Hi all

Well, I’ve gone ahead and done something silly. I tested at 2dp5dt and it is a stark negative, not even a hint.

I know it’s early (less than 48 hours) but I feel like I’m already out as it’s 7 days before period would be due and all these tests say they have like 99% accuracy 6 days before and all this. Plus all the stuff you read online. Why do I do this to myself?!

On my first cycle (pregnancy, mmc at first scan) I didn’t test until beta and it was torture. But this might turn out to be worse!

Has anyone out there had a bfn at this stage and gone on to have a successful pregnancy? I need some hope!

Thanks all x

Good morning babe! I’m so happy to hear from you although wish it was under better circumstances 😞❤️ I can’t even imagine what you must have gone through and be going through now. But you know that you had no choice, you had to give consent. You did absolutely everything you could. How are you feeling now?

I’ve been winding myself up good and proper. Googling every tiny thing and obsessing over my heart rate. But the spotting stopped on Sunday morning, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

@Eggcellent29 thank you! I feel ok - sore more than anything but looks like at least I'll have symmetrical scarring on my stomach now - right side matches the left 🤣

Maybe it's the morphine but I woke up with the most random thought - that I'll only ever have sex for fun now - sex has been all about trying for a baby for so many years I don't remember the last time we did it just because the mood took us!

I know I've still got the option to do more ivf and we re lucky that we can afford definitely one more round and maybe one more after that. My surgeon said she was going to have a good look in there and tidy everything up so that we've got the best chance of ivf working in the future so I don't feel totally hopeless yet. Also been looking at holidays and maybe getting another cat to cheer myself up (my 3 other cats were baby substitutes so why not one more! 🤣)

Blimey! I’ve never seen an ectopic scar - are they big??

Haha! That’s a good attitude to have! Just like being a teenager again 😂🙈

That is good news about another round. We can afford one more round but will have to take a large break (like a year 😞) in between to recover financially first. And probably emotionally!

So do you have to go under again for the tidy up or did she already do it? Having a tidy up is such a strange image - I’m imagining lots of tiny brooms and feather dusters in there like in a Disney film 😂

Oh God a holiday sounds lovely!!! Where would you like to go? I’ve told the hubby that if this doesn’t go to plan I am getting either bunnies or a cat - the landlord can go to hell 😂 xx

@Eggcellent29
They are actually quite small - maybe the size of a 50p but a lot of them - 4 usually but they also had a look at where they removed the tube last year so they reopened last years ones.

They did laugh when I said if they could have a tidy up in there! 🤣 - they did it at the same time - they removed any older scar tissue/adhesions and then removed the stump that was left from last year and also made sure to take this one all the way out - it's just to reduce chances of another ivf ectopic - as even without tubes I know people who have had another ectopic when it's attached to the stump left behind.

For anyone else who comes across this thread there was absolutely no indication of ectopic this time - ectopics usually come with spotting and slow rising hcg - mine was doubling every 28-38 hours - other than the pain I had yesterday morning there was no other sign - it began to rupture last night before I went into surgery so happened very quickly - 12 hours from when I first got symptoms

You could still have good News this week with your pregnancy? Especially if the spotting has stopped? I tried to remember what the sac size was for you - I think it was over a Cm but I was a couple of days ahead of you so 🤞 yours is still growing as it should

I'm thinking Tel Aviv in Israel as been there before and loved it! Definitely get a cat! My cats are still and will always be my babies!

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted

I had no idea you could have an ectopic in the stump of a removed tube - seriously, what is wrong with the universe?! 😩

I am trying to be hopeful for my scan. Looking online, everything seems to say that 9.6mm is fine for 5 weeks and 2 days! It’s so confusing 😞 I think the heart rate thing is bothering me more than it should - just because it was the only sign of my previous mc. But apparently it can even out around 6 weeks so I do not fucking know 😞

Oooooo that sounds nice!! I’d have had lots of cats long before all this if it was down to me! 😂 id like a big old rescue cat who just wants somewhere warm to have a cuddle and a nap (bit like me really)

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted So good to hear from you! I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through this again it’s just shit!! You are an inspiration though to keep going! I’m glad they had a tidy up while they were in there!

They can’t get me in for a scan any sooner so am more upset that I have to continue the drugs for another few days even though I know it’s going to be bad news I just want it over with now think I’m going to take the rest of the summer off to enjoy my up coming holidays and then start again hopefully in September with another fet!

Have you got some in the freezer @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted ?

I hope you are taking it easy xx

The waiting is the worst bit. You just want it over so you can start the move on and look ahead?

I have to say that Create have been amazing - it was them that called the ambulance when they saw the heartbeat and the nurses came and just gave me the biggest hugs. Dr Datta gave me his personal mobile and also rang today - He said on a positive note the baby was measuring exactly what it should have been and had a heartbeat so there was nothing wrong with it just in the wrong place so no reason to suggest I can't get pregnant again. He said we could look at doing another round in a couple of months. I think I'll probably take 3 months off and look at September time too - maybe we'll end up being cycle buddies again!

The two we had transferred were the last 2 from our first cycle (we had to do a freeze all due to OHSS so had 3 frozen) - I wanted to do a double transfer to use up this batch as my egg quality wasn't great from that first round and I've been working hard the last 3 months to hopefully increase it. Also the eggs from this transfer were collected exactly a year to the day I had my ectopic last year and maybe it was always going to be a bad omen?

How many did you get from your egg collection and still have frozen?

At least doing short protocol with Create means at least the process is quick once it starts x

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted Yeah exactly!
Oh wow that sounds amazing and that dr d rang you aswell! Good to know that there was nothing wrong with the baby!
I have to say it sounds like they were good with my dh this morning when he went to collect my extra meds as he had a conversation with Sam to say we knew it was heading in the wrong direction because of the test and I thought it was really nice she asked him how he was feeling I think o sometimes forget that it must be hard for him too! Awww hopefully so! Are you going to plan anything nice for your time off? How long will it take you to recover?
Oh wow I had to do a freeze all cycle aswell due to high risk of ohss too! I had 5 Frosties from 16 egg collected! So have 4 left all of which are good quality aswell! X

They are very good about involving the men as they do get overlooked in the whole process!

That's good you've got so many left in the freezer! I think we ended up with 2x 3AB and 1x 5BC blastocysts

I changed to Proceive Max supplements and coq10 after my egg collection and not getting a great result from it and then I got pregnant naturally but miscarried about 6 weeks later but that's the first BFP I had had in over a year so I think it is helping with the quality so will go back on them in preparation for another collection. I also started fertility acupuncture after egg collection and the two times I had it I got pregnant so will do that again when I go for ICSI

Recovery wise probably 6 weeks for the wounds to heal - last time I got my period within a couple of days of surgery so am hoping the same will happen this time so at least I have a timeframe to work to - it's waiting for periods to come back after miscarriage /ectopic that frustrates me as you know you can plan anything until that's back in a routine

If your local in the area Michael Gorman fertility acupuncture is award winning and they are based in Solihull

Last year I was signed off work for six weeks after my op but went back after 2 - this time I think I'll probably work from home next week and then go back to work as I need to keep busy and keep my mind off the obvious

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted Just had a look at the proceive max it’s quite expensive isn’t it ive jist been taking pregnacare maybe have to mix it up next time! Yes I did think about acupuncture for next time if this didn’t work I’m about 50 mins from the clinic so not ideal for me but will do some research in to it thanks! Yes am not looking forward to stopping the drugs and how bad the bleeding is going to be any idea? As I’m going away on Friday am conscious it might happen while I’m away so am trying to prepare myself!

Oh wow you really are hardcore working from home and then going in the week after but I understand I was upset this am but once I got to work and carried on as normal it was a lot easier!

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF
It is expensive but I tend to stock up when Boots has a double points day and Holland and Barratt often have 25% off

2 previous miscarriages have been the 5/6 week mark and actually the bleeding wasn't so bad - I don't get heavy periods normally and so would say the bleeding was heavy for me for one day but not unmanageable with a few more cramps than normal - I carried on largely as normal through them aside from the obviously emotional impact of it. I always hate it when ignorant people talk about a miscarriage being "just like a heavy period" - maybe it is physically but it bloody isn't from an emotional point of view

I've found it's when hcg has gotten into the 1000s that the miscarrying is worse - from what I remember with my last ectopic I passed the deciduous caste in one go last time which wasn't pleasant - I think because my hcg went from 5000+ to 0 so quickly due to surgery it triggers something in the body to try and get back to normal quickly so expecting something similar with this one

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted Will keep an eye out and maybe get some then see how it goes I guess anything is worth a go!

Ahh ok I do get quite heave periods so I guess it might be slightly heavier still and I also suffer with cramps quite bad so will stock up on meds! I think for me as this is the first time this has happened to me I’m not sure what to expect either emotionally or physically I’m kind of just a bit numb at the moment so I guess the reality will hit me when it happens if that makes sense. We are trying to think of the positives it’s the first ever positive test we’ve had in trying on and off for 5 years and we were lucky to get that first go! Thankyou for sharing though I know it must be tough right now x

It's the unknown which is the worst and scariest as you don't know how bad it will

  • it's generally when it's over that it hits me hardest and I've taken some time to Cry and grieve for what could have been. Don't let anyone put a time limit on when you "should" feel better or diminish what you're going through.

But definitely be positive - you've got great quality embryos in storage and so you've got a few more shots at it and you've got great chances of one of them being successful. I've found knowing that we've still got a Chance is what gets me through - it was planning when we could next try naturally again (not anymore 😢) but now it will be planning next cycle of ivf and hopefully transfers and having something to plan and focus on has got me through (I'm one of life's planners!)

Awww I’m sorry you can’t try naturally now can o ask why you need Icsi is i assume mfi? That’s our problem never had a sniff of a positive naturally as DH no progressive sperm he has a lot jist none that swim!

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF
It was a combination of a few things which led to ICSI really - recurrent miscarriages firstly (NHS are useless - they aren't proactive in early pregnancy and we knew private clinics would give us progesterone and clexane and steroids to help support pregnancies in the first couple of weeks) and then me losing my left tube last year obviously reduced my fertility (doctors say losing a tube doesn't reduce it by much but it really does) having had regular pregnancies but losing them before then after my ectopic we just didn't fall pregnant again. DH sperm came back largely ok but with 2% morphology rather than 4% so clinic recommended ICSI as they get better fertilisation rates with that. I'm 36 now and didn't want to wait to keep trying naturally so wanted to give it one last go with IVF and set this year aside for that - our lives have revolved around fertility for so long that at some point we need to move on and just start living again rather than thinking about ovulation and the 2WW. We originally said 3 cycles would be our maximum and had a fund of £20k set aside for it but everything is a bit more expensive than expected so we ll definitely get one more full round and then have to save a bit/credit card the last one. We are very very lucky to have one miracle DC so not eligible on NHS

Hiya! How are you feeling darling? I hope you’re recovering well and being properly spoiled rotten!

We had a scan this morning and saw baby measuring right with a strong heartbeat glittering away ❤️ So we are very relieved and it seems the brown spotting wasn’t a sign that something was happening at that moment. Fingers crossed though, it’s still early days
