Hi all,

I can't see a thread for Dec/ Jan yet - maybe because a lot of clinics shut over the holidays - but mine doesn't! Anyone else out there starting in December and want to support each other? This will be my first round so I'm pretty nervous! X

@41trying have your clinic said they wont scan if AF hasn't started? Mine told me to turn up if I had or hadn't had AF as they wanted to scan to see what was going on either way. I did some google research (the most reliable!) And it almost seems consistent that on buserelin AF is either early or late. Would it put your schedule back lots because of christmas closing etc?
I am on day 3 of buserelin and had night sweats (nothing today) and some spotting. AF not due till the 25th.

Lily999 · 19/12/2019 12:05

Hi Ladies, sorry for disappearing in this "end of the year rush" work is going crazy.
@BambiOnIce80 thanks, Xmas night out was great, I was actually holding back on drinking, only allowed myself a few glasses of red and 2 cocktails as I did have the treatment in the back of my mind, but it was a great night!
Big news I have as the information pack arrived yesterday whoop whoop! It says I have to call the clinic when my next period starts and then have to go to the clinic for a scan 2 days after that, on day 3 of my cycle. If there are no cysts and my lining is good I can start injections the same day. IT seems so quick and fast, no easing onto the whole thing with down regulation etc, but right in the middle of jabbing!
So I am apparently on the short protocol (my AMH was 20.5 at the beginning of the year that is relatively high for my age -I am 34), so they worry I would go into OHSS thus getting the short protocol as I am expected to respond well to stimulation and they don't want too many eggs, but rater good quality ones.
Anyone else is on the short protocol by any chance?
So we are starting in 3weeks time and the entire process will be done and dusted by the beginning of Feb!
@41trying sorry no experience with Bruserlin, but I did have IUI's and a lap surgery, any sort of medication that messes up our hormones can really confuse AF, sorry...

41trying · 19/12/2019 12:08

@UnicornPuff. I have called clinic to put my mind at rest. They only close xmas day and boxing day so all good. A nurse is going to call me back later anyway. They said sometimes they can give you something to make AF come. So I'll just wait and see

Chooklass · 19/12/2019 12:31

Hi @Lily999 , I will be on short protocol for same reasons and around the same time! (If all straightforward with my cervix op tomorrow...)

Hi @Chooklass, that's so nice to hear! Do you know your AMH? I am so confused as everyone else is on the long protocol (this will be our first ever round of IVF). So far what I found is that less eggs are to be expected on the short protocol, but it is milder as there will be less drugs and hormones involved. Also that the due date is pretty much the same as if you were to fall pregnant naturally as they are following your usual natural cycle just enhancing the development/growth of follicles.
What is a cervix op? xxx

UnicornPuff · 19/12/2019 13:50

@41trying at least if anything it will be days rather then weeks. I have this continuous anxiety that something else will delay everything!
We have been TTC for 5 years finding out around 18 months ago we had MFI and it has taken us till October this year to get to the IVF clinic. All the delays make you want to cry! Even more than I am sure we all already have!

Chooklass · 19/12/2019 16:03

@Lily999 My AMH is 22 and I'm 38, so it's pretty high - good on one hand but like you, makes me high risk of OHS. I had my transfer trial on Tues and couldn't get through my cervix, so I'm having an op to 'open' it tomorrow under anaesthetic!

Lily999 · 19/12/2019 16:18

@Chooklass that makes sense.. What bugs me a bit is that I had a lap surgery and that lowers AMH as the ovaries take is as a "trauma" as the doctor said, so now my AMH dropped to 15,2 but I am still on the short protocol.... Do you think it will be an issue? The new level of AMH doesn't seem high for my age, it is within the normal range.
Good luck for the op tomorrow, let us know how it went, it will be like a trial egg collection then!

41trying · 19/12/2019 16:50

@UnicornPuff after all the worrying and calling the clinic AF arrived while out shopping today. So I have to call clinic first thing, so hopefully DR scan will be Tuesday.

@Lily999 I have done short protocol and didnt do any DR and only took meds for 7 days

Chooklass · 19/12/2019 17:04

@Lily999 15 still sounds like a good AMH? I don't know much about it though! Thanks, am pretty nervous but yes - same drugs and theatre as egg recovery so at least I'll know what to expect!

Hope everything goes well tomorrow @Chooklass 🍀 I'll be sending positive vibes your way 💓

Glad you had a good Christmas do @Lily999 🍾🥂😉 That's interesting about laps knocking the AMH down a bit. I'm 39 and mine is 10.4, so still in the normal range for my age but enough to justify a long protocol. My AFC isn't bad (14) so I guess we'll see what happens when we get going with the stims 🤞🏻

Glad to hear that AF has turned up in time @41trying - hope you got your scan sorted 🙂

I hope I can get your guys thoughts on a mini dilemma I'm having (you really are the only ones who'll get it!). I'm turning 40 in May and my friends and I decided it'd be nice to get a cottage in the UK to celebrate. Started looking and it's crazy expensive because it's a bank holiday weekend 😏 We've found something perfect, but it's a less than 4 hour flight away... So. My question is, would you book it when there's a possibility of being in the second trimester of pregnancy in May?! I've been TTC for so long that I haven't let it stop me from booking things and making plans for a good number of years, but now there's a bit of a chance I'm kind of hesitant 🤷‍♀️ Am I being stupid booking myself onto a flight when I might be in the second trimester or is that perfectly acceptable and I'm overthinking things ... Thoughts please! 💭

Cisco2 · 19/12/2019 18:22

Hi everyone, can I join? I’ll be having my first consultation on 2nd Jan after a failed embryo transfer. Just making my place but will catch up and read through the thread to see how everyone is getting on so far Smile

Chooklass · 19/12/2019 18:24

@BambiOnIce80 I always book stuff now - avoided things in the beginning and it just made me sad when the event came round and I still wasn't pregnant. The way I see it now is if I book and get pregnant then it's a small price to pay for being pregnant, and if I'm not pregnant then I have something fun to look forward to 😊

OP posts:
Nmvasey · 19/12/2019 18:54

@BambiOnIce80 would you still go pregnant? Could you add on as you’re going to know either way in a few more weeks? I’d be inclined to say fo for it if not

Sabz36 · 19/12/2019 19:09

@Cisco2 I have my appointment on 2nd too but it's the nurse one where they talk about injections

Mrbay · 19/12/2019 20:15

@BambiOnIce80 - I would just check the NHS direct website but I'm pretty sure it's ok to fly.
I know what you mean about forward planning, I treated myself to a summer dress today and then thought bugger, hopefully it won't fit this summer!

BambiOnIce80 · 19/12/2019 20:35

Thank you so much for your thoughts @Chooklass @Nmvasey @Mrbay 💖 It would be a fantastic thing to look forward to if/when it doesn't work, but I also think I'd probably fly in the second trimester... but I'm not sure because it's sooooo hypothetical! 🤯 The NHS Choices website says that the second trimester is a good time to do short haul air travel "if the pregnancy is uncomplicated", but we obviously wouldn't know if it was uncomplicated or not until the second trimester... Anyone got a crystal ball I can borrow?! 🔮 DP's quite keen to book it now that's he's read the NHS Choices website, so I think we'll sleep on it and see if everything becomes clear in the morning 👍

I've been really tempted by the Reiss sale too @Mrbay , but I've managed to resist so far using the logic that with any luck I won't fit into my usual size if this works out! 🤞🏻

Welcome @Cisco2 👋 I've got my first scan on the 2nd of Jan to see if I can start the stims jabs, so sounds like the 2nd is going to be an interesting one for a few of us! 😄

Lily999 · 20/12/2019 11:18

Hi @BambiOnIce80, I guess I will just go with what the doctor suggests and hope for the best outcome with the short protocol. I was quite pleased when I found out, but at the same time a bit anxious as everyone else seem to be on the long one... But at the same time happy to get to EC and ET more than a month sooner than originally planned (as the long protocol starts on the 21st day of my cycle, this one starts on the 3rd day.
My friend flew even in the 3rd trimester as she went into a kind of "try to do everything before the baby arrives" crazyness, but she was totally fine and unless you go to a very remote place or a danger zone I'd say you should be fine. I would look for the proximity of the nearest hospital just to give me a peace of mind.
@Chooklass how did you get on this morning, hope everything is ok!
@41trying would you mind me asking more about your experience with the short protocol? Thank you very much! xx

41trying · 20/12/2019 11:38

DR scan booked for Tuesday and if all good start meds and EC a week later.
@Lily999 I did a short natural/Mild cycle before, one week meds EC, unfortunately only one egg collected and wasnt mature so didnt make it to transfer. This happened twice, so decide to try a new clinic that only does long protocol, so hopefully they collect more eggs

Lily999 · 20/12/2019 11:48

Thanks @41trying, that is a ted bit concerning, do you remember what your AMH was? And what injections did you get?

Mrbay · 20/12/2019 12:03

good luck @41trying :)

I had the call today to say my meds will be arriving next week, can't say I'm looking forward to cyclogest again or the burselin blues - honestly that stuff does not like me at all! I'm hoping the 3rd transfer is a charm as our clinic at a 90% success rate after 3 transfers.

@lily999 - please don't get hung up on AMH levels, mine are really low for my age, like 2.1 low (I'm 32!) but I got 3 eggs and all 3 made it to day-5, its quality over quantity. Others that I spoke to when I was cycling for EC, increased their protein which in turn increased their egg quality.

If anyone is interested, I have been emailed a copy of It Starts With An Egg, holla if you would like me to email this to you as well.

Lily999 · 20/12/2019 13:39

Thank you @Mrbay for giving me hope, fingers crossed the short protocol will work on my ovaries... :)
90% success rate is quite impressive! When do you start?
Thank you, I bought that book, however must admit I didn't like it as much as I expected to. It was very dry and somehow gave me confusing information here and there... I loved His and Hers guide for IVF, that was one of the best books I have read and even Hubby got hooked (only read the HIS sections haha).
I will try and eat more protein, thanks for the tip!

notReginaPhalange · 20/12/2019 14:25

I'm starting Buserelin on day 1 of my period, weird, everyone else here started on day 21. Oh well, I'm sure they know what they are doing.
Question ladies, is it ok to have an odd glass of wine whilst on Buserelin? I will have to start on the NY eve.

41trying · 20/12/2019 14:28

@lily999 I agree with MrBay, everyone is different and they tried the natural cycle has before sterlization no problems and no underlining problems now. I was on low dose Bemfola 150.

Lily999 · 20/12/2019 14:30

Hi @notReginaPhalange, I wouldn't think it causes trouble on your first day as the hormones will take some time to reach your system.
My information pack does say stay away from alcohol during and before treatment, but I think it is something they need to put there... One glass of red can be beneficial as it calms your nerves and helps your blood flow! :)
