February / March 2019 IVF / ICSI

Hi all, starting a new thread for those of us who are starting IVF treatment in February.

This will be my second round of ICSI, I start buserelin injections on 17th February. We have MFI (low sperm count) and after our first cycle ended in a chemical pregnancy, I demanded a laparoscopy because I have always had painful periods. The lap discovered I have mild endometriosis and mild adenomyosis but the surgeon said it was mild enough to not affect my fertility.

I am continuing with the NHS, doing a second fresh cycle. We have 3 frozen embryos from the first round as backup if this one doesn't work...

Would be good to have some cycle buddies to share support over the next couple of months...

@AnnaSteen please don't try and jump ahead! Honestly it can change so much. This sounds just like me. I was on 150 Gonal f with about 15 follicles to start with. After a week nothing had happened at all. They upped me to 200 but I was too late in starting by then and only managed a few. In the end I got 4 eggs and 1 made it to blast. However, my second round was completely different! I had a discussion with the consultant after round 1 and he said we thought you would do ok but there's no rhyme or reason to it. For round two I was upped to 250 and I had 28 follicles at my base line scan. 250 was the magic number! And I was steady but collected 27 eggs, 15 of which made it to day 5. My consultant just drummed it into me that every round is different and this is no indication anything is wrong. They were just too cautious.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Hopefully I will be able to go ahead with egg collection if they grow a bit more over the next few days. If not then hopefully a increased dose will help. Wishing you lots of luck with your journey x

Ladies, just got my HCG results. It's 781! I have to repeat beta in Wednesday. I'm absolutely gobsmacked! With my DD I only had 100! I don't even know what to think! Wow!

sweetsaltypopcorn · 25/03/2019 18:54

Fab news @Russkispy Smile
I have my early scan tomorrow afternoon. I'm so nervous. Sad

Twiglet2353 · 25/03/2019 20:42

Wow @Russkispy that's an amazing number!!

Good luck tomorrow @sweetsaltypopcorn

Thund4rcat · 26/03/2019 12:29

Just had my egg collection. They got 7 eggs which I am satisfied with despite it being less than last cycle when I had 11.

I had general anaesthetic and was totally asleep for the whole thing. So much better than the last time which I was awake for and was very painful during the procedure.

When I came around I was in a lot of pain so they gave me extra codeine and once that kicked in I was OK, but then I was sick when I got home. Now in bed with hot water bottle. Feel OK just a bit achey like mild period pain.

Good luck over the next few days @Thund4rcat

Any news about the mri @AliceAbsolum ?

AliceAbsolum · 26/03/2019 15:33

@Thund4rcat Good to hear your feeling a bit better now. 7 is a good number, apparently the average is 8. I don't know why anyone would be awake?! My clinic do it under deep sedation where you are totally asleep.

I rang the clinic today and they said they can't give me any information over the phone, the consultant is away until next week, but "I can tell you it's not cancer". So yay for not having cancer I guess.

sweetsaltypopcorn · 26/03/2019 15:39

Baby has a strong heartbeat! I cried!
Is only measuring 6+2 though when I'm actually 6+6 (IVF) so I have to go back for another scan next week. Cue a week's worth of worrying and sleepless nights!

Twiglet2353 · 26/03/2019 15:53

Fantastic news @AliceAbsolum!! Phew at least that bombshell is out the way, although always frustrating to have wait after wait after wait.

@sweetsaltypopcorn Yey a little heartbeat! Sending you all the luck and best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy

Thund4rcat · 26/03/2019 16:54

@aliceabsolum great news you don't have cancer!

So last time my clinic did not even employ an anaesthetist so it was not an option. NHS underfunding I guess. Still same clinic but now they have managed to hire one.

My friend went private and was partially conscious and in agony during EC too, so clearly some private clinics don't do proper sedation either.

Yay for full sedation!

Just had my update... 4 fertilised, aiming for 5 day transfer (Sunday). Could be Friday if they don't do so well.

Thund4rcat · 27/03/2019 10:07

@AnnaSteen how are your follicles getting on? Have you had another scan?

@MrsC18 how are you dealing with the start of your 2ww?

AnnaSteen · 27/03/2019 12:10

Hi, I just had another scan. Apparently it’s 50/50 whether they cancel or go ahead with egg collection and they’ll ring me this afternoon. So feeling pretty deflated. Given we were told everything my side was good we hadn’t even considered not getting as far as egg collection. That’s great news on 4 fertilized! Hope they keep on growing for you!

Thund4rcat · 27/03/2019 13:09

@AnnaSteen oh how frustrating for you! Hope you are able to continue one way or another, even if it is a new cycle with different meds.

MrsC18 · 27/03/2019 13:31

@Thund4rcat fingers crossed your embryos are good ones.

TWW is fine, mild cramping but I always get that until day 4, just keeping busy with work so I'm distracted as I don't want to be consumed by negativity. I know I'm lucky to get something to transfer and a poor chance is better than no chance after all

Russkispy · 27/03/2019 16:06

@Thund4rcat , hope they get going till the blast! Everything crossed!
@MrsC18 , go everything crossed for you!
Just got my second HCG bloods since Monday. Massive rise! HCG is 2241! Twins? I'm freaking out! Just asked my clinic, and she said maybe! Omg! 😱😱😅

AnnaSteen · 27/03/2019 16:31

Just got the call - they decided to go ahead with egg collection! Hopes are not high but glad we are in with a chance - would like to see what the response is in case I react at this level for future rounds so happy to get the chance to try egg retrieval and see how we get on! On way to acupuncture now! My acupuncturist said two days before collection and two days after transfer if we get that far.

Russkispy · 27/03/2019 16:43

@AnnaSteen fingers crossed for you!

AnnaSteen · 27/03/2019 17:45

Thanks @russkipsy and congrats on your wonderful news!

@thund4rkat cheers for the good wishes and hope your embryos are keeping goijgcto day 5!

Russkispy · 27/03/2019 19:20

Thank you ladies! We already have a DD of 21 months. I'm absolutely pooping myself but will deal with it if/when it comes to it. My clinic told me to have a scan on 17/04 and it's my birthday! So I'll shift the scan to the day after as got visitors then. Very anxious waiting time till then to find out if it's a singleton or indeed twins.

AliceAbsolum · 27/03/2019 21:42

Bit of good news : massive cyst has magically disappeared! So I reckon the pain and bleeding was it resolving. Yay. Getting all the meds and instructions tomorrow, so hopefully will start next cycle. Hopefully! I'm learning to take nothing for granted.
What will take up 3 hours tomorrow?!

@Russkispy Twins was exactly what I was going to say, he he, but I thought no I'll not say anything. Good luck!

Russkispy · 27/03/2019 21:48

@AliceAbsolum good news! What a relief!
As for twins, haha just have to wait and see! 😱😱😂😂

AliceAbsolum · 28/03/2019 17:20

Argh I injected myself to practice and it was so weird! How do you guys remind yourself to take the meds?
The nurse was really negative about our chances. She said they were expecting to hopefully get 2 eggs. I just thought what is the actual point of all of this then? I wish we had gone abroad years ago.
Oh well. All good to go for 3 weeks time as long as AF isn't early.
