IVF - 1 follicle - any success stories

Hi,

I’ve recently started ivf with create fertility and have found this site and shared stories so helpful so hoping for some positive stories from similar circumstances :(.

I am 32 with low afc and AMH. I am on day 9 of stimms and only have 1 follicle at 11mm and another at 7mm we have increased dose and will scan on Friday but am feeling so disappointed. The doctors haven’t advised to cancel and we don’t know whether we should cancel and try again next cycle but estimated cost for canx with meds and scans would be another £2.5k which we can’t afford.

are there any success stories out there from women who have conceived from one mature follicle and egg :(.

thank you!

Thank you - I have a AMH of 0.8 so crazy low and only 4-5 follicles on a scan. My canx cycle I had only one follicle so decided to cancel and try again this cycle, hoping for that one good egg. I am doing the mild ivf protocol - if you have any questions or just want a chat feel free to message :) - good luck on your journey x

Wow thank you so much for this! What an amazing share ❤️ really gives me hope! I want to keep hopeful but realistic but it’s good to know there are success stories with one egg! In the end we only need one ! X

@Msmith100 @Sunflower360 morning ladies, just wanted to check in and see how are you both getting on? X

hi @Hope12345678 just catching up on your story, v best of luck!!
I had my embryo transfer yday after collecting 6 eggs and 4 fertilising I only ended up with one day 5 and nothing to freeze. I feel absolutely gutted so I understand the feeling of holding out for one. Not sure where to go from here if it doesn’t work! 😣

Hope12345678 · 08/10/2023 16:28

@Blossomofhope thank you for your reply! Tbh that is my hope, one day 5! My latest scan showed 5 follicles and only 3 are growing so keeping all fingers and toes crossed that I get at least 1 or 2 good eggs - I keep telling myself it only takes one but trying to be prepared of it going the other way too as I don’t want to be too hopeful. Who are you with for your IVF journey? Are you doing a fresh or frozen transfer? X

OP posts:
Hope12345678 · 08/10/2023 16:29

@Blossomofhope as they say it only takes one good egg and to get a day 5 is amazing, I worry about getting left with nothing 🥺. Sending positive energy your way ✨

@Hope12345678 oh I so hope it works for you!!
Thanks so much. I did a fresh transfer and I’m with sims in Ireland. It’s such a struggle the whole thing! I’m trying to mentally prepare myself to have to do it again!

Hope12345678 · 16/10/2023 23:30

@Blossomofhope hi, I just wanted to check on to see how your 2ww was going.

Our 1 egg made it to day 3 11 cells, we couldn’t believe it and had our transfer yesterday 😬, these two weeks are going to be so hard but trying to keep positive and watch all the feel good movies for the happy hormones - hoping it helps x

OP posts:
Blossomofhope · 17/10/2023 07:56

@Hope12345678 ah amazing you had your transfer. Very best of luck. Ya we started a new series on Netflix during tww. How do you feel?

Im doing ok. 10dp5dt today and tomorrow I have the blood test at the clinic. I’ve had no symptoms and started spotting a little since yesterday so I’m definitely expecting it’s failed. I tested yesterday and it was negative. I think we’ll go again with one cycle in between. Obviously dreading it but feel like I’ve to just try again. Just want to end this year on something positive.

Hope12345678 · 17/10/2023 10:26

@Blossomofhope it could be implantation spotting? Keeping fingers crossed for you 🤞🏽.

I know what you mean - if this cycle doesn’t work we’re going to save to do another cycle (which will be our last try). It’s just so expensive we definitely can’t afford to do multiple cycles and tbh emotionally/mentally it can feel so consuming.

I had a few twinges but I think it’s just because my body has been through so much as egg collection was not long ago and then we did the fresh transfer on day 3.

x

How you getting on guys @Hope12345678 @Blossomofhope

Hope12345678 · 28/10/2023 19:56

Hi @iwoulddoanythingforlove, I have had a positive HPT BUT my beta hcg was low so it’s not looking good tbh. I am having another test done on Monday to check if the numbers double but hcg is borderline and closer to the number for a chemical so I am not holding my breath ☹️.

Hoping for the positive for you. 🙏✨ here for you if you need to chat @Hope12345678

Blossomofhope · 29/10/2023 21:34

@iwoulddoanythingforlove not much of an update from me - first cycle failed and it’s been a real emotional rollercoaster over the last two weeks. But feeling a bit better now, going to go on holiday and take a break til next year.

how are you getting on?

Blossomofhope · 29/10/2023 21:34

@Hope12345678 ohh best of luck

Hope12345678 · 30/10/2023 07:32

@Blossomofhope thank you.

I am so sorry to hear your cycle didn’t work.

You’re in a constant state of limbo with IVF of will it won’t, is it or isn’t it which is so emotionally draining.

I have struggled all weekend with my low beta number and am really worried about having a chemical/miscarriage. I had a miscarriage 3 years ago and it was traumatising so I’m so scared to go through it all again.

I think more than likely it hasn’t worked and will probably take a break and try one last cycle.

here if you need to chat and hope you have a lovely holiday ❤️❤️

iwoulddoanythingforlove · 30/10/2023 10:26

@Blossomofhope Sorry to hear it didn’t work out this time, a break and holiday sounds perfect. You deserve it.

my first cycle was cancelled before retrieval as I wasn’t responding to meds. They said I can try again & have a follow up tomorrow. Hope they still say I can try again!

Thinking of you too @Hope12345678 hoping for the best outcome for you. Here for you as well if you wish to share or need any support xx

@Hope12345678 I just wanted to check how you got on in the end?

I have a very low AMH (1.1) and had a scan at Create today with only 1 follicle. I'm feeling like it's "game over" for me but hoping to understand how others have got on in similar positions.

That’s good you had a follicle! Are you gong to do ivf?
I just did a mild ivf cycle, 1 follicle, we tried but it didn’t fertilise :(
They said egg was mature & sperm good but can’t give me any other reason.
annoyingly they didn’t do ICSI so I’m just left wondering if that would have helped. even though we paid for it they didn’t feel we needed it. X

Hope12345678 · 04/04/2024 07:15

@twoforwardandtwoback hi, the cycle actually ended in a chemical. It was like a normal period so nothing traumatic and was easily dealt with at home, I tried to conceive as soon as the bleeding stopped and fell naturally pregnant after years as prior to the IVF nothing was happening (unfortunately this did end in another very early miscarriage).

I am now 7 weeks pregnant and going in for a viability scan today and fell pregnant naturally first cycle after the miscarriage.

I do feel like in my case the IVF has woken up my reproductive system and hoping this is our sticky bean!

best of luck and here if you have any questions x

Thank you both for coming back to me.

@iwoulddoanythingforlove sorry to hear that your egg didn't fertilise. I definitely think that ICSI would help you next time.

We did ISCI twice in 2022 - once after 6 eggs were returned, and once after 1 egg was retrieved. Both cycles we got an embryo but had one chemical and one miscarriage at 8 weeks. My appointment yesterday was just a monitoring scan as part of moving to Create so it would be a different cycle if we did ivf - I was just feeling so deflated yesterday - it's helpful to hear of others going through to egg retrieval with 1 follicle.

@Hope12345678 I'm so sorry to hear you've been through those losses since your last post but so pleased to hear of your latest pregnancy. I hope all goes well for you at your scan today!

How are you finding create? Where were you before? Yes everyone says you only need 1 egg, but no I want more! But definitely workable, I think they just go mild on stims if you’re likely to have less than 4 follicles. How long did you normally leave in between cycles, I’m worried to leave mine so long as I have low AMH anyway xx

twoforwardandtwoback · 04/04/2024 08:22

@iwoulddoanythingforlove I've only had one appointment with Create so far with the nurse who did my scan - she seemed nice, I have the follow up with the doctor today. My previous cycles were with Herts & Essex - who have been really good but they don't do natural modified ivf.

So my timeline has been:

  • Aug 2021: AMH 4.6, about to start IVF with Bourne Hall but really didn't like them and then I fell pregnant naturally.
  • Jan 2022: miscarriage at 11 weeks, then I think we were a bit naive thinking maybe another natural pregnancy would happen soon...
  • Jun 2022: IVF cancelled due to lack of response to stims
  • Jul 2022: IVF unable to start due to high FSH
  • Aug 2022: IVF 6 eggs, 1 3AA embryo, chemical pregnancy
  • Oct 2022: IVF 1 egg, 1 day 3 transfer, miscarriage at 8 weeks
  • Jan 2023: natural pregnancy just as I was about to start another cycle (duo stim) which ended in TFMR at 16 weeks
  • Oct 2023: AMH 1.1
  • Jan 2024: another natural pregnancy just as we were about to start a duo stim cycle which ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks.

So tbh I'm at a bit of a loss on what to do next. I know I'm very short of time and probably need to move quickly with ivf.

We've also joined a waiting list for DE - not sure if it's a route we will follow but I feel like it was sensible to join the waiting list whilst we explored other routes and I did more research on DE.

Thank you for listing your journey, it’s so hard to know what to do but I think if feasible then it’s worth trying everything within your means so you don’t wonder why. I’m with ARGC, I like the thorough testing which was definitely needed in my case, but it still came to nothing. They just let me know today they think I have less than 5% chance of success ivf or natural… she said 1-2%

she has suggested hycosy test & the chromosome one to see if I would have any issues naturally anyway. I feel at a loss too now, not that I expected a miracle from my phone call - maybe just something more positive or hope to try!

hope your follow up appt went well today xx
