October ICSI/IVF

Hi all,

I have never written a post on here but thought it may be nice to get a thread going for anyone about to start ICSI/IVF. I am 28 and have been ttc for almost a year and have recently found out my husband has a very low sperm count (2 million) and ICSI is our only option. I was sure for so long something must be wrong with me so to find out it was him was a complete shock and I think we are both still adjusting. Fortunately we are able to go private and have my appointment to get the ball rolling on Wednesday. I have had a (all clear) and all of the bloods already so hoping we can get cracking next month so I am eager to get started. Everything is apparently fine with me apart from very mild pcos which I have been told shouldn’t effect my chances! I am still very anxious about the whole situation and just praying that the process will be successful.

If anyone has any tips or is in the same boat feel free to join!

@PotatoJam my clinic didn't do any blood tests either, Monday will be the first time I've seen them since my embryo transfer on 26th October! They don't do viability scan until 8 weeks either.
Regarding morning sickness, so far just nausea, no vomiting.

I have had lower abdominal pain in and off but more with certain movement or twisting, presuming it's my ovaries being a bit big still.

I've managed to pick up a cold now which is annoying, just an annoying cough at the mo, but it's keeping me awake at night! Got my work Xmas do tonight, hope I stay awake 😴

By the way @NS05 great news on your HCG levels!

NS05 · 30/11/2019 08:40

Thanks! I'm private so I have to pay about £150 every time for progesterone and hcg which does add up! But they make you do one at 10 days post transfer and one at 12 to see if your levels are doubling which they should in a 48 hour period. I was freaking out about the spotting so had another one! It's more for piece of mind but I'm sure you guys will be just fine!

I'm so glad we've got this group, I've found out loads about what's to come! Really glad your levels have doubled @NS05 and you feel a bit better now. Hope everyone else is ok today xx

Getting worried today as had a light pink discharge when I wiped. Hoping nothing bad going on, haven't had any other different symptoms. I know it can be normal, but you just get so paranoid! At least I have my scan tmrw, just hope all okay. How is everyone else?

NS05 · 01/12/2019 15:59

@LucyLucyT I had exactly the same! Three days of pink then one day of brown- then it went! I think as long as no cramping it's fine! It is terrifying I was hysterical but everything I read said it can be breakthrough bleeding/late implantation bleeding, there is so much going on in your body I'm sure all will be ok! Is it your 6 week scan tmo?

Also tomorrow get them to check your progesterone level- mine was slightly low so they upped my dose which I think helps get rid of spotting!

I'm not sure if they do bloods, I'm on the NHS but I'll see what they say. It's 8 weeks tmrw for me. It seems to almost have settled already but I guess I'll just have to monitor it.

NS05 · 01/12/2019 16:32

I'm sure it will be fine @LucyLucyT especially if it's settled down! Let us know how you get on tomorrow I'm sure everything will be perfect!

All the best for your scan tomorrow @LucyLucyT! Xxx

LucyLucyT · 01/12/2019 23:06

Thanks, feeling sick with nerves now, had a little more of the same pink discharge this evening, just a little bit in a pad. Really hope things are okay, guess I'll know soon.

LucyLucyT · 02/12/2019 11:03

Just got back from my scan, we have a nice little bean with the beginnings of a fluttering heart. Measuring 8 weeks exactly which is what I am today. Not sure why the pink discharge but the fertility nurse said quite a lot of people get it. Hopefully I don't get much more with any luck. Next step midwife booking appointment on Thursday.

NS05 · 02/12/2019 11:26

Thank goodness @LucyLucyT !! I think you can get it when you are due on as breakthrough bleeding - I got it at 4 weeks and won't be surprised if I get it at 8 weeks and 12 weeks as I've read with ivf it's very common for some reason! That's such good news so happy for you!!

LucyLucyT · 02/12/2019 12:07

@NS05 thanks very much, yeah I wondered about breakthrough bleeding. Nothing today so far, so fingers crossed it's settled. I'm so relieved, but still can't help but worry, I guess that's how it'll be all the way through to some degree! They confirmed my ovaries are still on the large side with a few big follicles, one was 21mm, that explains why I get twinges when I twist on certain ways or cough (got an annoying cold the mo!) Should all settle in time though. Hope you are doing okay :-)

NS05 · 02/12/2019 12:10

Honestly it's the most stressful time! I've had the worst anxiety ever!! I think if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks your chances of miscarriage are less than 2 percent so that's great news for you! Have my 6 week scan next Tuesday so just need to stay calm until then.

@LucyLucyT such good news about your scan! Glad you've had some reassurance!!
Transfer day tomorrow for me!!

LucyLucyT · 02/12/2019 22:18

@Naughtyboob very best of luck, hope it's a sticky one! xx

Naughtyboob · 02/12/2019 22:25

Thank you Grin xx

PotatoJam · 02/12/2019 22:30

All the best for tomorrow @naughtyboob!

@LucyLucyT thats great news!!

siananigans · 02/12/2019 23:46

Great news @LucyLucyT!!

Good luck tomorrow@Naughtyboob

I'm just plodding on here, feel in a bit of a limbo what with all the activity with meds and appointments for ivf to being able / having to do so little now, it's really bizarre. My 12 week scan is on the 12th so not long now.
I've still been feeling incredibly tired, but my nausea has definitely eased unless I don't eat immediately when hungry, then I feel very sick.
I've been getting sharp twinges if I sneeze or cough, but the midwife said this was normal and not to worry. Its to do with all the muscles and tendons/ligaments around the womb relaxing due to hormone level increases.

NS05 · 03/12/2019 07:41

Glad everyone is ok!! Good luck @Naughtyboob !! Xxx
