IVF July/August 2021

Hi everyone.

I couldn't find a thread for ivf cycles July/August 2021 so I hope it's OK to start one. I was on the March/April thread for my fresh cycle and it was so nice to have support from others going through the same thing.

My fresh cycle was successful but unfortunately I miscarried at 8 weeks pregnant. We are start a frozen cycle with one of our 2 frozen embryos. Aiming to start tablets around the 10th July with the hope of transfer towards the end of July.

Would love to know if anyone else is in the same boat or has any tips!

@janefx40 so glad you've got 2 more blastocyst for freezing, that is excellent news!

@bobtat @beachbum85 official test day is Sunday.. If I can hold out that long. I felt really positive up until today and I just feel completely deflated. I think the realisation that this could be potentially a 3rd failed cycle and then it's kind of like where do we go from there? I really am trying to stay positive but realistic also.. 😞 Its such a tough journey xx

Hope all ok! And best of luck to everyone on whatever stage they are at...this thread is well over due good news! Just wanted to ask has anyone ever read 'it starts with the egg'? I'm a bit late in reading it after a failed fresh and two failed FET's but better late than never! Anyone like it or benefit from it in any way?

Yes @chocolate336 I know it well. I followed the diet and supplements this time around. When we were trying for my DD I discovered it a bit late so although I did follow it, I think I started it too late to have an impact.

I'll never know if it made a difference or not! My old clinic recommend it certainly.

I hesitate to mention it on active threads as I think it can stress people if they think they've missed something but I have talked about it occasionally and this is a good time to discuss it since most people have finished cycling now!

You can do it... there's absolutely no way of knowing which way it'll go and the ups and downs are totally normal but one step at a time. I have absolutely everything crossed that it won't be a 3rd failed transfer for you. But in the meantime here if you'd like to talk through it xx

@chocolate336 I've read parts of it and followed suggestions about houseware, cosmetics, cleaning products, etc and diet to some degree. As @Janefx40 said, I think it can be quite stressful, especially since I tend to get a bit OCD with lists and things to do or not do, so I've deliberately read bits of it and made a few changes at a time. IF it doesn't work for us this time, I'll go back to it and try take some more suggestions on board.

@beachbum85 @Janefx40 Yes i've only started it...but had read reviews about it stressing people even more so I was hesitant to get it...but bit the bullet and got it now. I Tend to be OCD as well...so we shall see how it goes. IVF brain is in full force at the mo....I even bought fertility crystals and I am not that sort of person.....I'll try anything lol x

@chocolate336 I'm laughing at your comment about the crystals. I was on the verge of buying a fertility crystal quartz bracelet. My DP looked at me like I was mad when I told him!😂 IVF makes you do some crazy things!

@Bethpalmer20 hahaha my DH doesn't even know I've bought them...he'll look at me mad when they arrive in the post!lol! And I also have my pineapple key ring lol x

@chocolate336 @Bethpalmer20 hahaha my partner thinks I'm mad and I have no crystals yet :) I do have a lucky charm I bought at a Japanese temple dedicated to fertility the month we started trying... that hasn't done much good... and some holy picture that my grandma gave me for a smooth birth... overly optimistic I'm not religious or spiritual at all, but I figure it can't hurt... the joys of ttc and ivf

@beachbum85 hahaha! I am so glad I have this thread to talk to you ladies who make me feel much better about my crazy IVF antics!lol! I will deffo send a pic 😂

Haha @beachbum85 that is funny. I had a note from a fortune cookie just before my 1st transfer that said 'keep this on you for good luck' I took it as a sign and it's been in the back of my phone case ever since... I'm yet to have any good luck 😂 I hope egg collection goes well for you today, thinking of you and keeping everything crossed ❤️

It went smoothly and they got 6 eggs. I'm a bit disappointed because they seemed really confident that they'd get 8 or so (and we had 9 last time) but I know it's quality over quantity so I'm looking forward to seeing how things go over the next few days 🤞🏼🤞🏼
On a positive note, I feel totally fine and just a bit sleepy - gotta love that sedation :)

So glad it went well @beachbum85 and yes definitely quality over quantity. Hoping for the best for you, do keep us updated! Slightly jealous of your sedation, it was the best nap of my life 😂x

Yes haha I really didn't want to wake up or get out of there... I could have easily spent another half hour easing myself back into real life

@beachbum85 well done on your egg collection. 6 is great - and as you say it's about fertilisation anyway. If it's of interest we had only 1 of 6 fertilise in round 1 but it made blastocyst. 3 of 6 fertilised in round 3 and only 1 made blastocyst. Of course we don't know whether they are viable yet but the rates vary so much.

@beachbum85 sorry if that sounded depressing - remember I am 44 - we are lucky to get any fertilise at all - you have much better odds!

Tbh last time 8/9 fertilised and 4 made blasts but none developed as we'd hoped, so I'd much rather 1 good one at this point! I've heard quite a few stories of the 1 blast that makes a baby, and they're super encouraging...

Do you have an ETA for your results? How are you coping with the wait? xx

@chocolate336 my mum once got me some magnetic thing that attached to my undies in an attempt to reduce period pain... these look a bit too bulky for that, but I tbh that's what they're reminding me of hahaha maybe you can maybe a belt with them?!
