@oliviagrace2307 Lovely scan! Congratulations! Sorry to hear you’ve not been well! It’s so rubbish especially when it’s gorgeous outside and everyone else is enjoying it and you’re stuck feeling horrible! Hope it passes soon and the wait until your next scan goes quick!

@Natty2 Hope the headaches go soon! Feel better!

@DippyDuck19 Are you going by your measurement dating now rather than your actual IVF dates? Hope you and your partner manage to escape your parents and enjoy some time solo in Cornwall! I always start getting wound up by my dad on day 3 😂

@AnnieStar12 Yeah I enjoy going for scans too! God knows how many I’ll get post 20 weeks! 😅 I think I’ll have my next one around the 18th-22nd then it’ll be 2 weeks until my 20 week scan. Really glad she’s growing away nicely! Mines right on track rather than measuring ahead - she’ll probably be a short ass like me and her daddy!

@summerchild92 Lovely scan! Glad everything is as it should be! Hope the next 3 weeks go quickly for you! 😊

@HopefulllHolly at my 12 week scan they said they'd go by that now. So that's what I'm going with. I've got an appointment with the consultant next Thursday so will double check with them.

My dad is a nightmare! Soo set in his ways about what he eats, and just wants to walk around shops (not buying anything!).

I wake up really sore and I was saying the safest position is the left side. They keep saying I don't understand why you can't lie on your back. There wasn't any rules like this when I was pregnant (over 30 years ago 🙄). They keep making the same comments about limiting caffeine intake. I snapped this morning! Said I'm pregnant with a little 4% chance miracle, I'm not taking any risks to not have a baby by the end of it. DP said that was a bit harsh but am just so fed up! (Lack of sleep certainly isn't helping my mood too)

DippyDuck19 · 06/08/2024 10:06

@summerchild92 congratulations on your scan and seeing the heartbeat 💗

HopefulllHolly · 06/08/2024 12:13

@DippyDuck19 Ah I guess makes sense to go with what they are using! Weird they are using their dates and not yours though - I thought they were meant to go off IVF dates as they don’t like you going over 40 weeks because of the placenta, so was more accurate. Don’t suppose it matters if you’re measuring ahead though!
Haha your dad sounds like mine - but mines less fussy about food and just really opinionated and likes baiting people to get in to debates with him and then thinks he’s right (had a massive row with him at Christmas because he said gender pay gaps don’t exist because he’s never seen them at work before 😂😂). I always lose my head with him after too much time.
That would really pee me off if my parents were saying that kind of stuff to me. The world has changed in 30 years and medicine has advanced massively (and fertility is one of the fastest sectors to grow). Thankfully my mum is probably more of a worrier about baby than me, she’s stocked up her whole house with caffeine and alcohol free and worries about everything. It’s very sweet!
I really feel you on the bad sleep - I have one really sore hip to the point I’m debating seeing a physio about it. I’m a back sleeper and it’s so hard trying to correct it. I keep waking up on my back and l panic but apparently as long as you’re falling asleep on your side it’ll be ok? I wasn’t sure if it still mattered if we had an anterior placenta - wishful thinking! I’ve kind of adopted a half on side half on stomach position at the moment though which takes some of the pressure off my left hip! 🥲 Prayers for us that it doesn’t get worse!!

@DippyDuck19 @HopefulllHolly maybe time to get a pregnancy pillow to help with sleep
position? I’m gonna get mine out of the loft soon as I loved it in my last pregnancy - can really help to sleep comfortably on your side. I’m a front on my tummy sleeper! I’m still comfortable doing that for now, even with my growing bump, but I know I’ve not got long left until it becomes impossible to sleep that way! Not looking forward to having to change sleep position.

I've still not told anyone at work, and had to go to the office today so wore a baggy shirt. I thought it was very discreet. But I met a friend after work and as soon as she saw me she said “omg are you pregnant?!” Now I’m worried everyone at work must have thought the same thing! I plan to tell them later this month anyway, but worried they must all be thinking it anyway.

Fluffyted · 06/08/2024 22:05

@AnnieStar12 which pregnancy pillow do you have? I'm so undecided about what one / what shape to get.
Ohhh that's a shame if everyone is guessing before you've told them. Hopefully it's just your one work colleague that noticed! 🤞🏼

I'm a back sleeper and have been forcing myself to sleep on my left side since 12 weeks and my hip is now not loving me! @DippyDuck19 @HopefulllHolly these pains aren't looking good for later in pregnancy 🙈😂

@summerchild92 congratulations on your scan!!! So exciting. Such a good feeling seeing the little baby all snug in there isn't it.

@Natty2 awww sounds like you've had a rubbish time! I hope the nausea & headaches get better soon - these side effects suck!! (Though totally happy to be in this position)

@oliviagrace2307 aww your baby scan picture!! 😍😍 how sweet .. congratulations on the perfect 12 week scan - amazing news! Such a lovely feeling, so magical.

DippyDuck19 · 06/08/2024 22:19

@AnnieStar12 I have a pregnancy pillow. It helps as was in much more pain beforehand. I just need to sleep on my front which isn't going to happen 😂

HopefulllHolly · 07/08/2024 07:32

@AnnieStar12 Ive already got a pregnancy pillow 😅 and I bought another one last night at 3am when I was struggling which is apparently a good one for stopping back sleeping. Fingers crossed!
Awww bless you - I know you must be anxious telling work but it’ll only be a 5 min conversation and then you can relax.

@Fluffyted Yeah not a good sign if we’re already feeling like old ladies! 😅 Hopefully we get used to it!

Thanks for your lovely messages 😘 @HopefulllHolly @AnnieStar12 @Fluffyted

Im starting to feel more excited now. I bought some little baby vests with Stitch on them as my DS loves Lilo and Stitch so hoping he will be excited to see the baby in them!

Congrats @summerchild92 on your scan too! Fingers crossed the next few weeks will fly by!

Quick question for ladies on the group expecting baby with other children - what do you recommend buying new or keeping? I'm def going to order a new cot mattress, bassinet mattress bedding, new bottles, dummies etc for this baby but keep the cot frames from my DS who is 2.5. I also have his travel system which is in really good condition which we have stored away, is that ok to reuse if the car seats have been from a sibling not too long ago? More just around safety isn't it and knowing where it's been?

AnnieStar12 · 07/08/2024 12:13

@oliviagrace2307 yeah, I will reuse almost everything, my DD never really slept in the next to me crib, so might even keep that same mattress. But I know my mum will probs panic about it and buy me a new one!
Car seats are definitely safe to use again. I think the reason you’re told not to get second hand ones is to be sure they’ve not been in any accidents. But as it’s your own you know where it’s been. I’ve lent out so much baby stuff so I need to try remember who I’ve lent stuff too so I can get it back in time!
have you already told your little one about the new baby? We’re waiting until another 6 weeks or so before telling ours as I think she’ll be really excited and then have such a looong wait. But it’s tough as she likes jumping all over me!

Natty2 · 07/08/2024 13:35

Hi all,
Hope it's ok to share this mornings scan! Exactly 12 weeks tomorrow and baby measuring just where they should be.
They were not playing ball at first so had to do several hip thrusts to wake them up 😂
Just waiting for the screening results next and will also book a private 16 week scan.
So amazed at the difference from our 9+3 scan!

DippyDuck19 · 07/08/2024 15:45

@Natty2 good news on the scan! Lovely little photo! I love how they change soo much from 7-12 weeks and now look like a proper little baby!

I'm having an anxious and hormonal day. We decided to go for a woodland walk but lots of steep steps. I stupidly wore my Apple Watch (which i haven't been wearing) and my HR was 175 at one point. My usual HR since being pregnant has been 90-100 and increases up to 130 when walking which is why I don't usually wear my watch. Took a while for it to settle and now I'm worried I've done something wrong. Been a little crampy too but I'm hoping that's just the exercise! We stopped at a cafe and i just sat there crying and haven't stopped blubbering since 🤦🏻‍♀️ am soo tempted to book a scan for reassurance but there's nothing local! 😢

AnnieStar12 · 07/08/2024 15:53

@DippyDuck19 aww, poor you. Hope you're okay.

I really don't think there's anything to worry about. In fact, doing some exercise that raises your heart rate is a positive thing! Now I'm past the danger 12 week zone, I want to start doing some gentle jogging to make sure I don't loose all my fitness!

DippyDuck19 · 07/08/2024 15:59

@AnnieStar12 thanks. I did have a quick Google and there used to be guidelines of not letting your HR go above 140 during exercise but they've scrapped this advice. Said increased HR with exercise is fine but just to make sure you're not getting dehydrated or low blood sugars. So munched on a chocolate brownie and drunk a load of water.

oliviagrace2307 · 07/08/2024 16:32

Thank you @AnnieStar12 it's so helpful to know and it makes total sense when you know it's only being used before by your own babies! Haha aww bless you I am the same I had so many friends had babies last year I lent out my angel care bath seat, baby wraps etc time to be asking for bits back haha 😄

Aww bless your DD, she will be so excited to have a little sibling! My husband tried telling my DS about the baby and has said "There's a baby in mummys tummy" and he seemed to get it when we asked "Where's the baby?" And he'd point to my tummy but then he got a bit confused and started pointing to his own tummy saying "Baby!" And then my husband's tummy and saying "Baby!" 😆 so I think im gonna hold off a few more weeks before trying to explain again. I'm hoping to get a little book to read about being a brother for him. He LOVES baby dolls and caring for them at nursery like feeding them bottles and going "night night" so hoping that's a good sign and he will be interested when the baby gets here. He will have just turned 3 by the time baby is born. How old is your DD?

oliviagrace2307 · 07/08/2024 16:35

Congratulations @Natty2 what a beautiful baby scan so clear!! It makes such a difference seeing how far they have come along! I also made same mistake of thinking our one was being quiet in our scan then they went WILD and jiggled about the place! How are you feeling? Must be such a weight off having reached this milestone.

oliviagrace2307 · 07/08/2024 16:36

Thank you @Edf 😊 it def feels better after having the scan! How are you doing? I hope you are all okay and bubba is doing well?

oliviagrace2307 · 07/08/2024 16:39

Aww @DippyDuck19 sending you hugs I'm sorry you're having an anxious day. We are growing little humans and it will take its toll some days so it's okay to have a cry. Hopefully just rest this evening and take a load off, it can be a lot on our bodies even walking but honestly I don't think the HR is an issue I think it's just our bodies working a bit harder with everything else going on.

DippyDuck19 · 07/08/2024 16:50

@oliviagrace2307 thank you! I think the lack of sleep and insensitive comments from my parents over the past few days has taken its toll and probably just needed to let it all out! Am going to take it easy as am really achy! And pop the Apple Watch away!

AnnieStar12 · 07/08/2024 16:56

@oliviagrace2307 same! My DD will have just turned 3 when baby arrives. She also LOVES babies, like she's totally obsessed when she sees them and plays with her dolls a lot. That's why I think she'll be so excited (and confused!). That's so sweet how your DS responded - it's just so abstract isn't it the idea there's a baby in the tummy. We have a heavily pregnant friend who came over recently and we talked about baby being in her tummy, so hopefully that's some prep. Let me know if you find any good books explaining it for that age.

oliviagrace2307 · 07/08/2024 17:57

@DippyDuck19 The last thing you need is insensitive comments from parents I'm sorry 😞 def chill, eat some nice food if you're up to it and tomorrow is a fresh day so with a bit of sleep you'll start to feel a bit better.

oliviagrace2307 · 07/08/2024 18:04

Aww they are at a really lovely age @AnnieStar12 and good for them to see other pregnant ladies and babies. My SIL is only 7 weeks ahead of me in pregnancy and it will be the first cousin for DS in the family so I'm hoping he will acclimatise to a new baby joining the family before his own sibling gets here. I will def share any book recommendations I find! Hopefully he will get to feel the baby kick etc a bit later on. There's nothing really to show yet it just looks like my bump is overindulgence lol it will be nice when it forms into more of an 'obvious' bump
