August IVF

Had a quick look through but can't find an existing thread. Anyone due to cycle in August after a bit of moral support?

We are due to start our 2nd cycle of icsi for male azoospermia and my premature ovarian aging (full house for us!)

Just wanted to update. I'm now at goal weight and am waiting for clinic to ring next week with timetable.

thefishthatcouldwish · 13/08/2020 17:28

Wrong thread sorry

80SM · 13/08/2020 19:28

Thanks for your kind words, ladies. I don’t really have a plan as I didn’t think I would make to this stage.
I’m feeling a bit sad though, my transferred blast embryo is a very poor quality 4CC and the second one is only pre blast average. Is there any hopes ? I have looked at many stats which all say there is a very low implantation rate.

CardboardCat · 13/08/2020 20:06

Hey everyone, hope everyone is feeling ok today xx

I'm so glad it's been a tiny bit cooler today. I'm in Reading and it's been consistently between 33 and 38(!) since Friday. It's still sticky as hell but hopefully will be able to sleep a bit better tonight. Just been out for a wee walk around the block and for the first time I think I can maybe, possibly, sort of feel my ovaries twinging a bit. First monitoring scan tomorrow and I'm nervous/excited to see how things are progressing. Just generally in quite a good mood this evening, not sure why but will roll with it.

Ro198 · 13/08/2020 20:42

@80SM I only had 1 to freeze which was a 4cc, I asked if it was worth freezing due to lower quality and the doctor told me it’s definitely worth it as they still have good success rates

80SM · 13/08/2020 21:02

@Ro198

It’s interesting. My doctor said that it is not suitable for freezing and let me transfer it together with a grade 2 pre blast embryo, which wasn’t suitable to transfer either. Can I ask you if you got BFP with your 4CC?

Does anyone have success outcomes with pre blasts on day 5?

80SM · 13/08/2020 21:04
  • wasn’t suitable to freeze, not transfer
CardboardCat · 13/08/2020 21:08

@80SM There is definitely hope, sometimes it's just hard to hang on to. Wishing you lots of luck and really hoping they stick. Xx

Ro198 · 13/08/2020 22:20

@80SM the embryo I had implanted this time was 4bb. I thought that too about the 4cc which is why I asked him and he seemed pretty confident it was worth it

Bruce2 · 14/08/2020 07:40

@80SM

One of my friends had very low egg reserve. They only collect 3 eggs, only one fertilised and it was a 4cc....she now has a beautiful 4 year old daughter! And then fell pregnant naturally 6 months later and has 2 wee girls that look like twins!

A lot of the time these 5AA's look good in Petri dishes but have the same chance of not making it due to unknown chromosomal disorders or other things the clinicians can't tell just by looking at microscope.
Every clinic different too. Ones 4cc might be another's 4BA
I'd just think positive :)
Fingers crossed

kikisparks · 14/08/2020 08:56

@CardboardCat good luck for your scan today!

@80sm sorry no experience as this is my first round but I’m sure ethically they wouldn’t put an embryo back unless it had a chance of implanting, I’m sure I’ve seen stories of people’s 4CCs turning into healthy babies.

Lepatz · 14/08/2020 09:51

Hiya everyone!

Just about to catch up on all the messages - I had to take a couple of days out as my wobble progressed to a full meltdown. I had an issue at work, and just could not cope. Crying on my zoom calls etc. So ended up speaking to my GP and being signed off until it’s all over. So that was all a bit embarrassing, but I’m just trying not to think about it!!

Though thanks all for the messages re the follicles - that really helped put my mind at ease. It’s amazing the mess I can think myself into right now!

@Mseddy Yep, had to stop DTD last night too!! That was day 8. I feel so heavy and twingy. Walking is a bit of a challenge even. I wonder if the heat has made things worse?

@kikisparks 10 eggs fertilised!!! Amazing, so happy for you :D I can’t remember, were you having the full sedation for the EC? Also, what is ‘testing out the trigger’??

@80SM congrats on the transfer, keeping everything crossed for a sticky :)

I’m just sitting in a coffee shop waiting for my day 9 scan. I’m feeling really quite out of it, and definitely more side effects since they upped the menopur dose. Which I’m hoping is a good thing!

Happy cooler Friday everyone :D x

Mseddy · 14/08/2020 10:39

@Lepatz don't feel embarrassed, we have to do what is right for us. Originally I was going to stay at work until day 8, but I freaked out on day 1 and went home within 5 mins of being there and left in floods of tears. What we are going through isn't normal so we have to give ourselves a break.
If I walk down the stairs too quick it hurts my ovaries! It's soooo different to last time and I'm on the same dose. Last time I went to alton towers after my day 9 scan!! I couldn't think of anything worse than going on a roller-coaster right now!! I've got my day 9 scan tomorrow which is my first stim scan. Last time I had another on day 11 and then egg collection on day 13. My day 9 scan last time the follicles where under developed. This time with the extra symptoms I'm hoping they are a little more developed and I can have egg collection a little sooner

kikisparks · 14/08/2020 11:26

@Lepatz sorry to hear about that but definitely don’t be embarrassed. I’m lucky that work (usually quite stressful) has been relatively low stress just now as IVF is stressful enough to deal with!

I did have full sedation and it was bliss- I was a crying shaking mess in theatre because I was so emotional and I’m incredibly grateful for the lovely anaesthetists for knocking me out quickly. I’m sure it’s perfectly fine without sedation too but if I had my way I’d be sedated for all procedures, I struggle to manage my emotions (cried all the way through my hycosy too which was not under sedation! Poor doctor was quite alarmed!)

Testing out the trigger is probably not necessary and basically just so I feel like I’m doing something. When you get your HCG booster/ trigger 36 hours before egg collection then there will be HCG in your urine for a while after and pregnancy tests will show up positive. The reason to test it out is so that once the pregnancy tests show as negative again you know that any test you do after embryo transfer, if it’s positive, is definitely due to pregnancy and not the trigger. If you wait til official testing day it will definitely be out anyway but I’m a worrier and would like to know that with 100% certainty! Hope that makes sense.

kikisparks · 14/08/2020 11:27

Also hope your scan goes well!

CardboardCat · 14/08/2020 11:46

Just back from my scan and I feel happy-ish. The nurse counted 13 follicles in total but 5 of them are teeny tiny and won't have time to catch up. 8 follicles are looking promising and growing really well. There's even a chance that I may be ready to trigger on Monday which would be earlier than I had anticipated! So yeah, I know 8 follicles isn't going to win any medals in the numbers game but it's in line with my low AMH and I'm really hoping that there will be some good quality eggs in there.

CardboardCat · 14/08/2020 12:00

@kikisparks Is the full sedation the same as "twilight sedation" with midazolam and propafol? Thats what my clinic does, I don't know what the standard is or if it changes clinic to clinic.

@Lepatz Nothing embarrassing about that at all! We're human first and foremost and we all have a limit of how much stress we can take. IVF is enough for anyone to have on their plate. We give 40 odd years of our lives to work, a couple of weeks at this point is a drop in the ocean.

@Mseddy Good luck at your scan tomorrow! Your symptoms sound really promising.

Lepatz · 14/08/2020 12:18

Ahhh, it's so nice to feel the support from this group - thank you ladies :). Keeping perspective is a bit of a struggle. Being signed off really helps.

My scan went well! 9 follicles (out of 18) are good sized, and another 2/3 will hopefully catch up by trigger time. Which will probably be Sunday or Monday - wooo! @CardboardCat I think 8 is a good count esp for low AMH :). So now I'm just waiting for the blood test results to confirm trigger day

@Mseddy ROLLERCOASTER!!! Utterly unimaginable right now haha! I had to take a cab to and from my 9 day scan because even walked felt aggravating. Good luck for tomorrow :)

@kikisparks I hear you re sedation for procedures. I cried during my dummy transfer. It's the heady mix of emotions, stress, and stirrups i think! But good news - they've changed the process, and I'll be put under for EC after all. So relieved :D

I've treated myself to a nice scented candle from the posh shop near the hospital - planning to spend the day mostly horizontal with netflix, cats, and snacks.

nextweek · 14/08/2020 12:31

@Lepatz Definitely don't worry about needing the time off, you've got to take care and put yourself first right now. The more relaxed you can be the better :-)

@CardboardCat 8 follicles sounds good, very promising!

I had my first monitoring scan today. The nurse didn't say how many follicles but said she could see some that are 12,14 & 15 in size and my lining is getting thicker. She said it all looks like they would expect it to at this point so no concerns. I'm back on Monday for another scan.

StayingPositive8 · 14/08/2020 13:06

Hi ladies sounds like a lot of very positive scans, egg collections and transfers going on.

@CardboardCat 8 follicles is amazing with low AMH! I only managed 3

And I was definitely one of the emotional ones! I cried before EC and during the embryo transfer when I saw the embryo on screen. It’s such an emotional process, not to mention the hormones from the drugs.

TWW has been the slowest time! HCG bloods on Monday so a few days left!

Hope everyone manages to have a relaxing weekend.

Mseddy · 14/08/2020 13:21

Lots of nice promising scans!! Hope I can join the positive crew tomorrow, fingers crossed!!
@CardboardCat my clinic do sedation rather than full anaesthetic too. I got midazolam and fentanyl last time. From what the anaesthetist said after, I was awake and talking to him throughout, but I only have a tiny memory of being moved from the table back onto the trolley and then waking up what I thought was 5 mins later but my DH said it was quite a while later! It's the midazolam that gives the amnesia effect, we give it at work to ventilated patients to keep them chill

CardboardCat · 14/08/2020 16:35

Thanks everyone! So nice to have the support in this group.

@nextweek Sounds like you had a really good first scan too! Definitely sounds like the drugs are doing what they're meant to be doing. I'm back for the next scan on Monday too.

@Mseddy Good to know about the sedation. We give midazolam at work as emergency seizure medication so I found it quite funny that I'll get to try it out.

@StayingPositive8 I've got everything crossed for you, really hoping you get positive news on Monday.

kikisparks · 14/08/2020 18:33

@CardboardCat sounds like a good scan outcome! I’m not really sure if it was twilight sedation, I know it wasn’t a general anaesthetic. The anaesthetist explained it to me that at first I’d be woozy like I was drunk but I’d still be aware of what’s going on, then I’d be lightly dozing but still sensitive to touch. He said there would be separate pain relief as well. To be honest I’ve had a general and my experience of this was exactly the same except less of a sore throat due to no breathing tube- a few moments after they said they’d start the sedation I was asleep with no memory of what happened after that until I woke up in recovery.

@Lepatz another great scan! Not long til trigger that’s exciting.

@Mseddy good luck for your scan!

@nextweek that all sounds very promising from your scan.

Sounds like a lot of things happening on Monday- really hope you get good news @StayingPositive8

Mseddy · 14/08/2020 20:20

Fingers crosses for Monday @StayingPositive8! Are you going to poas too? I can't help myself and know I'll be poas as soon as possible!

I feel a bit like the new kid in the playground but wondering if I can join this thread please?

I am on 2dp5dt so had our FET just a day after you @80SM and currently twiddling my thumbs, drinking decaf tea and wondering how long I will be able to hold out until testing.

This is our third transfer, the first fresh didn't take (I regret not doing a freeze-all really because I felt pretty awful after the egg retrieval and think my body was under a lot of stress, but hey-ho) and the second transfer (and first FET) ended in a chemical.

This time round I am on the same estogen and progesterone meds as well as prenatal vits but with the addition of Clexane injections (ouch), Vitamin E, L'Arginine, and B12, Iron and Magnesium because we found out they were all low last time.

Wishing everyone loads of luck x
