Hi all,

I can't see a thread for Dec/ Jan yet - maybe because a lot of clinics shut over the holidays - but mine doesn't! Anyone else out there starting in December and want to support each other? This will be my first round so I'm pretty nervous! X

Hi everyone, happy new year . Kindly permit me to join this lovely group. I am having ICSI(Nhs Fundes) due to male infertility azoospermia. I had my first scan today which was day 3 of my bleed, I was told to start stims tonight Gonal-F 150iu. I hope it goes well for everyone.Xx

Minster2012 · 02/01/2020 20:51

@Nmvasey that was the same for us back in the day 3 years ago, 3 vials and the water each day yes, but powder dissolving in the water not a tablet. Each night I had to get OH to sit down with me & do it so we didn’t mess up but then he was away for a few nights & it was ok we were in a rhythm then so it gets easier!

My second scan tomorrow to check after AF to then start taking the estriol tablets which seemingly are 1mg which I take 2 of then 3 of then 4 about 3 times a day!! I already take 15 tablets a day for my other medical conditions I’m going to rattle so much Confused

Nmvasey · 02/01/2020 21:00

@minster2012 I wonder why I’m still having those when clearly things have advanced and it can be made much easier 🙈 I’m guessing the effectiveness must be the same 🤞🏻 Dare I ask we’re you successful 3 years ago? Wow that’s going to be a lot of tablets to take, I’d forget, I’m useless

BaileyBadger4 · 02/01/2020 21:35

@Nmvasey exactly the same as me hun. When I start stims il have 1 vial of water and 3 vials each with a powder tablet in the bottom. At the demonstration we were shown to snap the top off the water vial using the plastic applicator, draw up all of the water using a massive pink needle, push the water into one of the vials containing a tablet (causing it to dissolve instantly), draw up all of that solution and repeat the process until all 3 vials of solution are in the syringe, swap the needle over to a tiny yellow one (same ones I've been using for DR) and then inject. Have to do that every single evening. What a palaver!! Going to have to set aside plenty of time each eve to do it! lol Glad to hear someone having to do the same though. Such a lot to remember! And seems madness they ask us to do all of that ourselves! lol feels like it should be someone qualified having to do something so complicated lol but I'm sure once we've done the first couple we'll be like old pros 😉 xx

Minster2012 · 02/01/2020 22:42

@nmvasey despite me being told my AMH was v low (I think 2.1) despite being 32 at the time after 7 years of chemo treatment we thought my fertility was screwed & got told to expect it not to work....but we got 4 eggs, 3 went onto mature & 2 fertilised very well. They had to be frozen for at least 6 months as we were using a surrogate (my best friend as host) & u have to repeat HEFA tests for surrogacy. We did a FET to my best friend of 1 embryo & tomorrow I have to take our 17 month old terror to my scan as if I ask someone to babysit they will get suspicious & no room at nursery! So yes, it worked! Despite also ballsing up the trigger shot not realising there were 2 vials for that as they in a separate box it still worked!

But first time I’m trying to carry myself

BaileyBadger4 · 03/01/2020 03:30

Hey guys 👋 just sat here on nightshift and interested to know.. who's having their ivf nhs funded and who's having private treatment? How many nhs cycles are you allowed in your area? Is this your first cycle or have you cycled before? Successful or unsuccessful? (If not too personal a question of course)

We are having our first round of ICSI toward end of this month due to severe MFI (single figure sperm count)

In my area we only get 1 free round of ivf on the nhs so we're really praying it works first time 🙏🙏 We have been given a 1 in 3 chance of success the fertility specialist so I think cautiously hopeful is the phrase best used here lol I'm trying to be positive but I've found myself being more realist just

BaileyBadger4 · 03/01/2020 03:33

*have found myself being more realist than anything. I'm trying to be more positive but I'm just so scared to get my hopes up Confused xx

Nmvasey · 03/01/2020 07:31

@BaileyBadger4 I’m glad to hear that someone else is on the same meds.

@minster2012 ah yes sorry I remember, there’s so many of us now it’s hard to keep track. Love hearing the positive stories, here’s hoping there’s another for you.

@baileybadger I’m very lucky to be in the NE as we are one of the few that get 3 cycles funded. This is our first ever cycle 🙏.

BambiOnIce80 · 03/01/2020 07:44

Good morning @BaileyBadger4 🌞 In my area they fund 3 cycles if you're under 40 and 1 if you're between 40 & 42. We've chosen to go self-funded with the NHS even though we're eligible for funding because the waiting list is epically long here! 😒 I'd be well over 40 before our turn came around and we just wanted to get this out of the way whilst our odds were still slightly better and also so that we can just get on with our lives, either with a bambino or without 🔮

I think you're right about the 3 vials - yourself and @Nmvasey will be pros before you know it! You've got this 😉

Realised this morning that the gonal-f does sting a tiny bit after all! 😂 It was about 30 seconds after giving it that I thought "hmmmm, did I graze my skin with the needle or something? 🤔"... No bambi. The gonal-f is supposed to sting, remember?! 💉 🤦‍♀️ I also left my drug recording sheet thingy by the sink and my kitten has laid in the sink and then decided it looked like a nice thing to lay on next - it's soaked! 😼 Not quite sure how I'm going to explain the state of it at my next scan on Tuesday! 💦🤷‍♀️

Kellyprt1 · 03/01/2020 09:18

Second gonal f done last night should I be feeling something happening
Don't feel any different at all
... So hoping I respond :(

Kellyprt1 · 03/01/2020 09:20

@BambiOnIce80 that's good that it is 3 cycles in your area its one in my area and I was just in the criteria because I'm of my Amh.

BambiOnIce80 · 03/01/2020 09:35

I've had my second gonal-f this morning @Kellyprt1 and don't feel any different yet. Think it'll take some time to do it's thing with our follicles ⌚ I was in a foul mood last night for no apparent reason though (very unlike me!), so I'm wondering if that was anything to do with the gonal-f getting into my system 🤔 Had particularly horrible night sweats last night too, so I'm no longer optimistic that the gonal-f will knock them on the head 🥵😒

UnicornPuff · 03/01/2020 09:42

Had my baseline scan this morning and my lining is 2.4 cm and they just wanted it below 5 so I am starting stims tomorrow.

We are NHS funded in our area you get 1 fresh 1 frozen. We are MFI azoospermia caused by blockage. Surgical sperm retrival gave us 6 vials with a sample frozen, thawed and survived. All my tests came back normal until we got to IVF clinic where we found my AMH is low for age but other than doing long protocol they dont seem to concerned.

I am also on menopur so diluting with water and mixing myself. It will end up being easy, the buserelin has!

Kellyprt1 · 03/01/2020 09:51

@unicornPuff my Amh was low for my age too mine was 5.2 and I am 27. So hard to hear.
I'm on 450 gonal f.
That's good that your get one frozen too. Postcode lottery this is my only chance funded.
As my problem is ovulation.. I'm thinking If this doesn't work out I might try medicated cycle so still gonal f but low dose one good follicle and then trigger shot.
Did you afc match up with your amh?

Minster2012 · 03/01/2020 10:31

We are self funded as it worked the first time. We never asked how many goes we got that time as we had to pay for half of that as NHS don’t support surrogacy so we got my EC & embryo creation on NHS & storage costs once frozen as it was chemo related so medical reasons but transfer & all drugs for my best friend we had to pay for & all her testing & HEFA stuff as well as the drugs for the actual FET. We got 2 embryos We used 1 & 1 worked to get our son
2nd lot of EC& creation we paid for & got 3 more embryos
So we are all self funded private this time FET to me

BambiOnIce80 · 03/01/2020 10:40

Excellent news on your lining @UnicornPuff! 🤩 Welcome to stims!! 🎉🥳

UnicornPuff · 03/01/2020 10:53

@kellyprt1 I have not been told what my AFC is. I have a copy of all my bloods from the hospital but not from the clinic. It makes you feel a little lost as I dont even know the questions to ask! Other than people talking about AMH online I wouldnt have even known to ask. I go back next friday for a progress scan so I will ask if they have done AFC.
I know and I felt quite positive until the AMH and now I dont know if we will even have anything to freeze! I am sure this is buserelin negativity as I am normally more positive.
I dont know if my clinic offer the natural cycles but if this doesn't work with low AMH we cant be chucking eggs away!

41trying · 03/01/2020 11:10

@UnicornPuff. Did they not tell you about AFC in first scan? When I went to another clinic they didnt do mine or my AMH as I was doing a natural/mild cycle then lowest drugs on short protocol. This time different clinic they did scan AFC then AMH blood test to see what drugs they needed to put me on. As I'm 42 Dr thought I would be on highest dose, but with AFC of 11 and bloods came back good for my age, they put me on 300 dose. Again I think every clinic is so different.

LottSE20 · 03/01/2020 11:21

@Minster2012 that’s such a lovely positive story, crossing my fingers you can carry this time

@BaileyBadger4 I’m NHS funded. in my area (Bromley) you get one cycle and up to two FETs. There’s no waiting list but you have to have been trying for 3 years or have a diagnosed issue. We have been trying for 3 years..

@UnicornPuff great news you are starting stimms! Are you excited?!

I had my day 5 scan today. I have one follicle at 14 and others around 6-9 so it’s working, but they want to put me on fyremadel today to make sure I don’t accidentally ovulate. They said I have some fluid in my uterus and if it doesn’t go away they might have to freeze my embryos and transfer in a different cycle. Will be a bit disappointed if so but just praying for eggs and embryos right now!

Lily999 · 03/01/2020 11:42

Hiya, happy new year!
We get 3 full cycles (fresh and FET) on NHS I consider ourselves very lucky, this will be out first ever cycle.
Did have 3 unsuccessful IUI's due to mild MFI (motility is 29%).
Starting IVF at the end of next week (AF is due on Sunday so we have about a week before we start). It was actually good to have Christmas and New Years before as time flew by and now we can get ready. Drinking wasn't great obviously, but hopefully that won't affect our chances too much. I am down to one coffee a day and actually skipped even that one in the last two days so might be able to leave it completely. No more drinking last one was NYE.
Welcome @Rovera12 I take you are on the short protocol then? Was your lining thin enough?

Minster2012 · 03/01/2020 11:50

Wow all these 3 cycles that’s greaT! @LottSE20 yes I am carrying this time, well, trying!
@lily999 I’m still drinking until my transfer, being sensible but not denying myself!

Lily999 · 03/01/2020 12:43

@Minster2012 that did make me feel better, as last time I had drinks was the 31st I sort of thought no booze for January would be a good resolution haha, for me giving up coffee will be more difficult to be honest.
Did they say you can mix alcohol with the meds or since it's FET you don't need to take anything at all before transfer?

BambiOnIce80 · 03/01/2020 12:46

Glad to hear your follicles are looking good @LottSE20 , but sorry to hear about the curve ball of the fluid 💐 Hopefully it'll resolve before your next scan and be a non-issue 🤞🏻I'm like you, just hoping to get some fertilised eggs to work with - fresh or frozen! 🥚❄

Welcome @Rovera12 👋 How did your stims jab go last night?

@Lily999 @Minster2012 I'll be 4 weeks sober on Tuesday... I know it makes me sound like I'm doing the 12 steps or something! 😂 Definitely thinking about having a cheeky gin and tonic between EC and ET though 💭🍸😋

Lily999 · 03/01/2020 12:56

@BambiOnIce80 well done, must have been difficult over Xmas and Hogmanay.. Could you maybe photocopy the med sheet to make it look better for Tuesday?
@LottSE20 I hope the liquid will be gone by your next scan. Have they told you if they need to freeze it all whether you can have a transfer in the next cycle or would you have to wait for longer?

BambiOnIce80 · 03/01/2020 13:08

No problem at all @Lily999 - I'll tip the kitten off of it and do it when I get home! 😼👍 They might or might not use the same one across Scotland, but it'll give you an idea at least 😘
