Only 2 follicles after a week of treatment

Hi, I have been on a combination of Menopur and Ganerelix for just over a week now. I was scanned yesterday and found to have only 2 follicles (plus another really tiny 3rd one). My AMH is very low so I wasn’t expecting great results. Has anyone experienced the same? I know the odds are already stocked against us (my age plus low AMH)…we’re going back tomorrow for another scan and discuss ‘options’. Realistically is IVF even an option with just 2 follicles? I’m trying to stay positive…it’s difficult and I’m exhausted xx

Yes. 4 follicles - 2 eggs. I embryo: I bfp. He’s now almost 7. It really does take one. I didn’t believe it either. My amh was 2.8 and I was 35 at the time. X

@Ilikeviognier thank you so much for that. Yours is a really success story! I’m dreading the ‘conversation’ about options tomorrow..I want to keep going. I’m not unrealistic and know the odds…but also need to stay positive and have hope. Thank you for your response #itonlytakesone xx

I went for my scan after 5-6 days of stims, (amh of 9) and the consultant told me I was lucky to get one egg. Needless to say I was devastated. He booked me in for EC 3 days later. That was changed to 4 days as they were fully booked. I got 10 eggs, 6 mature, 4 fertilised and only 2 good enough to use. The second one is cooking nicely I’m currently 28 weeks pregnant. Going through IVF is such a rollercoaster and the feeling of anxiety at each stage is nerve racking. Best of luck ask your consultant if a double trigger might yield more eggs. I know it’s so cliche but it really only takes one xx

Eiremogra · 05/09/2021 17:19

Thanks @MeAndZig…I never even thought to ask about a double trigger?! How does that work? Thank you for that…I’m away to Google it ASAP! 😆

I’m not entirely sure I’m afraid but I have read a few threads on the IVF board where some women have had a double trigger to help with their egg count (I think - I could be wrong) …was I right?! I was also thinking I’m pretty sure you have to pay for an abandoned cycle so if you had a chance to get some eggs I would go for it. I think on the NHS it’s only counted as a cycle one you go in for egg collection. So if it’s NHS and your consultant thinks it’s good to try with a diff protocol or diff stim meds and it doesn’t count towards your cycles maybe that’s an option. As I’m 40 I used meriofert for stims. Apparently it’s used to help create better quality eggs, although again I really don’t know if this is scientifically true.

Eiremogra · 05/09/2021 19:23

Thanks @MeAndZig. I’ve tried to search the forum for double trigger info and can’t find it..can you point me in the right direction? We are paying privately, we didn’t meet the NHS funded criteria due to my age (41) and low AMH levels. This is our only chance..I need to give it my all xx

@Eiremogra You might find they suggest doing an IUI instead of IVF cycle

MeAndZig · 05/09/2021 19:47

Hope those links work

MeAndZig · 05/09/2021 19:47

Sometimes better to search in google rather than on the MN site

MeAndZig · 05/09/2021 19:50

This one - sorry to bombard you with lots of links!

No worries I know how stressful IVF can be, look at the last link , some women saying that they stimmed for more than 7 days x

Furmummy · 08/09/2021 10:07

1 folicle, which had 2 eggs in, I got my BFP but sadly early miscarriage - but it only takes 1egg - stay positive x

Goldilocks2528 · 08/09/2021 13:49

Hi @Eiremogra,
Another positive story for you!
In Feb/March this year we had our first ICSI cycle. I had 3 follicles and a very small one. We got 3 mature eggs, more then we were expecting. I was worried we would get none. 2 fertilised and got to day 5, and a hatching blasto was transferred to me. It worked and I fell pregnant, however after 2 scans where we saw a heartbeat the baby stopped growing and I sadly miscarried at 10.5 weeks.
The point of the story is, even with a few follies you can still get pregnant.
Good luck x

Eiremogra · 08/09/2021 14:07

@Goldilocks2528 thank you so much for that. I’m so anxious today, really stressed but your story of positivity is just what I need to hear xxx

@Eiremogra how are you getting on? Have you been back to the clinic for a scan. Sending you lots of positivity

Eiremogra · 08/09/2021 17:23

@MeAndZig I’m a ball of nerves tbh. Did the trigger shot last night and then didn’t sleep at all for the rest of the night. My mind is wandering to all sorts of places! Had another scan on Monday morn. Follicles are increasing in size but still so few of them. Consultant wasn’t keen to engage at all re: dual trigger shot. I’m feeling like everything is out of my hands. Back in tomorrow for EC. Thanks for checking in xx

That’s good news about increasing follicles! Best of luck for tomorrow I know how nerve racking it is. All you can do is go with the process now . Have everything crossed for you !

Eiremogra · 08/09/2021 18:29

@MeAndZig thanks so much Smile

I love all the positive stories gathered in this thread. Thanks for sharing.

@Eiremogra good luck today! Sending you positive energy and hugs!

strawberrysummer19 · 09/09/2021 19:47

Good luck! It was touch n go for me if my cycle was even going to go ahead with 9 folicles at the start, then only ONE was a decent size at one point and then 4 by the end. Then at EC we got 9 so I was very pleased. Ending up having OHSS which was madness considering they were talking about cancelling

I hope you've had good news xx
