Dec/ Jan IVF support

Hi all,

I can't see a thread for Dec/ Jan yet - maybe because a lot of clinics shut over the holidays - but mine doesn't! Anyone else out there starting in December and want to support each other? This will be my first round so I'm pretty nervous! X

yes, it will be internal but nothing to worry about @jcurve

41trying · 02/01/2020 10:27

@Jcurve welcome, yes your scan will be internal, but dont worry, they are used to it all.

BaileyBadger4 · 02/01/2020 10:35

Hi guys 👋 Happy New Year to you all 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣0️⃣

So I'm on day 10 of DR injections and have first DR scan booked in for Tuesday

BaileyBadger4 · 02/01/2020 10:39

Sorry it posted before I'd finished writing! Lol

DR scan on Tuesday 🤞 hoping for a thin lining but had quite a light AF which lasted only 2 days over Christmas so really hoping will be thin enough.

Had such a quiet Xmas and new year. Not a drop of alcohol has touched my lips! 😱

OH and I went to the cinema yesterday - hangover free! Lol and it was lovely.

OH has gone back to work today after his Xmas break so just did the injection all by myself 🙋‍♀️ lol was absolutely fine.

Did your guys OH's come to all your scans etc with you? Xx

LottSE20 · 02/01/2020 10:58

Hi all. I had my first ever 1 Jan without a hangover. It was actually lovely!

I heard there was negligible difference between fresh and frozen - I think the reason frozen can be more successful is that your body has had chance to calm down a bit and the assumption is that those embryos who have made it through the freezing process are likely to be more successful. But I’m not sure it’s that well evidenced so lots of reasons to be positive!

I can’t believe how many different approaches there are! I started Menopur on Tues (CD2) and have another scan tomorrow to assess progress. Likely EC is end of next week..

A friend text me today to ask how my IVF went. She assumed it happened in one visit. If only!

notReginaPhalange · 02/01/2020 11:48

@BaileyBadger4 how are you feeling on day 10 of DR? Any side effects? I did my first injection today, it feels surreal...

UnicornPuff · 02/01/2020 12:03

@BambiOnIce80 congratulations on starting stims today! I have my scan tomorrow so will hopefully join you all on saturday! On buserelin since 17th dec, AF was delayed and didnt seem heavier or longer so getting myself a little worked up. Which I know is silly but all rationality seems to have left especially on the buserelin!

notReginaPhalange · 02/01/2020 12:10

@LottSE20 Lol about the friend. That's why I don't tell anyone. They have no idea what it takes. One said to me I'm there to support you - and started asking questions on a regular basis - as if this is support. Other people avoid any topics about babies, pregnancies etc - as if that's support too!!

How to explain that support is when they create some fun for us, encourage us to do something fun to take our mind off it. Like going shopping, cinema, coffee shop - anything. It's not asking about it every day and certainly not avoiding the topic as if it doesn't exist!

PineappleC · 02/01/2020 12:15

@Kellyprt1 Thanks 😊 oh yes sorry I mean I start taking the pill on cd3 which I think is the same as down-regulating? I think they said I start the nasal spray from 28 Jan, so that'll be about day 21 or so too! The timetable is all a bit of a blur at the moment!

@BambiOnIce80 Thank you! I feel I just mastered all the technicalities of normal TTC, and now there's a load of brand new info to learn for IVF 😅 Hope your time on the stims goes well!

BaileyBadger4 · 02/01/2020 12:18

@notReginaPhalange I actually feel fine tbh! I've been really hot at night but just put the fan on to combat that Smile I asked my OH if he thinks my moods changed and he said not at all! So that's good Lol I've been feeling a bit stressed out and emotional but I think that's more down to my personality tbh and anxieties about the whole process in general, rather than the DR injections, as I've felt that way pretty much whole way through 😂 If anything, doing the DR injections has calmed me slightly as I now know things are moving along xx

LottSE20 · 02/01/2020 12:36

@notReginaPhalange I know, I really wish I hadn’t. How do I stop them all asking questions now without being rude? I know they are trying to be supportive but I don’t really want to share blow by blow!

Congratulations to those who are starting stimms (and fingers crossed to those about to start!)

Minster2012 · 02/01/2020 12:49

That’s why we don’t tell ppl either, my MIL thinks it means you get a baby. Full stop. Despite us telling her from our first the horrible odds she is terrible & tells EVERYONE. My OH calls her “a leaking tap”, it doesn’t help the 2 couples she knows to have had IVF it has worked first time.

@lottSE20 maybe say now “it’s pretty complicated and quite painful to do & discuss, can we change the subject?” They’ll soon stop asking I think.

My OH won’t be coming to either of my scans tomorrow or the one to check my lining to set date for transfer, it’s just not feasible. Unfortunately our 17 month old has to come with me tomorrow for my scan which I hate the idea of but can’t be avoided. #awkward I will want to say loudly in the waiting room “he was a result of 1st IVF here!”

BambiOnIce80 · 02/01/2020 12:49

Try not to get worked up @UnicornPuff - my AF was less heavy than normal and lasted the same amount of days and my lining was still well under the 4mm 👍 Were you on the pill before starting buserelin? I think that keeps the lining thinner than normal so that AF isn't as heavy, if that makes sense? Please report back on how you get on tomorrow 🙂

I've been having epic night sweats for the full 7 days I've been on buserelin @BaileyBadger4! 🥵 I'm hoping the gonal-F will calm it down! 🤞🏻

LottSE20 · 02/01/2020 13:46

@Minster2012 I can see why that will feel awkward, but I wouldn’t worry about what other people think (and your son is a good example of it working!).

Good advice on what to say to friends. And my Mum sounds a lot like your MiL. Every time I see her she says ‘I was talking to soandso and she said her friend/cousin/daughter had IVF and it worked first time’ Hmm

Sabz36 · 02/01/2020 14:03

Hey Everyone

Had my first nurse consultation and base line scan at Kings. Went surprisingly well. They said my lining was ok, and follicle count was also good. I'm starting oestrogen today until AF next week. Then I start stims woohoo. The teaching session was surprisingly simple but I hate belly shots so maybe not celebrating yet.

It all appears to move very fast. I feel slightly overwhelmed

Fredsgirl19 · 02/01/2020 14:11

Happy New Year ladies!!
I was due to start stimms tomorrow on short protocol but when I called the clinic this morning they said they can’t do it this month. I’m feeling pretty gutted about it. I’ve been preparing for it to start this month but hey ho. Such is the infertility rollercoaster.

notReginaPhalange · 02/01/2020 14:19

why can't they @Fredsgirl19 ? I thought they would plan it in advance?

Fredsgirl19 · 02/01/2020 14:24

They moved locations and said they need more time to get used to their new labs so are reducing the amount they do in January. So gutted as I called them last week and no mention of that at all! And we worked with them to facilitate the move of my husbands sperm from the hospital to the clinic so they knew my period due date etc and still no mention. It definitely caught me off guard this morning

UnicornPuff · 02/01/2020 16:06

@BambiOnIce80 I didnt have the pill started buserelin on day 21. I keep telling myself not to get worked up because I cant change it anyway and in comparison to the previous waits an extra week is nothing! That's my outward rationale my internal is not so calm!
Plus I am not enjoying the side effects of the buserelin!

UnicornPuff · 02/01/2020 16:40

@Fredsgirl19 I am so sorry to hear that. It's worth asking them why they didnt communicate any of this with you. They must realise the anxiety all of their patients are having. It's about managing expectations and they didnt do that well at all!

Minster2012 · 02/01/2020 16:49

Hello new joiners!
Completely agree that’s rubbish @Fredsgirl19 especially not saying last week

Good news for @sabs36! We were overwhelmed too as we had been with the clinic before & were just waiting on getting a letter from my oncology team to be on file (which took months) as soon as it was we phoned & it went straight from there when I was on my period our first appointment included my scan on day whatever of AF then we got potential dates through the post....we couldn’t remember the procedures & was trying to avoid google so it wasn’t ideal we had to ask them to call us to tell us the procedures! But they were v busy so I think that didn’t help

Nmvasey · 02/01/2020 16:59

Oh lots of progress today! Sorry @Fredsgirl19 that isn’t great and very frustrating I’m sure.

It sounds like a lot of you have a pen for stimming. I start tomorrow and mine seems complicated... I have a vile with water and then I have to put the solution into 3 individual viles and let the tablet dissolve into the water. Also have to snap the glass with the water in with this plastic device. I’m worried I’m going to do something wrong! Anyone else had/having to do this?

Great news @BambiOnIce80 you’re on your way!

41trying · 02/01/2020 17:25

@@Nmvasey that sounds complicated. I have used the pen before and it was very easy. I have to mix powder with water then pull the amount out with separate vile. 4 days worth in one pot, so basically mixing every 4 days slightly easier than what your doing.
Day 3 of stims for me today and I think my mood is slightly better, so bring in the next few days. I think the days are going fairly quickly, but that also means work is looming for Monday. Next scan and bloods are Monday, so secretly wanting it to go quickly.
Hope everyone is ok?

BambiOnIce80 · 02/01/2020 17:30

Oh, that's horribly frustrating @Fredsgirl19 😔 I've fallen foul of the twice yearly lab shutdown twice, so I know what a let down it is when you're not expecting it 💐

That sounds like there's a bit of prep to get your head around @Nmvasey, but I'm sure it'll be less daunting once you get going with it. I've had to do that kind of thing for work, but not for absolutely ages! How long do the vials last once they're reconstituted? Hopefully you won't have to do it every day 🤞🏻

Mrbay · 02/01/2020 17:36

hi all, sorry its taken me a while to catch up.

Can I just say, I HATE BUSERELIN! Also, wish my period would hurry up, so I can start the next stage and start to see my mood rise.

I must get on and book acupuncture, not sure if it will help but I can claim the via work so it's not going to cost me anything. Thankfully!
