Belfast Fertility Clinics

does anyone here have any experience with fertility clinics in Belfast. For background my husband and I have been TTC for 2 years now and my dr has referred me to gynae but the waitlist is currently 3 years. My husband has booked for his semen analysis and if it comes back ok I assume the nhs will just tell us we have to wait on my gynae appointment so I was going to look into going private.

I have seen In Ovo do an IVF package for £5k has anyone with experience of them experienced are there many hidden costs on top of this please?

@TTC12 ah, very good! I'm with TFP so was just wondering! All the very best with your FET in due course!

TTC12 · 26/02/2024 18:37

@Patientlywaiting37 thank you! Sorry this thread has got so long, I can’t Remeber what stage you are at? How did you find TFP?

TTC12 · 28/02/2024 18:03

@Sunshine180 i hope today went well!

Sunshine180 · 28/02/2024 19:32

@TTC12 it went well thanks! The dr seemed happy with how I was progressing so said just to carry on with the dose I’m on. I didn’t get told a number of follicles or anything but seemed to have a good few at 12, 10 and 8mm which seems positive at this stage.

did you get an update from your clinic today on how your embryos are progressing?

@Sunshine180 Aw that’s brilliant news!! When is your next scan? It’s a relief to know they are going the right direction! How are you feeling?

we got 12 frozen, which we are delighted with!!It’s been the hardest few days waiting though!

Sunshine180 · 29/02/2024 06:54

@TTC12 yes was happy to know it’s actually working! Next scan is on Monday with potential collection on Wednesday so fingers crossed we can stick to that plan.

12 frozen is amazing news!! Congratulations! That is amazing there was nearly no drop off, hopefully that means great quality! Do you know when you will be doing your FET yet?

OP posts:
TTC12 · 29/02/2024 11:35

@Sunshine180 Aw I hope all goes on time for you! I think they usually have a good idea from the first scan how it will go- so even if it does move I’m sure it will only be a day either side!

Yes hopefully can proceed now with FET with this cycle, but just waiting on clinic to confirm details!!

Sunshine180 · 29/02/2024 17:44

@TTC12 oh that’s good you hopefully won’t have to wait too long then. Fingers crossed!

@TTC12 sorry, missed your msg. So far I've nothing bad to say about TFP, everyone has been lovely, they're very responsive on the portal and the information has been good. Congratulations on getting 12 embryos - that's amazing news!

TTC12 · 04/03/2024 11:54

@Sunshine180 hope todays scan went well!

Sunshine180 · 04/03/2024 11:59

OP posts:
TTC12 · 04/03/2024 14:19

@Sunshine180 thats brilliant news! How are you feeling? Not long to go now!!

Yes so on estorgen tablets now, and have a scan next Tuesday, then if all well the transfer will be sometime the week after… so hopefully in around 2 weeks time!!

Sunshine180 · 04/03/2024 15:12

@TTC12 home and back in bed after my egg collection. The whole experience was completely fine! Just went to sleep during the procedure and woke up when it was all done. Got 19 eggs and am still on track to do a fresh transfer so really happy with the outcome

TTC12 · 06/03/2024 11:59

@Sunshine180 that’s fantastic news!! Take it easy now, all the hard work is done! A brilliant egg count!! Glad it all went well!!

I assume you get an update tomorrow on fertilisation? Are you ivf or ICSI?

Sunshine180 · 06/03/2024 12:11

@TTC12 yes actually feeling completely fine now but just going to stay in bed the rest of the day! All the nurses and everything were so lovely really felt well looked after.

yes have to ring for an update in the morning, I’m so impatient with it all just want to know now!! lol. We’re doing ICSI as we’re having treatment due to male factor. Which did you do?

OP posts:
TTC12 · 06/03/2024 12:47

@Sunshine180 thats brilliant! I hope I don’t make it as far as RFC, but good to know if not successful with my current round, I’m on waiting list! Yeah definitely take it easy today, and enjoy being looked after lol!

yeah I'm also so impatient, really wish we didn’t have to wait for a FET, it feels like this week has dragged and still another 2 to go!! Also ICSI due to Male factor.

Were you trying long before IVF?

Sunshine180 · 06/03/2024 13:13

@TTC12 hopefully you won’t need it but good to know the option is there also, especially as it’s a funded round.

I know the nurse told me today she would have to go and check with my consultant over whether to freeze all or not because it was quite a high number but he was happy enough with fresh so I was a bit relieved. Just hate all the waiting. You just have to try and distract yourself with other things but I know it’s hard when it’s all you can really think about!!

we’re coming up to the 3 year mark now but we left it a long time before getting any investigations done as we just naively kept thinking oh it will happen soon so we’ve only started with contacting our dr and tests etc in June 23. What about yourself?

OP posts:
TTC12 · 09/03/2024 15:14

@Sunshine180 sorry I missed this message! How are you getting on? Hopefully you recovered pretty quickly! Did many fertilise? Not long now to your transfer!!! Do you have to take progesterone or how does it work for a fresh?

we contacted Dr Sept 22, and only just on waiting list for RFC, although have all the tests done and had to go to Craigavon fertility clinic first, to then be referred to RFC… just feels like it’s taking so so long with NHS… I had also all the tests done privately to, but it takes so long in between each appointment on NHS! We had been trying 2 years at that point.

Sunshine180 · 09/03/2024 16:55

@TTC12 aw don’t worry! Yes was pretty sore the evening of the collection but feeling back to myself now thankfully. Yes out of the 19, 17 were mature enough for ICSI and 14 fertilised then we had our day 3 update today and we still have 14!! so transfer on Monday.

omg that’s so bad how long you’ve had to wait! We were put straight on the waitlist for RFC in August 23 and had our first appointment with them December 23. I was told the gynae waitlist was 3 years which is when we seen the private gynae who looked at my husbands SA and said he didn’t understand why I’d been referred to gynae and that our GP should have did the RFC referral based on them so he did the referral for us. The GP was so clueless. we were going to go private in December then unexpectedly the NHS told us we wouldn’t have much longer to wait

Sunshine180 · 09/03/2024 17:04

@TTC12 and yes sorry have been taking the pesssaries from egg collection until my test date

OP posts:
TTC12 · 09/03/2024 19:10

@Sunshine180 that’s a fantastic result!! Good job!! Role on Monday!

The waiting has been crazy- we were told we needed a semen analysis before the Gp would refer us… which was fine. That had to be done at Craigavon lab, but we never heard from them, so we did it privately in the Jan. Then the gp finally referred us to Craigavon fertility clinic. First appointment wasn’t to July- but they wanted a repeat semen analysis from their lab, couldn’t do that to September…. Once we got those, they wanted us to repeat, again another 2 month wait to get another appointment, so that took us to November. Then we got the consultant appointment in the January this year, who then referred us to RFC!

il be asking you for advice come next week, and you have had your transfer! Any side effects to the pessaries so far?

Sunshine180 · 09/03/2024 19:19

@TTC12 thank you! Still a bit nervous for our update on Monday but hopefully we will still have a good number!

oh my what a hassle that all sounds! There was no wait at all for the SA appointments at RFC so I don’t understand why they couldn’t have just let you do them there. At least you are on the waiting list now but hopefully you won’t need it anyway!

not too long now until your transfer either! We’ll be in part of our 2ww together! Do you think you will test early? What age are you if you don’t mind me asking? The clinic seems to really put a lot of emphasis on age.
