Anyone on Letrozole?

1000 replies

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

@unknownscot that's great news about the clinic! Glad they've fixed it for you. Is it soon? Relieving for you to have some news!!

Me and my OH just came out of our appt. Consultant basically said it's time to start IVF as after three rounds of letrozole not working, 2 years of trying naturally and my age now it'll give us the best chance. But then he said our borough are reviewing their policy and might start funding one round from April onwards. So our choice now is to a) do two more months of letrozole and then go for 1 round of IVF funded here and then go private (as it's unlikely to work first time) b) pay for IVF now and just get on with it or C) move house, try letrozole during that month and then do IVF funded there.
Decision time today!

Oh my goodness @Sylva123 that would be so amazing if they did!!!! They need to!
How come it probably won't work first time? X

Sylva123 · 06/02/2020 15:40

@Carleyxo from what I've read the first round is usually them trying to figure out what meds etc your body needs. It can work first time, but more like to need 2 or 3 goes.

Carleyxo · 06/02/2020 17:19

Oh I see I never knew that... my friends who have had it worked first time but maybe they were just lucky. I think a lot of it is down to the clinic aswell and how thorough they are. All fingers crossed for you. What option do you think you're edging towards x

Sylva123 · 06/02/2020 18:47

Oh that's really promising to hear @Carleyxo. I'd love it if it only took one go. I think I'm too tired and emotional to even know what my gut is saying today (got myself in a tizz this morning about the BFN & the appt). We've done a pros and cons list and we're going to leave it for a few days and come back to it. Part of me keeps thinking about how he said we should just do IVF right now for our best chance, part of me thinks of waiting for 2 months to see what happens with the last packs of letrozole. But then I'll be 37. We started all this when I was 34... I'm getting nervous about my age.

How are you feeling now? Are you on the mend? When are you due to test/AF? Xx

Carleyxo · 06/02/2020 18:50

I really feel for you, giving it a couple of days is a good idea as right now you must be so torn.

I would say if sperm is great and you ovulate using medication I can't see why IVF wouldn't work for you.

I'm off work today and maybe tomorrow feeling so rough can't believe it, taken so many tablets which I never do so hating that as it can't be great especially during TWW. Never mind hey. Lost so much money too which is not great.

Period is due around 14th but probably more 16/17th as ovulation was later. @Sylva123 x

AfterGlow87 · 06/02/2020 19:30

Hi all, sorry been MIA again! Work mental. Loads of catching up to do. @Sylva123 Some decisions to make! But there’s no reason as to why it wouldn’t work out first time for you! There’s zero funding where I live so everything private.

I’m feeling “off” myself, wrecked tired and stomach feeling iffy. I’m only 7dpo so realistically it’s only the progesterone making me feel that! I’m going to try not test until AF due, it always comes on time so I’ve never got to a day later!

Sylva123 · 07/02/2020 07:50

Oh no @Carleyxo that's so awful. What an awful time to catch an illness. What about your salon award - is it coming up soon? Hope u feel better today.

@AfterGlow87 the funding thing is so upsetting isn't it. Adds a lot of stress to things when money gets involved. Hope you're able to wait to test on the day AF is due! I don't let myself test early but then I go nuts and use all my tests at once in disbelief that they're all negative 😹 .Just another week to go for you 🤞. Good luck & hope work calms down.

Carleyxo · 07/02/2020 07:51

Feeling much better today just more cold symptoms which I'm fine with thank goodness. The awards event isn't until mid March so I'm glad. How are you today @Sylva123 x

Sylva123 · 07/02/2020 08:00

That's good @Carleyxo, glad you're feeling better & loads of time to get well before the event. Awful about the money though. I guess in your line of work it really impacts things when you're off.

I'm feeling rubbish this morning trying to make a decision about what to do next. I've just been googling for the last hour - success rates, how it all works, trying to look at calendars to figure it all out. Edging towards doing one more go of letrozole and then paying for IVF in march here, without moving house. If it doesn't work hopefully the funding will have changed by round 2. Its a scary step to take.

AfterGlow87 · 07/02/2020 08:15

So I gave in and tested this morning - I’m only 8dpo so no idea why! I think I’ve either got an evap or very very faint squinter...it did appear within the 3 minutes but it’s a blue dye so prob an evap - I’ve never gotten so much as a hint of a positive or evap before so I’m unsure. Why do I do this to myself 🙈 I’m 9 days post trigger so I suppose always a small chance it’s that 🤔 it was my only test so waiting it out until Wednesday when I’m due.

@sylva that sounds like a good plan! Having to move etc might only add to any stress. Sometimes I wish someone could just tell me the decisions, less stressful than having to make them myself.

Carleyxo · 07/02/2020 08:19

It certainly does :-( one whole weeks money pretty much.
What did your consultant say about how IVF would work for you as a couple? I think giving letrozole another go is a good idea considering your reacting well to it not, will they monitor you?
Is there anyone you can chat to privately about how much ivf will cost? X

Carleyxo · 07/02/2020 08:19

Ohhhh @AfterGlow87 I hope it is! X

Sylva123 · 07/02/2020 08:36

@AfterGlow87 yes I so wish someone else could make all the big decisions for us, with a 100% guarantee that whatever they choose is going to work!

That's exciting about the faint line! Hope it's the real thing 🤞🤞

@carleyxo yes he said we'd responded well to it. And it gives us a month to get used to the idea of IVF. A thread on here said most ppl had spent on average £35k but I think that was for lots of rounds. He said one round would be £4.5k and we could get a loan for that. Then if funding goes through we'd get the next round free on the NHS. It would mean doing IVF on my birthday in march! I wish I didn't have the time pressure of my age. What I really want is a long holiday to recover from all of this!

Carleyxo · 07/02/2020 20:59

Oh bless you :( £4.5k is a lot easier to think about than £35k! And if you've responded well to letrozole sure you would with the IVF drugs? Oh that's exciting it could happen In the next two months though! @Sylva123 x

HarrietM87 · 08/02/2020 07:55

@AfterGlow87 fingers massively crossed for you but just to say that I get faint lines on tests from the trigger shot until 9dpo. It’s always gone by 10dpo but apparently for some people it can take until 12dpo. 8dpo would be very early for a bfp so even if it is the trigger it doesn’t mean you are out at all!

HarrietM87 · 08/02/2020 07:56

@Sylva123 that sounds really positive re the IVF!

AfterGlow87 · 08/02/2020 11:36

Ah thanks everyone but yes I think right to assume it’s from the trigger! Best to wait out until my period late I think and try not to read into every little symptom

JadeS174 · 10/02/2020 21:07

Hi all. New to this forum but have previously been on a forum about Clomid. Can see some girls that I've previously chatted with are on here.

So bit of background on me. Been trying for 15 months. On my 3rd cycle of Clomid due to not ovulating. Husband SA fine.
Today I had my 3rd follicle tracking scan. There were 2 large dominant follicles on the left ovary and 1 a bit smaller on the right. However my womb lining isn’t thick enough; today was 4mm. Consultant said it may thicken over the coming days but if not I’ve been switched to Letrazole to try.
Just here for some support and hope to hear success stories on Letrazole. X

Carleyxo · 10/02/2020 22:15

Hey @JadeS174 it's great you're responding so well to clomid. Unfortunately it also thinned my lining which is quite common so I'm now on letrozole.

I get no side effects which is great compared to the clomid ones x

JadeS174 · 10/02/2020 22:48

Hi @Carleyxo
Yes feeling positive that I ovulated every month on Clomid it's just a shame it thinned my lining. Hoping I get on better with the Letrazole 🤞🏼 x

Carleyxo · 11/02/2020 15:26

How you feeling @Sylva123 ,

LongtermTTC · 11/02/2020 17:06

Hi ladies, sorry I’ve not posted for a while - was just trying to give myself a bit of a break from obsessing over baby making before I get back into the cycle of scans, triggers and the dreaded TWW.

@Sylva123 that’s good news about NHS coverage hopefully coming in soon but annoying that you have to wait for it to come in. Is there a wait list for treatment under the NHS (especially if they’ve just extended the criteria) or, as it’s done at a private clinic anyway, can you get in straight away in April? Have you made any more decisions about next steps and have you started your next cycle of letrozole yet? I think what you suggested sounds like a good plan - the only “risk” being if it’s successful first time around and you think if could’ve waited and got it free on the NHS but then you’d be so overjoyed at being pregnant that you wouldn’t care!

I know what you mean about feeling the time pressure because of your age - I turn 38 in March so whilst part of me would love to take a step back and give myself and my body some time off I know the situation is only going to get worse if I leave it so have to keep pushing forward.

Off to an open evening at an IVF clinic now 😬 so will message more later... x

LongtermTTC · 11/02/2020 22:30

@Carleyxo how’re you holding up with the TWW? x

LongtermTTC · 11/02/2020 22:31

@AfterGlow87 any news?
