Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?

Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

@Morpho123 I'm not 100% sure when I ovulated this month. My app says on CD 18 but I haven't checked with OPKs in a while because it was sending me a bit nutty.

Morpho123 · 23/04/2020 20:29

@Cat028 opks send me nutty too! Honestly they become obsessive! I just do bbt, not every day though actually, I know when I’m due roughly to ovulate and then my bbt I just do to see when it’s high around that time. Once it’s high I know Iv already ovulated xx

Cat028 · 23/04/2020 20:49

@Morpho123 Omg yes!! I got totally obsessed with them. Bbt wasn't too bad because I knew I should only really do it first thing. I may start tempting again next month if I end up out this month. I have never been very good at it though. My temps were up and down a lot.

Chochaw · 23/04/2020 21:37

@Morpho123 sweats were bad but mine have started to be less frequent now. OPK still the same for me but I'm not due to ovulate for another week anyway. We will start DTD just to make sure we don't miss it anyway. I started eating pineapple today and I ate the core and have ended up with toothache 🤣.

@Cat028 will keep fingers crossed for you.

Chochaw · 23/04/2020 21:38

@Etonmess20 was yesterday your 1st tablet? Any side effects? X

Morpho123 · 23/04/2020 21:44

@chochaw believe it or not I’m allergic to pineapple 😂 what are the chances! I’m not surprised with the toothache the core is so hard lol!

Xx

Cat028 · 23/04/2020 21:48

@Chochaw thanks 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Glad to hear your sweats have started to ease. Oh dear! Have you tried the tinned pineapple rings?

Chochaw · 24/04/2020 06:15

@Cat028 it's the core of a pineapple that is supposed to be good for fertility due to the bromelaine🤣. It tastes awful but I am still guilty of trying everything that might help. X

Etonmess20 · 24/04/2020 07:37

@Chochaw last night was my 3rd tablet so I'm CD5 today. I've found I've woken up hot a couple of times during the night so I've been a bit tired the next day too.
How's things with you? Hopefully your toothache is better today!!

Chochaw · 24/04/2020 07:41

Toothache is better today. Hot flushes back with vengeance last night. If the only side effect we are all getting is hot flushes we can handle that x

Etonmess20 · 24/04/2020 14:09

@Chochaw definitely! Are your hot flushes purely during the night or have you found you get them during the day too? X

Cat028 · 24/04/2020 16:00

@Chochaw oops! Ignore me then! 🤣🤣

Chochaw · 24/04/2020 17:54

@cat028 always night flushes. They are bad but not quite as bad as the flushes after pregnancy. I remember about 2 weeks after having my daughter and waking up completely drenched. Nobody tells you about this sweats! I had read about 30 books about pregnancy and motherhood and it was never mentioned 😂x

Hope you are all enjoying the sun. X

Cat028 · 24/04/2020 18:11

Omg really?? I didn't know that. Did it go on for a long time after you have your daughter?

Chochaw · 25/04/2020 00:10

@Cat028 about 6 months. I was very lucky that my daughter slept through the night from about 5 weeks but I would wake up through the night and need to have fan on and change my clothes as I was soaked through. I was about to go to GP for a check up and it stopped because i was sure it was the menopause. Dr Google said it was normal though 😂.

Between that and pelvic floor muscles there is a lot to learn for during pregnancy. I advise all to get pelvic floor under control and really strong before getting pregnant. Let's just say I will not be on a trampoline again anytime soon.😂

Hello ladies I hope you are all well and safe and hope the side effects of Clomid are easing off. I thought I'll give you an update as I joined a Zoom meeting yesterday which was organised by my clinic. It was called " Patient Support Meeting". I didn't have any expectation and thought it would be just a nurse answering questions. Surprisingly one of the consultants(not my consultant) and a few nurses were at the meeting. The consultant said they are putting plans in places to ensure they are able to reopen once the HFEA gives the green light. They were talking about how to reduce waiting time at the hospital for appointment, phone consultation rather than in person.
It doesn't look like they've been affected much by the coronavirus in terms of redeployment. The consultant even mentioned if there is one fertility clinic reopen in the UK he wants to be reopening too. I feel very optimistic after the meeting as they are very keen to move things forward. They encouraged us to call the nurses if we have any personal query and I did. :) I was supposed to have a meeting with the nurse and have all papers signed in March for IUI but they cancelled my meeting. So I rang the nurse and she suggested I should now have phone meeting with IUI nurse. :) I know I won't be starting any treatment yet but I feel they are really trying their best to support their existing patients. Compared to my phone call to Lister, Lister was quite unhelpful.
This meeting gave me a sense of reassurance they are trying hard to reopen their door.
Wish you all a lovely weekend! xx

Cat028 · 25/04/2020 14:18

@Chochaw wow that is lucky! What a good sleeper your daughter is. I hope that's continued for you. Good to know. I'll have to look into pelvic fllor exercises.

@Limeflower2 What clinic are you with? Glad to hear they are putting things in place to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. That's really reassuring for you. Light at the end of the tunnel for you. ☺️

Limeflower2 · 25/04/2020 15:55

Hi @Cat028, I'm with Chelsea & Westnubster Hospital, I'm a private client as I'm not qualify for any funding. They are part of NHS too, so I'd say other hospitals/ clinics are probably in the same situation if none of the fertility staff have been redeploy. Let's hope we get the green light soon.:)

Limeflower2 · 25/04/2020 15:56

Just spotted typo * Chelsea & Westminster

Morpho123 · 25/04/2020 17:24

My clinic did a webinar on Thursday, and they said the HFEA had updated and looks like they will be opening very soon, they just had to confirm some things with them- so fingers crossed for a couple of weeks time!

I’m cd8 just waiting for ovulation impatiently hoping I get a few eggs with clomid and maybe at least one might get fertilised 😂 I have high hopes but that’s dangerous isn’t it 😔

My husband is so much more relaxed and I’m so hoping that’s made a difference- I think he really needed this break from work.

I haven’t had hardly any effect from clomid, a few ovary twinges and I woke up in a hot sweat last night but it seems to only last a few minutes for me, then I’m fine again!

Hope you girls are keeping positive xxx

Chochaw · 25/04/2020 20:25

Ladies this sounds really positive. My nurse had advised it would be a while(at least a year) before they could open but the HFEA seems to have updated policy very quickly. I'mgoing to call and ask on Monday and contact private clinic again.

CD13 for me. No more side affects other than hair dye didn't take for me today. My neighbour is my hairdresser and her husband works for my husband so we have been cross contaminated anyway so she dyed my hair this afternoon. It came out orange. I have been blonde since I was 15 so this is not right. She used a toner to tame it down but it is still a lot warmer than I am used to. My hair is normally very ashy. X

willithappen · 25/04/2020 22:16

Very good to hear some positives coming out of clinics! I imagine it will be a lot longer for NHS ones though!

My next appointment was meant to be in three days so gonna be a hard one. That was the 'let's go on the waiting list' appointment...

Cat028 · 26/04/2020 10:10

@Limeflower2 that's good to know. I have been looking into private clinics to finish our fertility assessments and get moving in case NHS clinics take longer to reopen. I was due to have our review appointment in June but that has been cancelled as they have said staff needed to be redeployed. The wait is agony so I'm definitely glad to hear your news.

@Morpho123 that's great news too. Fingers crossed once everything starts to reopen we can all continue where we left off. Less stress is great atm. Especially with everything going on. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

@Chochaw let us know how you get on on Monday. What a strange side effect!!

@willithappen have you had any update about when your appointment is likely to be?

Narwhal88 · 26/04/2020 10:43

Hi all! Some positive news from the HFEA and clinics. Like @willithappen says I think it will be a while for some of the NHS hospitals, especially those with smaller fertility departments. My appointment was meant to be this Tuesday to start the ball rolling with tests for me but it has been cancelled. I know a lot of staff have been redeployed as I work in the same hospital trust and actually have some redeployed staff in my department so I assume the fertility/gynae team has as well. My hospital trust doesn't actually do fertility treatments so once the tests are done I would be referred to a private clinic anyway (but on the NHS).
We can't really afford to go private without trying the NHS first so it's just a long waiting game 😞

willithappen · 26/04/2020 11:55

No word on when my appointment will be, no :( we were just told it had been cancelled and once things had settled down for them they would be back in touch to re-arrange.

I'm going to be saving up for going private I think but it's likely by that time NHS may be open again. Thing is I'd only just be going on waiting list so it would be another 6 months (at very minimum) from there before anything is done :(
