Hi everyone.

I couldn't find a thread for ivf cycles July/August 2021 so I hope it's OK to start one. I was on the March/April thread for my fresh cycle and it was so nice to have support from others going through the same thing.

My fresh cycle was successful but unfortunately I miscarried at 8 weeks pregnant. We are start a frozen cycle with one of our 2 frozen embryos. Aiming to start tablets around the 10th July with the hope of transfer towards the end of July.

Would love to know if anyone else is in the same boat or has any tips!

@Helene2019 it's such a emotional rollercoaster isn't it, what are they doing different this time? It does only take 1 but it doesn't reassure you does it. I'm trying to stay positive and hope these to are little strong embys x

Helene2019 · 08/07/2021 22:56

It is an emotional rollercoaster for sure. Not helped by the fact that it feels like everyone has been having more babies during the lockdowns last year.

This time I'm on a short protocol and higher doses of both the stim drugs and trigger. We've been told it might be an egg issue but also not to give up on using our own and suggested the short protocol and dose changes etc. I guess we will see what happens - but given the previous cycle results I'm not optimistic. However I know I would regret it if we didn't try everything possible to use our own.

Hi everyone. Welcome @Helene2019 @tmc2021 @MaggieMoo86

@MaggieMoo86 I remember you from a previous thread. I'm so sorry for your losses xxx

@EasterBunny7 well done! Great to have signed that consent - and as I said you don't have to transfer two on the day if you don't want to. Did you ask them if anything would be changed this cycle?

@Orsh I know what you mean about the left over meds - it seems such a waste but it's illegal to supply prescription meds to someone they weren't intended for. Having said that, I'm on various FB groups where people do it all the time - but it is worth knowing that it's not legal so that you don't get in any trouble!!!

Xxx

Thank you @Janefx40

tmc2021 · 08/07/2021 23:04

@Janefx40
I have seen you have mentioned a bit about transferring 2 in. Can you say you want this or can clinic say no even if this is what you want? X

tmc2021 · 08/07/2021 23:09

@Helene2019 everywhere I turn someone else is pregnant or having a baby it so frustrating even though you happy for them at the same time. How old are you if you don't mind me asking am 34. I keep thinking there must be something else the can do to? What is short protocol?

I've got to wait until Saturday now to see how my embys doing and all being well transfer Monday but I want 2 back in but unsure wether clinic can say no.

You defo have to try everything first before getting donor 100 percent.

What does increasing the trigger shot do? X

Helene2019 · 08/07/2021 23:12

Hi @Janefx40 and everyone else joining.

@tmc2021 it depends on if you've previous failed transfers, age and other risk factors. We were asked in cycle 3 if we consented to two being transferred. But it wasn't an option in cycles 1 or 2.

tmc2021 · 08/07/2021 23:27

@Helene2019 this is my 3rd cycle if the embys stay strong I may ask an say it's what I want can only try x

JeOrdaannnn · 08/07/2021 23:47

Hi all Smile

So so glad to have found this thread. Getting to read through all of your experiences has been such a weird comfort, knowing I'm not alone in feeling just so overwhelmed by how daunting and emotional this whole process truly is!

I'm about to have my second FET done and I'm 100x more anxious this time round Confused My first one back in the start of June didn't go well at all and they couldn't get through my cervix, so it had to be cancelled after a 40 minute prodding and poking session. My embryo had to be refrozen and saved for next time.

I ended up having cervical dilatation done a few weeks back in prep for this 2nd FET. Has anyone else had to have this done or anything similar, and did it make your next attempt easier? Having had my EC done way back in March, I was hoping to have at least had one transfer done by now :'(

X

tmc2021 · 09/07/2021 00:15

@JeOrdaannnn hi sorry I never heard of this but am sure it more common then you think. My first transfer was very uncomfortable and had stomach cramps the second I didn't feel a thing so suppose things can change down there.

Hope all goes well xx

cannonball8726 · 09/07/2021 07:09

Hi all, can I please join the thread? I'm 35 and have a 2 year old through IVF in 2018 (@Janefx40 - I think we cycled together in the June 2018 thread!).

I have just had a frozen transfer yesterday (one embryo) and now in the 2 week wait. Have found the FET much easier to get through than the fresh cycle which is good. Finding it difficult to avoid heavy lifting though. @Janefx40 did you avoid lifting your toddler much in the days following transfer?

heywhatswrongwitu · 09/07/2021 08:12

Cannonball I had my FET yesterday too! Keeping everything crossed for you.

heywhatswrongwitu · 09/07/2021 08:15

Jeordannn that sounds so hard. With my first transfer they found it difficult to get it in and managed in the end. When I had my HSG they had to try different sizes etc and it was horrid. This time round for the transfer it was fine and no discomfort.

heywhatswrongwitu · 09/07/2021 08:20

@Janefx40 thank you! Yes I was hoping to do a natural cycle last month but my lining didn't agree so ive been on the long protocol, now 2ww!!

Janefx40 · 09/07/2021 08:31

@tmc2021 most clinics will only transfer one embryo unless you are older or there is a very strong reason such as low embryo quality. I was over 40 when I started IVF so they usually transfer 2 or more because your chance of the embryo being healthy is so much lower (hence you are less likely to have a multiple birth). I have had 2 x 3 embryos transferred. Having said that my DD was a single embryo transfer.

@JeOrdaannnn welcome and I'm sorry about your transfer. That sounds awful but it sounds like they are well prepared for this time to go smoothly.

@cannonball8726 hello!!! You can see I've not changed my name but well above 40 now!! I don't think it's possible to completely avoid lifting but we told her I had a sore tummy and I avoided picking her up from the ground and most lifting where possible. I gave her lots of cuddles on the floor instead or I got her to climb onto the sofa and picked her up from there. I can't imagine it's too serious tho (plus actually I did get pregnant so the first transfer worked but miscarried - not related to lifting!!).

Aprilia123 · 09/07/2021 09:32

Hope everyone is doing well and underway or close to with treatment!

I had collection yesterday - we got 6, which from the scans is a good result. Now nervously awaiting the fertilisation call…

2021babyhope · 09/07/2021 10:21

@Aprilia123 aah amazing - well done lovely, got my fingers crossed for you 🥰

I've got an egg collection booked for 5th august (tbc) and start stims in about 2 weeks!

Go from being quite excited to quite anxious 😅 how're you feeling after EC?

Aprilia123 · 09/07/2021 10:34

@2021babyhope Fingers crossed for you when you start!

Wasn’t great news, 2 fertilised normally so they want to do a day 3 transfer if either is good then. I’d sort of accepted this cycle was not great, so I’m ok about it. And it still only takes 1…

Aprilia123 · 09/07/2021 10:35

@2021babyhope Sorry completely for got to say I feel ok, a bit sore but paracetamol and hot pack works - no worse than a bad period .

beachbum85 · 09/07/2021 13:21

@Aprilia123 sorry to hear it wasn't great news this morning, but keeping my fingers crossed that both will keep going strong and you can transfer on Sunday! Very glad you're feeling OK xx

@Purplemichelle ugh sorry about your uncomfortable and worrying scan! I can understand the tears and send you a big hug xx But I hope your scan went well today and things are looking better!

@heywhatswrongwitu and @cannonball8726 goodluck with your 2WW xx

@JeOrdaannnn I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the FET last time round - sounds terrible :( I'm sorry, I have no experience myself but I'm sure the cervical dilatation and hope it will be super easy for you this time!

@Helene2019 sorry to hear about your struggle so far too! I really hope the changes help... it sounds crazy that the NHS didn't suggest anything different over 3 rounds!

@MaggieMoo86 sorry for your losses :( How did your scan go today?

@tmc2021 sorry for your MMC and previous cycle! I hope your 2 (or 4?) stay strong xx

@EasterBunny7 very sorry for your losses :( I think the lack of positivity is totally understandable as time goes on... it's my second cycle and I fluctuate between excitement and resigning myself to it not working (and I'm still waiting to start). It's all so tough, but I hope this transfer is the one for you!

@Alexm06 ohhh that sounds painful! That's exactly how I felt after my HyCoSy hehe

@Orsh I gave my closed and unused medication back to the clinic as I heard they keep them for emergency situations, but as @Janefx40 said: be careful with sharing prescription meds. I do agree it's such a waste though!

Hello to everyone else! And best of luck all around :)

Purplemichelle · 09/07/2021 14:06

@beachbum85 the scan was easier today and not so uncomfortable!! The follicles are growing and I’ve been given 3 more days of stims. The cost of the drugs is just absurd though!!!! Another scan on Monday. Xx

MaggieMoo86 · 09/07/2021 15:01

Just on my way to my baseline scan now.
Feeling a bit meh about it all today to be honest. We want a baby more than anything and I know it will be worth it eventually, it just feels like this process has absolutely taken over our entire lives, thoughts etc.
I need a nice dinner and a big sleep I think.

beachbum85 · 09/07/2021 15:06

@Purplemichelle I'm so glad it was a better scan and they're growing... you must be so relieved :) xx

beachbum85 · 09/07/2021 15:09

@MaggieMoo86 it is so hard when you think of everything we have to go through, that others don't :( I find it all encompassing too and a heavy weight on my shoulders... but as you say, I just keep telling myself it will be worth it. I hope you get good news at your baseline scan and can have a relaxing evening and weekend and feel better. Hugs xx

Orsh · 09/07/2021 15:54

Thank you @Janefx40 And @beachbum85 for you advise.
It is such a shame... I will ask the clinic
