Troubles, how it went or who took the most lives.

So, they romanticise PIRA and then claim its not offensive, including to those of us in Northern Ireland who suffered at the hands of PIRA.

This attitude has definitely spilled over into the same attitudes towards Hamas which is why I took apart so many posts trying to suggest PIRA were freedom fighters. It's just rubbish on any angle. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, sneaking regarders is the term and originated in Northern Ireland to describe those who claim not to support PIRA but whose actions suggest strongly they do.

Useful idiots are often taken in by sneaking regarders, e.g. Jeremy Corbyn. John McDonnell was less successful in hiding his sneaking regardism yet you'll still find some Labourites who like to ignore it.

The thread on support for Jewish businesses is clearly being derailed by Auvergne very deliberately. MN really need to improve their training and look at their policies again as they're not deleting those posts.

Conflict in the Middle East section is an absolute mess as a result of MN team not doing due diligence. 🤷‍♂️

SomeCatFromJapan · 25/11/2023 08:13

@DownNative can I say, I've admired your excellent and well-informed analysis throughout the first weeks of the conflict.

I completely agree that the mods aren't doing a diligent enough job of that section, whether through ignorance, agreement or just the volume of unsavoury posts I don't know. I'm guessing as more and more reasonable people stop posting for their own sanity, there will be less reports and it will become more of a cesspit echo chamber.

PurpleChrayne · 25/11/2023 18:33

Always a joy to switch my phone on after Shabbos and see how many new threads OhLaLa has started on the Conflict in the ME section 😂😭

Honestly, I need to stay away from that area of the forum.

Shabbat was very nice. We went to the shul we used to go to before a mild broiges before the High Holidays forced us to the one further away. It was nice to see familiar faces, and the broiges now seems insignificant with everything that's happening.

Now I have to go and wash/tidy up.
